It's available in UK iTunes and has been premiered on radios, not bad, reminds me of Skyfall.

The one serviced to radio is the radio edit (3:47).

It's a Bond song? what do you expected. All Bond main themes are basically variations of the original one, every artist add his/her personal touch, an dif you chose a more classical artist like Sam (or Adele) the theme is going to be neared the original than if you chose Garbage or Madonna, but in the end there are main rules when you write a Bond theme that everybody respects By the way, 15 on itunes (and 1 on UK, of course)

It's a Bond song? what do you expected. :| This, like Adele's (surprise, surprise) Bond song, lacks an explosive crescendo. Sam Smith's is actually the worse offender because it doesn't go anywhere.

I actually like most of the Bond themes. This just plods along.

I prefer "Skyfall" to this. Does this have a radio deal today?

fixed [ Homophobe. if the statement came up as so, i apologize. I'm from a country in which gay isn't legalized, and therefore i didn't realize it was a gay term. I'm terribly sorry :( Re the song, i agree that it's bland.

Not a fan of Bond themes and this also does nothing for me. BUT it's a strong song still, just not for me.

I'm a sucker for orchestras and I like this more than all of his solo singles.

Just heard this on the radio. I wasn't 100% concentrated on it, but from what I did hear, I don't like it. It just doesn't go anywhere. I quite liked Skyfall, but this is so.. nothing special. I expected more. I will see if my opinion changes when I listen properly later

This really sucks. He deserves the hate he's getting on twitter. Just terrible. Bond songs must be a big deal to send this crap to #1 on itunes in the US.

I've yet to hear it but I feel Lana would've been a better fit for the Bond theme.

The number of crap songs that reach number one on itunes is really really long, one more won't make news (i didn't hear the song yet so i don't have an opinion, but i dislike most of Bond themes so i will be surprised if i like this, i love Adele, but i hated Skyfall)

I'll be the dissenting voice and say I like it for what it is, a Bond theme song not a pop song.
As for the Lana suggestion--as much as I like Lana Del Rey that new album of hers has a song that just puts you to sleep called Honeymoon. After listening to that I didn't even want to listen to the rest of her album. She does have a dreamy quality to her voice that might have worked though for a Bond theme. But if you're already complaining that Smith's song isn't perky enough then why would anyone suggest a person who has such a good command of the dirge song.

Gorgeous instrumental... but he is so overrated as a singer IMO. I'm not digging his vocal at all, it sounds like he's struggling.

I love this! This is easily my favorite single he has released to date. It's dark, haunting and it's epic.

I get the feeling that people who don't like this wouldn't like any Bond song (Die Another Day excluded) or any Sam Smith song. So I'm not too worried about the reception.

Eh, I honestly don't even like the instrumental that much after a first listen - "Skyfall" was much more expansive and punctuated (but I'm admittedly a sucker for horns).

I tend to like melodramatic songs like songs by Meat loaf and Roy Orbison so I'm not put off by this at all. I actually like all the little falsettos he's thrown in to it. What will sell it will be how it's incorporated into the movie. Adele's Skyfall went along with a gorgeous opening credit. Before that I really didn't care that much for her song.

Some of the Bond songs in the past like "Goldeneye" and "Tomorrow Never Dies" were regarded better at the time by the public when they came out. Same with the Garbage and Madonna ones. The latter two were significantly different than the other ones. The song will do what its supposed to do within the context of the film. I like songs with big drama (e.g. power ballads) too. Sorry but no. Goldeneye was well received, yes, in Europe, because in the USA it was basically ignored. And Tomorrow never dies was eviscerated when it was released, the election of Sheryl Crow was criticied again and again because, well, she basically has no voice enough to carry the song. Garbage and Madonna (who is by far the most successful Bond song in the last two decades in the USA) made a great work because they catch a classical Bond theme and gave them their personal touch. In terms of success, in the USA only Skyfall was a big success in recent times, which is a more classical aproach to the Bond theme. Like in Writting's on the wall case, Skyfall benefited of being sung by a very popular artist at that moment, which make it carry very good sales (even more thanks to the golden globe and oscar awards). Anyway, being critic of Sam's voice is pointless. Everyone has their own taste but it's obvious that without that voice his career will be very different (in case he has a career at all). It's like hating Whitney's melisma, you can dislike the way she used her voice but denying she has a great voice is ridiculous
