www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6685947/the-weeknd-beauty-behind-the-madness-debuts-at-no-1-billboard-200-chartsThe Weeknd's 'Beauty Behind the Madness' Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 200 ChartBy Keith Caulfield | September 06, 2015 The Weeknd rules the Billboard 200 albums chart as the singer's new album, Beauty Behind the Madness, bows at No. 1 with the second-biggest debut of 2015. The album starts with a whopping 412,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Sept. 3, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 326,000 were pure album sales (his best sales week ever). With the arrival, The Weeknd earns the second-largest overall weekly unit total and pure sales week for an album this year, behind only the debut of Drake's If You're Reading This It's Too Late (535,000 units; 495,000 in album sales). The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Sept. 19-dated chart (where The Weeknd is No. 1) will be posted in full to Billboard's Web sites on Wednesday, Sept. 9 (a day later than normal, due to the Labor Day holiday). Beauty Behind the Madness was released through XO/Republic Records on Aug. 28 and is the third consecutive top 10 album for The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye. It follows 2012's Trilogy (it debuted and peaked at No. 4) and 2013's Kiss Land (a No. 2 debut/peak). The new album was led by three hit singles that have all reached the top five of the Billboard Hot 100 chart: "Earned It" (initially from the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack; the song peaked at No. 3), "Can't Feel My Face" (No. 1 for two weeks) and "The Hills" (climbing to a new peak of No. 4 on the Sept. 12-dated chart). Shortly after the release of Beauty Behind the Madness, The Weeknd performed on the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) on Aug. 30 and starred in new TV commercials for Apple Music. Six days before the album hit retail, The Weeknd headlined the Billboard Hot 100 Festival on Aug. 22. An act that will be touring with The Weeknd later this year, Halsey, debuts at No. 2 on the new Billboard 200 chart with her debut full-length album, Badlands. The set, released through Astralwerks Records, opens with 115,000 units (of which 97,000 are pure album sales) and also launches at No. 1 on the Alternative Albums chart. Badlands secures the second-biggest debut of 2015 for a female artist's first full-length album both in units and pure album sales. It stands behind Meghan Trainor's Title, which bowed with 238,000 units and 195,000 in album sales. With Badlands' No. 2 start, it gives the Astralwerks label its highest charting album ever, surpassing its previous high of No. 5 (earned when David Guetta's Nothing But the Beat debuted and peaked at the rank in 2011). Halsey's debut EP, Room 93, reached No. 3 on the Heatseekers Albums chart in 2014 and has 41,000. Badlands' current single, "New Americana," has so far peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks chart and No. 22 on Alternative Songs. Luke Bryan's former No. 1 album, Kill the Lights, dips one rung to No. 3 with 50,000 units (down 25 percent). Taylor Swift's 1989 climbs 7-4 with 44,000 units (up 50 percent) and 24,000 in album sales (up 35 percent). Like The Weeknd, Swift performed on the VMAs and also took home multiple awards, including video of the year (for "Bad Blood"). Swift also benefits from the debut of the music video for 1989's new single "Wildest Dreams." It premiered on the VMAs pre-show. Dr. Dre's Compton descends two spots to No. 5 with 32,000 units (down 47 percent) and Ed Sheeran's X moves 5-6 with just over 28,000 units (down 10 percent). Country duo Maddie & Tae enter at No. 7 with their debut full-length album, Start Here (28,000 units). The pair earlier hit No. 1 on the Country Airplay chart with the album's "Girl In a Country Song" (which was also featured on their self-titled EP). Their current single, "Fly," reached the top 10 on the Country Airplay tally dated Sept. 12 (rising 12-9). Another duo, but of a more alternative flavor, starts at No. 8: Beach House. The pair's new Depression Cherry bows with 27,000 units and gives the act its second top 10 album, following their previous release, 2012's Bloom (No. 7 debut and peak). Singer-songwriter Ben Rector nabs his biggest week ever, as his latest studio effort Brand New debuts at No. 9 with 26,000 units (with 25,000 of that pure album sales). It's his best sales week and first top 10 album. Last week's No. 1 album, Disturbed's Immortalized, falls to No. 10 with just over 26,000 units (down 73 percent) to close out the top 10.

I've updated the first post to include both Country and Hip-hop stats. If you guys want a bunch of the notable sales, I'll add them, but just going through the top 15 already was starting to seem insignificant in BB200 position.

www.metalinsider.net/columns/metal-by-numbers/metal-by-numbers-99-motorhead-work-their-bad-magicMetal By Numbers 9/9: Motörhead work their bad magicPosted by Matt Brown on September 9, 2015 Metal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top metal sellers and debuts of the week. The subject of Lemmy’s health has been a hot topic in metal for a while now. It doesn’t feel it started that long ago, but the saga has been going on over two years now. It may be hard to believe at first, but the fact that we’re again seeing a crop of Motörhead show cancellations again shows history repeating itself. Still, the debut of a new studio album should keep morale high, showing that time may take its toll on touring, but not in writing music that is everything louder than everyone else. In addition to Bad Magic, eight other albums have made their debut. Not nearly as big of a debut list as last week, but a worthy followup nonetheless. And of course, the list of notable sales is longer than ever. Notable Debuts:Motörhead, Bad Magic (UDR) #16, 10,325 sold Motöhead’s 22nd album manages to chart higher than its predecessor. Meytal, Alchemy (Light Drop)#42, 5,825 sold You know Meytal best as that woman who posts kickass drum covers on Youtube. Now she’s released her debut album, which is off to an excellent start. Soilwork, The Ride Majestic (Nuclear Blast) #43, 5,800 sold The band’s tenth album didn’t sell as much as its previous album, but it charted in the top 50. Nile, What Should Not Be Unearthed (Nuclear Blast) #81, 3,475 sold Nile nab their best debut yet with album eight. I See Stars, Phases (Sumerian) #123, 2,150 sold This album features clean, acoustic versions of songs from the band’s discography. Defeater, Abandoned (Epitaph) #199, 1,275 sold The band’s fourth album doesn’t do nearly as well as its predecessor. Kobra and the Lotus, Words of the Prophets (Titan) 390 sold This 5 song EP features covers from Canadian bands like Rush and Triumph. Ahab, The Boats of the “Glen Carrige” (Napalm) 370 sold The funeral doom band’s fourth album is based on a book of the same name. Modern Day Babylon, The Ocean Atlas (Self-Released) 280 sold Get your groove on with this three-piece djent act from the Czech Republic. Notable Sales:Disturbed, Immortalized (Reprise) #9, 23,300 sold This is still in the top 10 after a 75% drop. Breaking Benjamin, Dark Before Dawn (Hollywood) #31, 6,975 sold A 6% drop won’t break the bank (or the Benjamin). Kid Rock, First Kiss (Warner Bros.) #53, 5,250 sold A 5% boost. I’m not KIDding. Ghost, Meliora (Loma Vista) #55, 4,925 sold The band has a solid second week despite an 83% drop. Bullet For My Valentine, Venom (RCA) #70, 3,925 sold A 44% drop without a bullet. Lamb of God, VII: Sturm Und Drang (Epic) #86, 3,250 sold Over 75,000 copies sold. Pop Evil, Up (eOne) #88, 3,125 sold A 78% second week drop. The Sword, High Country (Razor & Tie) #99, 2,750 sold An 80% drop into Low Country, but hey, they’re still in the top 100. Buckcherry, Rock ‘n’ Roll (F-Bomb) #127, 2,125 sold A 66% drop in week two. Guess the “f-bomb” of their label is “fall?” The Devil Wears Prada, Space EP (Rise) #143, 1,800 sold This EP drop 87% in week two, but with their headlining tour announced, has some “space” to continue selling. Slipknot, .5: The Gray Chapter (Roadrunner) #159, 1,625 sold In week 45, this has sold over 350,000 copies. P.O.D., The Awakening (UMe) #165, 1,550 sold A 77% drop in the second week. Butcher Babies, Take It Like A Man (Century Media) #176, 1,450 sold This got cut down by 79%. Fear Factory, Genexus (Nuclear Blast) #186, 1,375 sold Factoring in a 29% drop. Halestorm, Into the Wild Life (Atlantic) #189, 1,350 sold Over 120,000 copies sold in week 20. Foo Fighters, Sonic Highways (RCA) #191, 1,325 sold After a series of boosts, this drops 27%. Saint Asonia, Saint Asonia (RCA) #194, 1,325 sold A 23% drop. Battlecross, Rise To Power (Metal Blade) 960 sold This drops from power by 59%. Myrkur, M (Relapse) 590 sold A 60% drop in week two. Act of Defiance, Birth and the Burial (Metal Blade) 570 sold Can’t defy a 72% drop. Kadavar, Berlin (Nuclear Blast) 420 sold A 61% drop in the second week (gee, that’s somewhere we haven’t seen today). Red Sun Rising, Polyester Zeal (Razor & Tie) 370 sold A 10% drop. From Ashes To New, Downfall (Bette Noise) 340 sold This gains an 18% boost. Lindemann, Skills In Pills (Warner Bros.) 320 sold A tiny 2% boost. Rivers of Nihil, Monarchy (Metal Blade) 320 sold A 73% drop. Pentagram, Curious Volume (Peaceville) 260 sold A curious drop of 55%. Northlane, Node (Rise) 240 sold A 2% boost. Kataklysm, Of Gods & Ghosts (Nuclear Blast) 200 sold A 26% drop kan’t be good. Teenage Time Killers, Greatest Hits Vol. 1 (Rise) 290 sold Time to sell 34 % less than last week.

I wonder if Billboard will introduce a Top Streaming Albums chart any time soon. Would be nice to have that, alongside the existing Top Album Sales chart...

Cole Earns His First Million-Selling Album With '2014 Forest Hills Drive'By Keith Caulfield | September 10, 2015 8:48 PM EDT J. Cole earns his first million-selling album in the U.S., as his chart-topping 2014 Forest Hills Drive has surpassed a million copies sold, according to Nielsen Music. The set’s cumulative sales rose past the threshold in the week ending Sept. 3, as it sold another 6,000 copies, bringing its total to 1.004 million. The album was released in December of 2014 and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, becoming his third consecutive No. 1. It continues to rules has the rapper’s biggest selling set. His previous album Born Sinner (released in 2013) has sold 747,000 while his first set, Cole World: The Sideline Story (released in 2011) has sold 772,000. 2014 Forest Hills Drive has generated five entries on the Hot Rap Songs chart: “Apparently” (peaking at No. 10), “Wet Dreamz” (No. 12), “No Role Modelz” (No. 18), “Fire Squad” (No. 24) and “A Tale of 2 Citiez” (No. 25). www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6693078/jimi-hendrix-46th-charting-album-billboard-200-chart-movesBillboard 200 Chart Moves: Jimi Hendrix Earns 46th Charting Album With New Live SetBy Keith Caulfield | September 10, 2015 Now, let’s take a closer look at some of the action on the Sept. 19 chart: — Tori Kelly, Unbreakable Smile - No. 17 — The 2015 MTV Video Music Awards and its pre-show pump big gains for a variety of acts showcased on the annual broadcast (Aug. 30), including performers Tori Kelly and Nicki Minaj. Kelly’s performance of “Should’ve Been Us” prompts a 114 percent overall unit gain for its parent album, Unbreakable Smile (53-17 on the Billboard 200) with 19,000 units earned in the week ending Sept. 3, according to Nielsen Music. Minaj, who opened the show with a three-song medley (boasting surprise guest Taylor Swift) and won the first award of the night (best hip-hop video for “Anaconda”) jets 45-24 on the Billboard 200 with The Pinkprint (13,000 units; up 35 percent). — Jimi Hendrix Experience, Freedom: Atlanta Pop Festival - No. 63 — Jimi Hendrix scores his 46th entry on the Billboard 200 albums chart as Freedom: Atlanta Pop Festival starts at No. 63. The live set shifted 8,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Sept. 3, according to Nielsen Music (nearly 7,000 were pure album sales). The Experience Hendrix/Legacy Recordings release celebrates the guitar god’s July 4, 1970 concert at the Second Atlanta International Pop Festival, where he played to an estimated 300,000-400,000 people -- the largest audience he ever played to in the U.S. (according to Legacy). An accompanying documentary film about the show, Jimi Hendrix: Electric Church, premiered Sept. 4 on Showtime. (A retail version of the movie will be released on Oct. 30.) Hendrix has been rather prolific on the Billboard 200 in the last few years, thanks to Experience Hendrix’s licensing partnership with Legacy, which began in 2009. Some of the most notable fruits of their relationship include two top 10 albums of previously unreleased studio recordings: Valleys of Neptune (No. 4 debut and peak in 2010) and People, Hell and Angels (No. 2 in 2013). — Iration, Hotting Up - No. 79 — Reggae band Iration starts at No. 79 with its fourth full-length album, Hotting Up. The set, which launches with 7,000 units (about 6,000 from album sales -- its best sales week ever), also gives the act its second No. 1 on the Reggae Albums chart. It follows 2013’s chart-topping Automatic. — Van Morrison, The Essential Van Morrison – No. 101 — Following Sony Music's acquisition of Van Morrison's catalog, the company issued 33 Van Morrison albums on Aug. 28, in addition to a new compilation: The Essential Van Morrison. The set launches at No. 101 with 6,000 units and marks Morrison's 44th chart entry. The new album is the 27th charting effort from Legacy's long-running Essential series, which launched in 2001. — Darius Rucker, Southern Style – No. 117 — Rucker jumps back onto the list (5,000 units; up 80 percent) with the album’s highest rank since the June 6 chart (No. 112) after he performed on Today (Aug. 28). A Sept. 9 performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live may push a gain on the Sept. 23 chart. — Barbra Streisand, Partners – No. 185 — The Aug. 28 re-airing of Streisand's appearance on NBC's The Tonight Show spurs the former No. 1 album's 372 percent unit gain and reentry. With a 24th chart week, the duets set is now the diva's longest-charting album since Higher Ground wrapped a 27-week run in 1998. Partners is also approaching the million-sales mark, as its total sales rise to 955,000.

I think album sales is going to stabilize soon? Streaming is growing exponentially alright, but I think there will come the time where Streaming will reach it's peak and stabilize while album sales will found a range to comfortably settle. I don't really see another form of music consumption coming anytime soon.
