-- I do not agree that "Borderline" is better than "Patience", but one way it has proven itself to be superior is by advancing into the next round of RoTo.

DYSFUNCTIONAL sounds like dysfunctional rock which sounds more like Pop  :kii: , but  I like the groovy Bruno Mars vibe.  I'm still Gotta go full throttle for Kaiser Chiefs. More groovy vibes but with my type of guitar vibes.

Jay Som - Superbike (peacebone, #2) vs. Vampire Weekend - This Life (Daryl, #7)
I like the idea of riding a superbike. I like the guitar hooks and female vocals even more. "This Life" is a decent little "diddy", but not one I can take seriously.

Twin XL - Good (bangwave, #2) vs. PUP - Free at Last (willapted33, #7)
I already gave a good review to "Good". It's pumpy, jumpy and fun. "Free At Last" is not bad musically, but vocally he sounds like he is being eaten by a shark. Just like the album sleeve suggests.

Bracket offered a surprisingly good song here, but no way I go against the guitar fire of "When I'm Gone". Also I kinda forget I had submitted it, but it also makes perfect sense I did..

These guys are releasing a bunch of songs at one time. This one is also great. Love the synth hook throughout the song that becomes more amplified by the backing of the guitars.  "That World" was pretty much what I expected. A Science fiction movie theme song. Not bad for Star Trek part 15.

Got some cool Cranberries vibes here. Good song. "Incapable" was like Jazz Disco. It wasn't bad, I just prefer to rank Disco Jams with Disco James

Did you each submit one song from this album? Anyway, out of the ones I previewed here, this one is surely my favorite so far. "When I Dream"  has elements I like, but I'm going with "Waste" ,so I can say I voted at least one time for them. Support your local PULSE musicians.

man some of these match ups are tuff as nails. Make is harder to be fair, especially when a song like "Choke" is already etched as being one of my favorite Alt rock songs of 2019. I'm choosing "Chain Of Being" because those fast bass lines pull me in like magnets.

Dysfunctional was kinda cool, sounded equal parts Nevermind, new Tame Impala, and Persona with an added layer of smooth soul. I question how much of a rock song it is, but it was enjoyable. I liked the Kaiser Chiefs song more than I had expected, never been a huge fan of theirs. Sounds like its straight from 2008, but not in a bad way I don't guess.

Superbike was nice, I liked the guitar riff, but I've already forgotten everything about it. I have never cared much for Vampire Weekend as it is, but this is easily their most obnoxious single.

Never cared much for Good, sounds like discount Feel It Still with an annoying baby voice in the chorus. Pup is another band my bf likes a lot but I just can't get into. They seem up my alley, I just don't like the way the guy sings. This is one of their better songs though.

I like When I'm Gone like way more than I expect myself to. Normally this brand of Active rock which has been out of style for 25 years doesn't do much for me, but this one just works? Maybe it's just a more novel sound in the current Active landscape, idk. Bracket song was okay, sounds like a leftover from the alt 1993 rankdown.

I could've sworn we've had this Foals song in a rock tournament before, but maybe I'm thinking of Wintertime Madness/any number of Foals songs that have been here already. I like it though. Tim Hecker song was nice, sounds like something from the Journey soundtrack which I do love. Again, kinda questioning the rock cred, but I guess there isn't an ambient tournament to submit Tim Hecker in, so whatever!

This is the best Skyward Pines song so far, good guitar performance towards the end and I like the energy. San Cisco song was listenable.

- KAYTRANADA is a solid producer. "DYSFUNCTIONAL" was pretty good. Cool production as usual coming from KAYTRANADA. Kaiser Chiefs have completely altered their sound over the years, and I think this was a good change this go round. Their last album felt forced, but this feels more organic. "Record Collection" is super catchy and addictive. 

Jay Som - Superbike (peacebone, #2) vs. Vampire Weekend - This Life (Daryl, #7)
- "Superbike" was chill. It reminds me of another artist / song, but I can't seem to put my finger on it. "This Life" is super Hawaiian sounding. It feels weird to say that I've liked two Vampire Weekend songs this year, but here we are. TIL that "This Life" interpolates an ILoveMakonnen song. I think I like "This Life" more, but I'll go with the underdog vote.

- "Good" is fun. I don't like his voice that much, but the production is nice and it's pretty catchy. Though, I've always thought there was something kinda missing in the song. The song itself just doesn't really have that oomph to it. "Free at Last" was kinda generic punk sounding, but I will admit I enjoyed it a decent bit.

- If we're gonna go with AC/DC ripoffs, I'll gladly go with Goodbye June. John Dirty Honey's vocals are super annoying and whiny. He's okay on some of the chorus, but that's about it. The instrumentation is nice, but it's been done time and time again. "Canned from the Food Drive" was generic, but his vocals weren't annoying so that's a plus. I didn't really care for either song here.

- "White Onions" is dope. One of my favorites off of their new album. "That World" is really good background music. It's got a haunting vibe to it. This one is insanely hard, but f**k it, let's go with the left field pick.

- "Man Who Wasn't There" was really good. Great vocals and a nice, chill production on it. I accidentally had the playlist on shuffle when I started this, and "Man Who Wasn't There" came on after "DYSFUNCTIONAL", and I was real excited to get to this song when it came time. It delivered. "Incapable" kinda reminded me of Robyn actually. It was nice, but it didn't do all that much for me.

Skyward Pines - Waste (Lordeftones, #2) vs. San Cisco - When I Dream (Beno, #7)
- "Waste" is good. I want to say this is the last of the three songs I've heard from Skyward Pines? I have heard the other two in my playlist randomly (not through RoTo), but I was missing the third – which I think is this. This is solid. Not as great as "A Poem" but still good. I love "Hey Did I Do You Wrong?" from San Cisco – I sing it to myself all the time still. "When I Dream" was nice. They kinda remind me of The Mowgli's if you took out all the gang vocals. Kind of similar vibes. This one was hard, but I'll lean towards "Waste" here.

- "Choke" is bleh. I haven't really been high on it the entire time its been charting. "Chain of Being" was solid. It had a nice driving production to it.

KAYTRANADA & VanJess - DYSFUNCTIONAL (lyhom, #2) vs. Kaiser Chiefs - Record Collection (Local Native, #7) (I mean, I think I've established with my own submission this time that I'm not entirely against the idea of submitting songs that aren't "rock" by definition, and I dug the tight beat in "DYSFUNCTIONAL"; "Record Collection" kind of both sounds like Kaiser Chiefs and something much more of its time, like it's their take on the modern sound...it's fine, but I expected more)

Jay Som - Superbike (peacebone, #2) vs. Vampire Weekend - This Life (Daryl, #7) ("Superbike" might be one of my favorite songs in the entire tournament...and I prefer "Harmony Hall" to "This Life" anyway)

Twin XL - Good (bangwave, #2) vs. PUP - Free at Last (willapted33, #7) ("Good" sounds a bit like a mix of Portugal. The Man and "HandClap"-era Fitz and the Tantrums...which isn't exactly the best comparison, but I suppose that "Good" has its charms; "Free at Last" really makes me want to check out the PUP album more, and I was already interested in listening to it before)

Dirty Honey - When I'm Gone (dr.indie, #2) vs. Bracket - Canned from the Food Drive (American Idiot, #7) (well..."When I'm Gone" is definitely a Doc pick, alright; "Canned from the Food Drive", in comparison, isn't great, but it's good enough)

Foals - White Onions (MoD, #2) vs. Tim Hecker - That World (shazam, #7) (every song I've heard from this Foals album suggests an album that isn't mind-blowing, but completely and totally solid, and "White Onions" is no exception; I appreciate that we are increasingly less likely to shy away from long songs in RoTos these days, it definitely gives us a little more variety...and "That World" feels like the kind of song that I can just put on in the background and immerse myself in...tough matchup, this)
