www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6671228/luke-bryan-kill-the-lights-billboard-200-second-weekLuke Bryan's 'Kill the Lights' Spends Second Week at No. 1 on Billboard 200By Keith Caulfield | August 23, 2015 Luke Bryan scores a second week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with his Kill the Lights album. The set shifted another 99,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Aug. 20, according to Nielsen Music. A week ago it debuted atop the list with 345,000 units. The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Sept. 5-dated chart (where Bryan is No. 1) will be posted in full to Billboard’s Web sites on Tuesday, Aug. 25. Kill the Lights is the first country album to spend more than one week at No. 1 in two years. The feat last occurred with Bryan’s own previous album, Crash My Party, which spent its second and final frame at No. 1 on the chart dated Sept. 7, 2013. In two weeks, Kill the Lights has sold 403,000 in pure album sales. Behind Bryan is a surging Ed Sheeran, who sees his X album jump 6-2 with 97,000 units (up 196 percent). It rallies thanks to publicity generated by his NBC TV concert special Ed Sheeran -- Live at Wembley Stadium (which aired Aug. 18) and sales spurred by the album’s temporary 99-cent discount pricing in the Google Play store. The set’s album sales rose to 80,000 for the week (up 378 percent). Of that figure, download sales equated to 72,000 (up 607 percent). This is the album’s highest rank on the Billboard 200 since the Feb. 14-dated chart, when it also placed at No. 2. The album debuted atop the list 61 weeks ago and has never left the Top 30. It has been in the Top 10 for the past 14 consecutive weeks. Dr. Dre’s Compton slips to No. 3 with 51,000 units (down 83 percent) in its second week. Dre can also be found at No. 4 as a member of N.W.A, as the group zooms 30-4 with Straight Outta Compton (44,000 units; up 254 percent). The latter album reaches a new chart high and benefits from the opening weekend (Aug. 14-16) of the theatrical film of the same name. N.W.A was last this high on the chart 23 years ago, when their No. 1 album Efil4zaggin was in the top three (charts dated June 15-29, 1991). The Now 55 compilation descends 3-5 with 40,000 units (down 254 percent). Singer Melanie Martinez (a former contestant on The Voice) starts at No. 6 with her debut full-length album Cry Baby (40,000 units). She had previously visited the Heatseekers Albums chart with her 2014 Dollhouse EP, which reached No. 4 on that developing artists tally. Cry Baby also bows at No. 1 on the Alternative Albums chart. Taylor Swift’s 1989 dips 5-7 with 32,000 units (down 4 percent). The album has spent all 43 of its chart weeks in the Top 10. Rock band Bullet for My Valentine launches at No. 8 with its latest album, Venom, moving 28,000 units (of which 26,000 are pure album sales). It’s the second Top 10 album from the band, which also hit the region with 2009’s Scream Aim Fire (No. 4) and 2010’s Fever (No. 3). Venom also starts at No. 1 on the Hard Rock Albums charts. The Nos. 8-10 albums on the Billboard 200 chart are only separated by a few hundred units, but when their sums for the week are rounded to the nearest thousand, they all end up totaling 28,000. That said, closing out the Top 10 are Future’s DS2 (7-9 with nearly 28,000 units; down 11 percent) and Sam Hunt’s Montevallo (9-10 with almost 28,000 as well; up 1 percent).

Behind Handwritten, MDNA and Born This Way Doesn't that "record" only apply to albums that debuted at #1? I'm sure there are plenty of albums that debuted lower on the chart and then lost more than 90% in their second weeks.

I'm aware that it didn't #1, but it debuted with sales that would have gotten it there most other weeks and it can be compared to other albums that sold a lot in their first week and then had a very large decline.

^Hopefully it's top 10 on Album Sales, which would be another one on his list of top-10-selling albums. And- there could be a revision to come.

Hmmm, didn't know that 1991 was 23 years ago. Seriously....and you'd think especially after the debacle last week. Can they not just get an intern or the janitor to proofread and catch this simple, simple mistake?

That wasn't really a bad mistake... I do those miscalculations all the time myself.

Dead Letter Circus, Aesthesis (The End) 480 sold The progressive Aussies release their third album, following up The Catalyst Fire. Notable Sales:Breaking Benjamin, Dark Before Dawn (Hollywood) #32, 6,700 sold This gets a tiny boost of 2%, no doubt thanks to their current tour. Kid Rock, First Kiss (Warner Bros.) #39, 5,525 sold This only moved one spot from last week. Big whoop. Lamb of God, VII: Sturm Und Drang (Epic) #57, 4,375 sold A 29% drop, but this is still doing well with just under 70,000 sold. Cattle Decapitation, The Anthropocene Extinction (Metal Blade) #72, 3,450 sold This only dropped 41% in week two, which is pretty good. Fear Factory, Genexus (Nuclear Blast) #78, 3,150 sold This, on the other hand, took a typical second week drop of 71%. Faith No More, Sol Invictus (Ipecac) #95, 2,425 sold This dropped off for a few weeks, but a giant boost blasted this back into the top 100. Saint Asonia, Saint Asonia (RCA) #107, 2,200 sold A 31% drop, though the band’s current tour may pick up some numbers. Slipknot, .5: The Gray Chapter (Roadrunner) #137, 1,750 sold This still manages to sell consistently. Halestorm, Into the Wild Life (Atlantic) #159, 1,525 sold A tiny 2% drop. Foo Fighters, Sonic Highways (RCA) #169, 1,435 sold Another boost, this time of 31%. Teenage Time Killers, Greatest Hits Vol. 1 (Rise) 520 sold I’M EIGHTEEN…percent drop. That’s a teenager joke. Red Sun Rising, Polyester Zeal (Razor & Tie) 480 sold A second week drop of 74%. Kataklysm, Of Gods & Ghosts (Nuclear Blast) 320 sold A 44% drop. Nekrogoblikon, Heavy Meta (Mystery Box) 300 sold Looks like the band’s current tour has won them new fans. Krisiun, Forged In Fury (Century Media) 290 sold A second week 42% drop. Lindemann, Skills In Pills (Warner Bros.) 290 sold In a week or two this will hit the 10,000 mark. Black Fast, Terms of Surrender (eOne) 270 sold This surrenders a 35% drop. From Ashes To New, Downfall (Bette Noise) 240 sold This gets boosted back up just in time for the band’s upcoming tour. Amaranthe, Massive Addictive (Spinefarm) 240 sold This continues to persevere with a 14% boost. Refused, Freedom (Epitaph) 200 sold A 14% drop. We Are Harlot, We Are Harlot (Roadrunner) 200 sold This might drop off soon, the band’s tour next month could bring it back up.

www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6677623/elvis-presley-53rd-top-40-album-billboard-200-chartElvis Presley Nets 53rd Top 40 Album on Billboard 200 ChartBy Keith Caulfield | August 26, 2015 Presley moves closer to Frank Sinatra's record total. Plus, six decades after his debut, the King of Rock & Roll crowns the Top Rock Albums chart. Elvis Presley earns his 53rd top 40 album on the Billboard 200 chart (dated Sept. 5) as the new compilation Elvis Forever debuts at No. 11. The set, sold exclusively through the U.S. Postal Service, is Presley's highest-charting album since 2003, when Elvis: 3nd to None peaked at No. 3. The debuting album was released in conjunction with the promotion of Presley's new commemorative stamp. The new Presley set is sold only as a CD through the Postal Service's website and brick-and-mortar locations, and bows with 27,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Aug. 20, according to Nielsen Music. The entirety of that sum is generated by pure album sales. Among all acts with the most top 40-charting albums, Presley remains in second place behind Frank Sinatra, with 57. The latter collected his most recent visit to the region with this year's Ultimate Sinatra compilation, which debuted and peaked at No. 32 in May. (Presley died in 1977; Sinatra, in 1998.) With Elvis Forever, the King of Rock & Roll also fittingly debuts at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Rock Albums chart. It's his first No. 1 on the list (which originated in 2006). Elvis Forever also makes a strong debut on the Top Country Albums chart at No. 2, marking Presley's highest-charting set since 2002's Elv1s: 30 #1 Hits, which spent three weeks atop the list. Presley has visited the top two rungs of Top Country Albums 11 times; seven of those sets hit No. 1.

www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6678605/billboard-200-chart-moves-dr-dres-the-chronic-returns-to-top-40Billboard 200 Chart Moves: Dr. Dre's 'The Chronic' Returns To Top 40 After 21 YearsBy Keith Caulfield | August 28, 2015 9:32 PM EDT Now, let’s take a closer look at some of the action on the Sept. 5 chart: -- Dr. Dre, The Chronic - No. 38 -- Publicity generated by the release of the N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton spurs lots of chart action for the rap group and its various members. A total of 10 N.W.A-related albums (those by the group or its members) dot the tally. One of those is Dr. Dre’s debut solo album The Chronic, which vaults 75-38 (11,000 units; up 47 percent). It’s the set’s first visit to the top 40 in almost 22 years: it was last in the region on the Oct. 30, 1993-dated chart. The Chronic peaked at No. 3 for six nonconsecutive weeks that year, and spun off three top 40 hit singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart: “Nuthin’ But a ‘G’ Thang” (peaking at No. 2), “Dre Day” (No. 8) and “Let Me Ride” (No. 34). -- Soundtrack, True Detective: Music From the HBO Series - No. 106 -- HBO’s hit show earns its first soundtrack, as this new set -- which blends music heard in both seasons of the drama series -- debuts with nearly 6,000 units. It also starts at No. 3 on the Soundtracks chart. -- New Politics, Vikings - No. 129 -- Rock band New Politics charts a new course -- with a new label -- as the group arrives at No. 129 on the Billboard 200 (5,000 units) and No. 1 on Heatseekers Albums with Vikings. Released through DCD2/Warner Bros. Records, it’s the act’s first album after two efforts for RCA Records. The new release starts with 5,000 pure albums sold in the week ending Aug. 20, according to Nielsen Music, and also launches at No. 16 on Top Rock Albums. Vikings’ first single, “Everywhere I Go (Kings and Queens)” peaked at No. 19 on Alternative in Dec. 2014. It was followed by “West End Kids,” which climbed to No. 25. -- Madonna, The Immaculate Collection - No. 187 -- The diva’s first greatest hits album returns to the list (4,000 units; up 11 percent) for the first time since February of 2014. The set peaked at No. 2 for two weeks in early 1991 (behind Vanilla Ice’s To the Extreme). The Immaculate Collection is one of Madonna's six No. 2-peaking albums, making her one of the handful of acts with as many runner-up sets. Alongside her are the Beatles, Tim McGraw (with seven!), the Rolling Stones, Frank Sinatra and Rod Stewart. All of those artists, however, have also earned multiple No. 1 albums in addition to their many No. 2-peaking efforts. -- Emily West, All For You -- No. 188 -- Former America’s Got Talent contestant Emily West bows at No. 188 with her debut full-length album All For You (3,000). West competed on the ninth season of the competition TV series in 2014, and finished in second place. The new album -- a pop effort released on SYCO/Portrait/Sony Masterworks -- features covers of The Moody Blues’ “Nights In White Satin” and Sia’s “Chandelier” as well as West-penned songs. All For You also starts at No. 2 on the Heatseekers Albums chart. Before West graced the America’s Got Talent stage, she previously visited Billboard’s charts between 2008 and 2012. While with Capitol Nashville, she scored two Hot Country Songs hits with “Rocks In Your Shoes” (No. 39 in 2008) and “Blue Sky” (featuring Keith Urban, No. 38 in 2010). In 2012, her self-released I Hate You I Love You EP reached No. 7 on Folk Albums.
