UPDATED NEW RELEASES: JANET HEADED FOR #1 Barring any “sneak attack” superstar releases, BMG’s returning icon Janet Jackson should easily claim the #1 spot on both the HITS sales and SPS charts this Friday with her new set, Unbreakable. Here’s what we have for Janet and the week’s other key debut, Tamar Braxton’s Calling All Lovers. Janet Jackson (BMG) 100-110k albums, 103-113k SPS Tamar Braxton (Epic) 35-40k, 39-44k Clutch (Weathermaker) 19-22k, 20-23k Sevendust (7Bros) 18-21k, 19-22k Trivium (Roadrunner) 14-17k, 15-18k Avicii (Island) 11-14k, 14-17k Collective Soul (Vanguard) 11-14k, 12-15k Winery Dogs (Loud & Proud) 8-10k, 8-10k Eagles of Death Metal (UMe) 8-10k, 8-10k Queensryche (Century Media) 8-10k, 8-10k Unbreakable reunites Jackson with producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, with whom she created her most enduring albums, and features guest spots from J. Cole and Missy Elliott. These are, of course, very preliminary numbers. Look for updates on these and other new releases on Monday. hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=297942Fantastic news for a fantastic album. If only she did promo!

I'm very happy for Janet. The album is good and those are excellent sales. Other legacy acts should take notes.

That's exactly what I expected it to debut with. Solid sales. It'll be her 7th #1 album.

That's great and better than I thought she would do. Hope she does even higher. Well deserved!

Could you post a list where everyone is included? I basically dislike all male/female/group categories.

That you don't have to try and keep up with the young chicks in order to remain relevant. Janet made an album that is true to her sound and herself, and she's seeing great results.

On par with what I expected for Janet. That's a good number for her, especially with it being #1.
Tamar, on the other hand, I expected to do at least 60k. But then again there's been very poor promotion.

That you don't have to try and keep up with the young chicks in order to remain relevant. Janet made an album that is true to her sound and herself, and she's seeing great results. While I slightly agree because I'm not here for Madonna jumping on trends and working with people who are hot right now and including them in her video to get views... I will say that you really should note that an artist like Madonna put out 3 albums since the last Janet album and there are many tracks on each album that are true to Madonna's sound. It still appears that Janet with anticipation over 7 years from her fanbase will sell less than Madonna's recent one unless Janet manages 116k pure sales...so some of Madonna's decisions might not be for me but they've worked to a certain degree. I'm using Madonna as an example because although no one used her name...I figured it made sense to draw a comparison. To be fair, Janet's new album sounds better than Madonna's last two IMO since I'm a fan of both so it's a win win either way.

Yeah, I think Janet's absence contributed largely to her sales. If this album had come out in 2010, I don't think it would have been the same success story. She waited long enough for the comeback to be anticipated after multiple underperforming albums, and the material is her strongest in nearly two decades which certainly doesn't hurt.

Not posting this to get into a debate on semantics- only for clarification: Madonna's latest release was No. 1 in sales, so she has had nine No. 1 sellers. And Michael Jackson has seven, as Number Ones was the top-selling album in the country for multiple weeks in 2009. For the list I keep, I include those numbers with asterisks (I'd have to check if we're missing anyone). It looks like Janet's album will be No. 1 on both Album Sales and BB 200, so at least that avoids any need for asterisks.
I'm pleased that Unbreakable has a good shot at topping 100K in first-week sales. I'm not sure how her album would have performed if it were released in 2010/2011. Album sales were larger then, and the last one had sold 181K.

areyouready- this is what I have (including the likely JJ scenario). Note that R. Kelly's total includes a collaborative album with Jay Z (also included in Jay Z's tally). I'll post this in the trivia thread, too.
I also have a separate list, for just May 1991-present for No. 1 albums (with a + pre-SoundScan tally in parentheses).
Most No. 1 Albums (Through 10/17/15 charts)
The Beatles: 19
Jay-Z: 13
Bruce Springsteen: 11
Elvis Presley: 10 Barbra Streisand: 10 Rolling Stones: 9
Garth Brooks: 9 Madonna: 9*
U2: 7 Elton John: 7 Paul McCartney/Wings: 7 Eminem: 7 Michael Jackson: 7** Led Zeppelin: 7 Kenny Chesney: 7 Janet Jackson: 7
Kanye West: 6 Dave Matthews Band: 6 Eagles: 6 Mariah Carey: 6 Britney Spears: 6 R. Kelly: 6 Miley Cyrus: 6*** Nas: 6
Metallica: 5 Alicia Keys: 5 Beyonce: 5 George Strait: 5 Pearl Jam: 5 Linkin Park: 5 DMX: 5 Justin Bieber: 5 Rick Ross: 5 2 Pac: 5 Van Halen: 5 Bon Jovi: 5
*- Madonna's Rebel Heart debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Album Sales- or, what the Billboard 200 had been from May 1991-early December 2014. On the Billboard 200 - which added track equivalent album (TEA) sales and streaming info to the mix in December 2014 - the album entered at No. 2. ** Following his passing in June 2009, Michael Jackson's Number Ones reached No. 1 on Billboard's all-encompassing Comprehensive Albums chart (reportedly, the only instance a catalog title sold the most units of any album, whose sales were reported, in a given week since May 1991). After years of excluding catalog albums from the Billboard 200, Billboard allowed catalog albums to chart effective December of that year. ***Miley Cyrus' tally includes three Hannah Montana soundtracks.
A bunch more have four each.

Madonna didn't get to number one on the Billboard 200 with her latest album, REBEL HEART.
And, Janet hasn't done so yet with UNBREAKABLE either. I will very happy, excited and celebratory if Janet manages to achieve that.
Do the presales sold with concert tickets count?

Congrats on Janet anticipated to be debuting at #1 on the billboard 200, the only chart that matters!:) She did it on her own terms and her sound and with no promo and zero shenanigans . Love it that she is respecting herself. This woman is what girls around the world should look up to. Sexually liberated, respects herself, classy and a sweet disposition

Damita Jo was beat out by the 2nd week sales of Usher's Confessions 20 Y.O. was beaten by Ludacris Release Therapy ^^ I'm still pissed off about that 20 was in the lead for most of the week. But, then Ludacris and his label slashed the price of RT to $5. I guess they really wanted that #1
