The tour was fantastic!!! For the non-spoilery parts, I missed Queen Naija's set but got to see Ella Mai. She was vocally on point but lacked some charisma on the stage. The audience went wild and sang along to "Trip" and "Boo'd Up" though. The DJs got the crowd HYPED UP before Mary came on, having sing alongs to 90s R&B classics (e.g. SWV's "Weak"). Unlike white audiences, this audience could SING. While Mary's chest belt has been raspy and throaty for a while, her voice was otherwise FANTASTIC. Her head voice was clear and beautiful and her chest voice when not belting was solid. She did have the audience sing A LOT of the lyrics to the old songs though. Spoilers below w/ lots of concert details including a somewhat out-of-order setlist. The show is divided into four acts with a costume and stage change for each one. Mary performed 32(!) songs, though much like Janet, most of these were hits medleys and not full songs, but some were. Act I Mary ascended stairs from under the stage in a glitter blue outfit to "Amazing" before segueing into "On Top." She and her dancers then did an energetic medley of songs from What's The 411? including my personal fav - Changes I've Been Going Through. (Also included You Remind Me, Real Love, Love No Limit (Remix), and Reminisce). She switched gears and did "Rent Money" from GMG and a bunch of upbeat My Life songs: Mary Jane (All Night Long), You Bring Me Joy, and Be Happy. Act IIIn the most DIVA moment of the whole show, Mary rose from under the stage on a chaise lounge singing "Good Morning Gorgeous." This act was the slower deep cuts segment where she performed four additional songs (Here With Me, Love W/O Heartbreak, Falling in Love, Come See About Me[!!!]) from GMG and some My Life album cuts (I'm The Only One, Mary's Joint). She closed this segment with emotional sing-a-long performances of full versions of "Not Gon Cry" and "I'm Goin' Down." Act IIIA scrim came down to augment the video projections in the background. We got an island vibe for "Everything," NYC city scapes for "Beautiful Ones" and "All That I Can Say," and artful abstract shapes mixed with music video footage for "Share My World" and "My Life" The DJ interlude between acts gave a little love to Love & Life by playing "Not Today" and "It's a Wrap" but it was not the same as seeing any L&L songs live. That is still my favorite Mary album and I was hoping she'd at least include "Love @ 1st Sight" in a medley, but alas - my only disappointment with the show. Act IVBy far my favorite act. Mary came out in a sport white sequined top with practical shoes and did a lot of the Mary bop with her dancers. The lasers, pyro, and other lighting effects enhanced the dancing and charisma coming from the stage and the audience was LIT singing along to every word, b/c this section had HITS: Work That Enough Cryin' The One (this WENT HARD live, I'm sad it wasn't a bigger hit in '09) I Can Love You (w/ Kim's verse) Family Affair Just Fine MJB Da MVP There was no encore but the closer was fitting. This show was a such joyful celebration and the setlist reflects that. Other than a few down emotional moments with Not Gon Cry, I'm Goin' Down, and My Life, she clearly chose the setlist to celebrate her arrival at where she is in her life - happy, healthy, and living her best life - and the audience gave all that energy right back. I was on such a high for at least an hour after the show ended and have just wanted to bump Mary's catalog all day. The only songs missing IMHO were "Be Without You" and "Love @ 1st Sight." I expected BWY to be omitted since it is so intimately tied to Kendu and was prepared not to hear it, but I think L@1S would have fit the vibe of the setlist and got the crowd going especially during the either the first or last act. (I still don't like "Amazing" that much, so I would replace that with L@1S as the opening to get people going wild). The only thing that was a little odd in a way was that she only did songs from GMG or her first two albums (plus Not Gon Cry) for the first half of the concert - nothing from any of her other ten albums were touched until closer to the end. So it was a little weird to veer between her oldest material and brand-new material a chunk of the audience was not familiar with. But the concert flowed really well and was quite the SHOW so it's only a nitpicking observation. Similarly, I was not surprised My Life II, The London Sessions, and Strength of a Woman were paid dust. The songs that did well at radio from those did not fit with the celebratory vibe of the setlist (especially SOAW). But the audience would've known them regardless, given how many people were singing along to Amazing, GMG, and Rent Money. I do appreciate her willingness to showcase her latest album so much as well. Here was the breakdown of songs per album: What's The 411? - 5 My Life - 7 Share My World - 4 Mary - 2 No More Drama - 1 Love & Life - 0 The Breakthrough - 2 Growing Pains - 2 Stronger with Each Tear - 1 My Life II - 0 The London Sessions - 0 Strength of a Woman - 0 Good Morning Gorgeous - 8

Congratulations, Mary. It's insane that this is her first album to be nominated for AOTY. It must mean a lot to her also because this is the first album she released via her own label.
(She received AOTY nominations for Waiting to Exhale and good kid, m.A.A.d city, but as a featured artist.)

I hope this means they’ll give her a performance slot!
I’ll always remember her “No More Drama” performance which was on the heels of her losing all her categories that year (I think it was the year Alicia Keys did a sweep).
