The Weeknd Spends Second Week at No. 1 on Billboard 200 Albums Chart

The Weeknd earns a second week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart as Beauty Behind the Madness continues to reign as the most popular album in the U.S. The set shifted another 145,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Sept. 10, according to Nielsen Music (down 65 percent). A week ago, the album bounded into the top slot with 411,000 units.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Sept. 26-dated chart (where The Weeknd is No. 1) will be posted in full to Billboard’s websites on Tuesday, Sept. 15.

Rock band Five Finger Death Punch charts its third consecutive No. 2 album with the debut of Got Your Six, which enters with 119,000 units. That sum is powered by 114,000 in pure album sales, which makes it the top selling album of the week, and it reigns at No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart. That 114,000 figure is also the group’s best sales week ever, surpassing the 112,000 launch of 2013’s No. 2-peaking The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell: Volume 1.

Got Your Six also enters at No. 1 on the Top Rock Albums and Hard Rock Albums charts — their third straight leader on both lists.

The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind the Madness is No. 2 on the Top Album Sales chart with 77,000 copies sold.

Back on the Billboard 200, rapper Travi$ Scott starts at No. 3 with his debut studio album Rodeo (85,000 units, of which 70,000 are pure album sales). It also starts at No. 1 on the Rap Albums chart, and No. 2 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums (behind The Weeknd).

Veteran rock band Iron Maiden debuts at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 with their new studio effort The Book of Souls (75,000 units). That equals their highest rank ever, first achieved in 2010 with The Final Frontier’s debut and peak at No. 4.

The new album also debuts with 74,000 albums sold, which is the group’s best sales week since Nielsen Music started tracking sales in 1991.

Also notable: The Book of Souls is the sixth straight Iron Maiden studio album to show debut week sales growth. Their steady climb started with 1998’s Virtual XI (10,000 sales debut, up from the 6,000 of 1995’s X Factor) and then continued on with 2000’s Brave New World (38,000), 2003’s Dance of Death (40,000), 2006’s A Matter of Life and Death (56,000), 2010’s The Final Frontier (63,000) and now its new album.

Troye Sivan claims his second straight Top 5 album, as his second EP, Wild, bows at No. 5 (50,000 units; 45,000 from album sales). It follows his debut EP, TRXYE, which debuted and peaked at No. 5 on the Aug. 30, 2014-dated chart (30,000).

Wild’s debut was powered largely by digital sales, with 43,000 of its sales sum coming from downloads. The EP also starts at No. 4 on the Digital Albums chart.

Luke Bryan’s former No. 1 album Kill the Lights slips 3-6 with 45,000 units (down 11 percent) and Taylor Swift’s 1989 dips 4-7 with 43,000 units (down 2 percent). Halsey’s Badlands falls 2-8 with 35,000 (down 69 percent) and Ed Sheeran’s X descends 6-9 with 27,000 (down 6 percent). Future’s DS2 closes out the Top 10, up one rung to No. 10, with 25,000 units (down 4 percent).

All but one of their albums have gone Gold, and that one album has sold over 312k as of December 2014. That's quite consistent.

FFDP's album is the top-selling album of the week, so it can claim its first No. 1 album seller.

This is the fourth time since December that we have dual No. 1 titles, on Top Album Sales and the Billboard 200.

This week, The Weeknd, Travi$ Scott and Future are in the top 10 overall album sales on the Billboard Top 200 chart. Scarface debuts at the #11 spot with Deeply Rooted. K Camp's Only Way Is Up debuts at #20 followed by N.W.A's Straight Outta Compton.

The Weeknd Sees Second Week at #1

The Weeknd's sophomore album, Beauty Behind the Madness, remains at the top spot. This week, it saw 144,471 total units of activity, a 65 percent drop from last week's numbers. The project saw 52,120,836 total streams.

Travi$ Scott's Debut Album Makes Noise

Travi$ Scott's Rodeo debuts at the #3 spot on the chart with 85,158 total units of activity. The project, which has a standard and deluxe version, sold 69,878 albums and saw 12,782,284 streams.

Scarface's Deeply Rooted Barely Misses Top 10

Scarface's Deeply Rooted lands at the #11 spot on the chart with 23,626 in its first week. This is the Houston rapper's first album since 2008's Emeritus. The most recent album features the song "God" with John Legend and saw 1,064,959 streams.

With no major new releases, the Top 10 of the chart remains exactly the same as last week with only two album swapping slots.

Luke Bryan's Kill The Lights holds on at #1 this week with scanned sales surpassing 500k (Gold) and sales for Zac Brown Band's Jekyll+Hyde, making it the best-selling album originally released in the USA in 2015. Sam Hunt's Montevallo is at #2 with 746k scanned to date (and one of only 4 albums to be on the Top 30 of the Billboard 200 all of 2015). Maddie & Tae slide one to #3 with Start Here. The duo has now scanned 31k in two weeks on the charts. Zac Brown Band's Jekyll+Hyde is at #4 with 6k scanned, bringing their sales to nearly 521k while Eric Church's Platinum-certified The Outsiders sits at #6 with another 6.4k buying the record this week.

Top Ten Recap

Sitting at #6 this week is Elvis Presley's latest compilation, Elvis Forever. In one month on the charts the album has scanned over 56k while Kip Moore's Wild Ones is at #7 with 48k scanned in three weeks. Florida Georgia Line's Anything Goes is at #8 with Little Big Town's Pain Killer at #9 (344k scanned to date) while Alan Jackson's latest Angels & Alcohol remains in the Top 10 with nearly 108k scanned to date.

Billboard 200 Chart Moves: Elle King Hits the Top 40, Luke Bryan's Latest Half-Million Seller

Now, let’s take a closer look at some of the action on the Sept. 26 chart:

— Luke Bryan, Kill the Lights - No. 6 — Luke Bryan’s former No. 1 album Kill the Lights has now surpassed 500,000 in total sales, as the set sold another 34,000 copies in the week ending Sept. 10. The album’s cumulative sales now stand at 530,000. Kill the Lights is Bryan’s sixth set to sell more than 500,000 copies. His biggest seller is Crash My Party, with 2.5 million sold.

— Elle King, Love Stuff - No. 37 — Elle King’s Love Stuff hits a new chart high -- and visits the top 40 for the first time -- as the album climbs 42-37 (10,000 units; up 5 percent). The album debuted on the chart dated March 7 at No. 45, and then slipped off the chart after the April 25-dated list. It then returned on the June 20 tally and has (mostly) been on the rise ever since, thanks to the success of its single “Ex’s & Oh’s,” which spends a second week at No. 1 on the Alternative Songs chart. It’s also a top 20 hit on Adult Pop Songs, a top 30 charter on Pop Songs, and a former No. 2 smash on the Adult Alternative Songs chart.

— Alabama Shakes, Sound & Color - No. 85 — A number of rock albums on the chart profit from sale pricing and promotion at digital retailers, including Sound & Color (6,000 units; up 31 percent, rising 149-85) and Evanescence’s Fallen (a reentry at No. 102 with 5,000; up 128 percent). Other notable rock gainers include All Time Low’s Future Hearts (reentering at No. 106 with 5,000; up 137 percent), My Chemical Romance’s The Black Parade (a reentry at No. 123 with 5,000; up 31 percent) and Linkin Park’s Hybrid Theory (a reentry at No. 125 with, again, 5,000 units; up 70 percent). Also helping Alabama Shakes: the band’s frontwoman, Brittany Howard, was a surprise musical guest on the first episode of CBS’ The Late Show With Stephen Colbert (Sept. 8).

— Fidlar, Too - No. 124 — Fidlar's second album, Too, arrives at No. 124 (5,000 units) and also straight in to No. 1 on the Heatseekers Albums chart (4,000 pure albums sold). The rock band’s new 12-song album follows their 2013 self-titled effort, which debuted and peaked at No. 5, and went on to sell 24,000. The new album, which the band will support on tour through late November, performed strongly on vinyl as well, with 35 percent of its debut sales coming from the LP configuration. It debuts at No. 6 on the Vinyl Albums chart.

— Chris Stapleton, Traveller - No. 139 — Stapleton earned three Country Music Association Award (CMA Awards) nominations on Sept. 9, including album of the year (for Traveller), which likely push the set’s 47 percent unit gain and reentry at No. 139 (rising to 4,000 for the week).

— Daya, Daya (EP) – No. 161 — Sixteen-year-old pop singer Daya bows at No. 161 with her self-titled debut EP, shifting 4,000 units. The indie-released set, issued through the Artbeatz label, is led by the single “Hide Away.” The cut rises 40-38 on the Pop Songs airplay chart, with a 19 percent rise in spins at the format. On the Heatseekers Albums chart, the Daya EP starts at No. 20.
