www.metalinsider.net/columns/metal-by-numbers/metal-by-numbers-923-slayer-falls-under-the-horizonMetal By Numbers 9/23: Slayer falls under the horizonPosted by Matt Brown on September 23, 2015 Notable Debuts:Bring Me The Horizon, That’s The Spirit (Columbia) #1, 55,175 sold The band’s fifth album is their highest charting yet, more than doubling the 27,000 Sempiternal sold. Slayer, Repentless (Nuclear Blast) #2, 48,650 sold Slayer return with the highest charting album of their career. Hollywood Vampires, Hollywood Vampires (UMe) #22, 8,850 sold This rock supergroup was formed by Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp, and Joe Perry. Scorpions, Return To Forever (RCA) #33, 6,600 sold The band’s first album in five years does well, though not quite as well as its predecessor. But that’s to be expected since Sting in the Tail was originally going to be their last album. Foo Fighters, Songs From The Laundry Room (RCA) #191, 1,200 sold This is an EP originally released on Record Store Day. Notable Sales:Five Finger Death Punch, Got Your Six (Prospect Park) #5, 32,150 sold Not surprisingly, this is still in the top five even after a 72% drop. Iron Maiden, The Book of Souls (BMG) #10, 18,850 sold Maiden stay in the top 10 after a 74% drop. Disturbed, Immortalized (Reprise) #19, 9,700 sold A 38% drop, but it’s still in the top 20 after 4 weeks. Kid Rock, First Kiss (Warner Bros.) #47, 5,000 sold Boosted (again) into the top 50. Breaking Benjamin, Dark Before Dawn (Hollywood) #50, 4,625 sold Still in the top 50 after 12 weeks. Ghost, Meliora (Loma Vista) #84, 2,875 sold A 29% drop, but over 40,000 sold. Lamb of God, VII: Sturm Und Drang (Epic) #103, 2,250 sold Over 80,000 sold, which, if it keep selling at this pace, might be one of the best-selling albums of 2015. Motörhead, Bad Magic (UDR) #106, 2,250 sold A bad 45% drop, but at least Lemmy’s healthyish again. Bullet For My Valentine, Venom (RCA) #113, 2,125 sold A 33% drop. Pop Evil, Up (eOne) #138, 1,625 sold Over 20,000 sold. Halestorm, Into the Wild Life (Atlantic) #144, 1,575 sold Another boost of 10%. Hollywood Undead, Day of the Dead (Interscope) #145, 1,575 sold The band’s current tour boosts this way back up and onto the charts. Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats, The Night Creeper (Rise Above) #148, 1,500 sold A not too terrible 57% drop in week 2. Foo Fighters, Sonic Highways (RCA) #167, 1,325 sold With over 490,000 sold, the gold isn’t so far away. Slipknot, .5: The Gray Chapter (Roadrunner) #175, 1,275 sold We should expect some boosts when Knotfest happens in about a month. In This Moment, Black Widow (Atlantic) #185, 1,250 sold A tiny drop of 6%. Nile, What Should Not Be Unearthed (Nuclear Blast) 740 sold Unearthing a 41% drop. Riverside, Love, Fear, and the Time Machine (InsideOut) 510 sold A 65% drop in week 2. From Ashes To New, Downfall (Bette Noise) 500 sold After some boost, this takes a drop 16%. Amorphis, Under The Red Cloud (Nuclear Blast) 480 sold A clouded 70% drop. Battlecross, Rise To Power (Metal Blade) 410 sold The band’s tour with GWAR next month may yield some boosts. Spock’s Beard, The Oblivion Particle (InsideOut) 340 sold A drop by 13% is a close shave. Meytal, Alchemy (Light Drop) 340 sold A big boost of 69% after a second week drop. Hate Eternal, Infernus (Season of Mist) 340 sold Hate on a 9% drop. Act of Defiance, Birth and the Burial (Metal Blade) 290 sold Can’t defy a 15% drop. Red Sun Rising, Polyester Zeal (Razor & Tie) 270 sold A 22% drop in the red. Myrkur, M (Relapse) 240 sold M, as in “Minus 33% in sales.” Once Human, The Life I Remember (earMUSIC) 220 sold A second week drop of 49%. Black Tongue, The Unconquerable Dark (Century Media) 210 sold Can’t conquer a 56% drop. Teenage Time Killers, Greatest Hits Vol. 1 (Rise) 200 sold This gets boosted back up after dropping off last week. Pig Destroyer, Prowler In The Yard (2015 Reissue) (Relapse) 200 sold Prowling for a 46% drop. Rivers of Nihil, Monarchy (Metal Blade) 190 sold A 37% drop doesn’t flow well. ^Is that a new low for albums since 1991? I've lost track. I think it is. Billboard has stopped commenting on album lows. Album sales were down 15% this week compared to last year.
