Artist: Eric Paslay Single: "High Class" Writers: Eric Paslay, Corey Crowder, Jesse Frasure Label: EMI Nashville Add Date: October 5th, 2015 Release Date: September 18th, 2015 Credit goes to @daydrinker here as he first pointed this out. :) You've been on fire here lately; keep it up! Eric has been saying in quite a few interviews with radio stations (including his chat at WE Fest) that his lead single will be released to radio this Fall and expect a new album by 2016. This is definitely his new single.

I loved almost every song on his first CD. A little nervous seeing Jesse Frasure with writing credits, but hoping that Eric stays true to his personality.

Eric is a great example of how you can do country-pop right (plus there was the traditional "She Don't Love You") His debut album was fantastic IMO. I'm hoping this will be good!

Praying that this is at least somewhat good since country radio feels the need to cram Eric Paslay down our throats. But seriously though, I just haven't been able to get into this guy's voice AT ALL, and "She Don't Love You" was his only hit that was even a remotely good song... but I would've rather damn near anybody else have sung it because his voice wore on me fast to the point where I just hated hearing SDLY on the radio so, so much.

Man I love hearing Eric Paslay back on radio while he's not among my favorite vocalist (Dierks gets that honor) but he is among my top of the list his debut album was solid even Friday Night was catchy. Eric remains a bright spot in mainstream country and I couldn't be happier.

We lost him :(
Just listened to the preview on iTunes. God that was awful. Reminded me of Stevie Wonder who is a hell of a musician by the way but were talking country here. That was not country. That horn section? Wow
Thank God we didn't lose Jon Pardi and Joe Nichols.

Don't think we lost him at all. A progressive brand of country done right. I think if you listen to the full song you'll enjoy it more.

Eh, this doesn't really move the needle either way for me. It feels a lot different than his all previous singes and I'm not sure how I feel about it.

Well, that was unpleasant; I don't like this one bit. I could definitely see this one getting extremely grating, extremely quick. I don't like the production whatsoever and I'm having trouble with this song coupled with Eric's vocals -- it just makes my head hurt.

Eric, as an artist, is an odd case for me to put my finger on. Two of the three singles he released last CD were a bit "bro" (which was the current trend at the time). They weren't really bro in their musical tendencies, more in the melodies and content. (Then he released "She Don't Love You" which obviously was a straight country song).
Anyone who only listened to his 3 singles probably thinks this is him just pandering to the current trend, which it certainly seems to be. He's got a groove beat and horns in the background and he also says "we high class" as opposed to the correct "we're high class", most likely something done with intent.
However, this song really isn't far off in feel from some of the songs on the first album, like "Like a Song", "Good with Wine", "Keep on Fallin'", which all had a very soulful groovy aura.
I don't really like this as much as I liked some of his first songs (mostly because, well, I'm a country fan, and this is an obvious attempt to use Jesse Frasure and make another Bruno Mars song) but it isn't horrible. Middle of the road for me. And this is coming from someone who was really rooting for him during his first album cycle.
On a side note: does anyone find this R&B/soul/groove/funk trend to be wearing on you much more quickly than the bro trend did?

In my opinion the only song that could potentially be considered "bro" is Friday night. "Song About a Girl" is anti-bro because he's saying "this ain't about _______". All the things in the blank are "bro" things so he's speaking out against them. To go along with the grammatically incorrectness, I believe I heard a reference to Justin Timberlake somewhere in the the second verse lyrics lol. He's trying to be gangster or something haha.

In terms of that, he says "Caddil- up this -lac" which is really annoying to me. It's more like "tonight we low class" lol. I'm guessing the majority of this was written by Crowder and funk-daddy Frasure because this is a far cry from Eric's songs like "Even If It Breaks Your Heart", "Less Than Whole", "Country Side of Heaven" and "She Don't Love You". Even his more liberal songs ("Rewind", "Friday Night", "Angel Eyes") showed more substance and heart than this.

C'mon Eric, you're a much better artist than this.

At first listen I quite like it! :) It's very, very modern but still recognisable as country rooted. The production is neat. The brass part is pretty good although it feels like a sample from another song.

NO! NO! NO! Eric has never made my ears bleed before. Seriously, he was the LAST new artist I ever expected to dislike. This is just so bad. :(

Just can't get into his voice, it's so plain and it always sounds like he's straining to hit those notes. This isn't very country at all either, which doesn't ruin songs completely for me, but I just don't find this to be all that good or catchy. Wouldn't surprised me if this one was steady until the teens, and then suffered from some bad callout scores. Eric seems like a nice guy, but count me out on this one.

This is just plaid putrid. Granted, I don't find Eric appealing in the least, I haven't liked anything of his outside of If The Fish Don't Bite. But this is just trend chasing, pandering garbage. I don't see this being the ticket to stardom that Eric thinks it is, but I never thought Friday Night stood a chance either.

This is horrible.. I didn't think Eric would give in to the R&B trend.. Disappointing to say the least.

Another awful song from Eric Paslay. Color me unsurprised. Praying that this one doesn't get played all to hell though and actually doesn't become a hit. *fingers crossed*

This song was produced by Jesse Frasure as well. Go figure, lol.

I'm hoping this doesn't amount to much, but we'll see.

So he follows up one of the best songs of the year with the worst single he's ever created.

The add date for this has been set for October 26th according to All Access.
The prior date was the 5th but that was from Music Row, so All Access is likely the correct source.

"High Class" is the most added song on MB this week, with 38 adds. One more than second place's "Backroad Song" by Granger Smith.
