Elite 8 results:
Lean On barely defeats Can't Feel My Face 16-14.
Shut Up and Dance easily defeats Bad Blood 19-8.
Where Are U Now defeats Good For You 15-10.
Uptown Funk! just barely defeats Cool for the Summer 15-14.
And just like that, the top 2 overall seeds and the top two #8 seeds of the tournament advance! Before you vote, let's take a look at our 2 showdowns and how each Final 4 candidate got here:
01(01) Lean On (North Champion)
Thanks to the entirety of its run in the top 5 during the summer, this song just edged out WAUN to clinch the #1 overall seed. Last season, it made it past the first round and tied in the field of 32 to "Talking Body." The tie-breaker vote went to TB because I said this would get a higher seed in this tourney. And it sure did. Ironically, this song would face Talking Body again in the field of 32. It beat her 13-6 in the field of 32, it beat "You Know You Like It" 16-9 in the Sweet 16, and it just barely defeated "Can't Feel My Face" 16-14.
08(29) Shut Up and Dance by Walk The Moon (West Champion)
In the Spring Tournament, this nabbed the #1 overall seed thanks mainly to its 5 week reign at the summit. It easily made it to the Final 4, but lost to Tove Lo's "Talking Body." The points it accumulated in its downfall were enough to net it a #8 seed this summer, and it would go on to become one of two songs in tournament history to make two trips to the Final 4. It first went up against Luke Bryan's "Kick the Dust Up" in the first round and easily beat it 19-3. It then faced #1 seed "Beautiful Now" in the second round, and Walk The Moon upsetted Zedd and Jon 10-7. In the Sweet 16, it faced Rachel Platten's "Fight Song" and easily KO'ed it 15-5. To the Elite 8 it went and it faced "Bad Blood" (an Elite 8 song from last spring). It never trailed and won 19-8.
These 2 songs will face off to determine who's the king of the left side of the bracket!
NORTH vs. WEST:
01(01) Lean On
08(29) Shut Up and Dance
01(02) Where Are U Now by Skrillex and Diplo ft. Justin Bieber (East Champion)
Last spring, their slow run to the top 5 gave them enough points to nab a #2 seed (7th overall). In the summer, they spent 6 weeks at #1 and although they stayed in the top 5, it was not enough to get them the #1 overall seed, but still, they got a #1 seed. They made it to the Elite 8 and suffered a heartbreaking loss to "Worth It," who would go on to win the Spring Tournament over Talking Body. Their summer tourney run in the second round would start out with a shock, as they quickly fell behind "Want to Want Me." It looked as though for a sad time, its run would come to another heartbreaking end, but it made a comeback and they would end up in a 10-10 tie with WTWM. The tie-breaking vote went to WAUN and it just barely made it to the Sweet 16. Since that close call, it slayed every round. They defeated "House Party" 15-6 in the Sweet 16 and JB defeated his ex's "Good For You" 15-10 in the Elite 8.
08(30) Uptown Funk! by Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars (South Champion)
Back in the winter of 2015, Uptown Funk! spent 12 weeks at #1, the second biggest reign in JL44 history. It was an overwhelming favorite to win the Winter Tournament and it never failed to lose. It crushed every opponent and it never trailed once, easily winning the Winter Tournament. It still displayed unbelievable firepower in the Spring, even though it was slowly falling. It got the #3 overall seed in the Spring Tournament and made it to the Sweet 16, where it would lose to Bad Blood. The last of its run were tallied up in the Summer Tourney and, knowing its death was near, it had one last chance to make a great run and boy, did it ever. It was ranked at a #8 seed (30th overall) and faced "Bright" in round 1. It easily won 18-4. It would then face "Worth It" in round 2, also the defending champion. In a battle of past champs, "Uptown Funk!" shocked the world when it upsetted "Worth It" 11-9. It then faced "Honey, I'm Good" in the Sweet 16, where it crushed it 22-2. In the Elite 8, it faced "Cool for the Summer," which was highly anticipated to make the Final 4. Both swapped places leading, and in the final hours, the 29th vote was cast in favor of "Uptown Funk!," securing its win by 1 vote. It won 15-14 and became one of 2 songs in tournament history to make the Final 4 twice.
These 2 songs will face off to determine who's the king of the right side of the bracket!
EAST vs. SOUTH:
01(02) Where Are U Now
08(30) Uptown Funk!
You have until midnight on September 5 to vote for the 2 going to the title round. Happy voting!
