tim, the articles I have seen covering his press conference say that the song is going for adds on Wednesday September 23rd (tomorrow!!) I cannot wait to hear what this sounds like. If it were a Toby Keith title I would be cringing and saying "Oh my God, not another one," but since it is recorded by George I imagine it will be some fascinating mix of clever, whimsical, creative, fun, deep, catchy, and introspective...

Doesn't that headshot on the artwork look very similar to the Troubadour album cover? Anyways, I am stoked for the album. I don't know if I'll go see him in Vegas due to schedule stuff but I would love to go. Can't wait to hear this song.

Interesting article from USA Today, featuring an interview with George about this new song, the new album, and the Vegas shows. A snippet pertaining to this song: If those are lyrics from the song that he quoted, it made me immediately think of Blake's "Boys Round Here". I bet the song will be completely different, but that was just my first thought... And pertaining to his Vegas dates: He also mentioned that the album has been done since a couple months after his tour ended, and the label was the one waiting for the right time to release it. Also, Jamey Johnson provides background vocals on "Cheaper Than A Shrink".

I posted the link to the audio above, but I'll put it here as well: Link to World Premiere. This song sounded nothing quite like I expected, as in this song is really, really smooth and chill. I am just loving this to pieces! Such an easy going tune.

I hope George Strait has a cold beer conversation with all the radio programmers out there and gets this one to #1. I would love to see him get another hit (his 87th top ten and 45th #1).

Do we think this will make any impact? I mean, "Let it Go" obviously didn't but it seems like maybe this one will since it is coming out with a surprise record. The Highway is spinning it every hour for what it's worth.

My local iHeart station world premiered it but not sure if it's an hourly deal or not.
I would honestly love if it was, because it means the song will be heard.

Wow. This is an amazing song! I still can't imagine him getting a hit (I mean, what genres have 63 year olds topping the charts still?) but I am so glad he is still releasing amazing music. This song is just so so so good. So chill. I love it.

Yep, he's still got it! I really hope this has enough buzz to become even a moderate hit. I have seen several articles stating this is the debut single from the album, like they don't even know that "Let It Go" ever happened... Perhaps the splashy debut of this song will make people pay attention

Luckily for the King of Country Music, his chart absence is bound to be over in a matter of days. On Tuesday, he announced that he is releasing a new album, Cold Beer Conversation on September 25th.
So, Let It Go was a mirage?

Luckily for the King of Country Music, his chart absence is bound to be over in a matter of days. On Tuesday, he announced that he is releasing a new album, Cold Beer Conversation on September 25th. So, Let It Go was a mirage? Well, even considering "Let It Go," George has not had a song out now for like 4 months. That's a significant gap for him, compared to the rest of his career. And it's not like when LIG was out his name was all over the country charts... It's been like a year since "I Got A Car" hit the top 20, and the single before that did even worse than "Let It Go." So I think it is perfectly valid for him to have noticed a "chart absence" in his career lately. But like I said before, I have seen numerous articles stating that this is his first single from the album, so maybe "Let It Go" actually WAS a mirage...

Now that I'm not on a school computer, I can listen to this...no surprise, I absolutely love this. It honestly feels like it's 1997 again when I'm listening to this song. It would have fit right in when George was releasing songs like "One Night At A Time" and "I Just Want To Dance With You." I also like George's vocals on this track; his vocals have caught up with his age the past couple years but I really enjoy it here. I love the laid-back instrumentation and the production is great. Oh yeah, another little steel solo after the second chorus...that will score some extra brownie points with me, lol. I'm seeing this all over the web right now. Everything associated with iHeartMedia has mentioned it and there's a massive amount of articles touting this single. I know carriekins said that she heard her iHeartMedia station debut it but she didn't know if they are doing the hourly deal, which I would assume would be the case since that always happens. Even if it's not the case, that would also be unsurprising since George's days at scoring top 10 records at radio are over. "Let It Go" had a ACM performance and that was it in terms of buzz. This song however, has most certainly gotten more exposure over the past 24 hours than LIG ever did. I think country radio knew about this song's release for a little while now and MCA Nashville has this "surprise release" for the single and album lined up for a while. I'm just happy that at least a decent amount of folks will hear this song and I would love for nothing more than George to match or outdo Thomas Rhett in album sales.

This is really good, and everybody hit the nail in the coffin about it being really "chill". Nice, simple, relatable, and some solid vocals. I'm enjoying this new roll out for George, and I think it would be nice to see more country artists try this route for album release. I think this would be a great platform for Miranda to try out when she's ready for her next album.

I love love love this!!! I can't wait to hear some REAL Country music in 2015 on Friday when I get this album! One of George's best songs in recent years. Now let's hope radio has the balls to play it to the top 10!

Yeah I'd love for this to be a top ten single, but without a major push this is going to be the same old story for George. With the press around the album and Vegas shows, it could be enough to land in the top 20 (or higher), but the majority of people are going to want to hear this on the radio. I just honestly don't think radio wants to play traditional sounding music like this anymore outside of select stations here in San Antonio and surrounding areas.
All that being said, it does sound like early 2000s George (self-titled album if I had to choose a specific era along the lines of Go On and If You Can Do Anything Else) and instantly one of my top songs of the year. I'd love for this to be HUGE, but my expectations are low.

Funny you mention that...when I first heard this I immediately thought of "If You Can Do Anything Else" and how this tune would've fit perfectly into that album lol.

Billboard RTT:
Country No.1 Kenny Chesney Save It For A Rainy Day +35884 George Strait Cold Beer Conversation
Looks like George got 3.5884 million in audience yesterday. That would have placed CBC at #38 on this week's Billboard chart, behind Lee Brice but ahead of Easton Corbin.
I'm assuming most of the 3.6 mil came from iHeartMedia stations, but we can't expect them to give it another 3 mil a day the rest of the week. Maybe if George is lucky he can get up into the 4.5 to 5 million range by the end of the week and debut somewhere in the 33-37 range on Monday's Billboard chart.

Heck, if this can debut higher than the peaks of "I Believe", "Let It Go", and even "Drinkin' Man", I will consider that a huge success for George already!
