www.billboard.com/biz/articles/6722965/janet-jackson-earns-historic-seventh-no-1-album-on-billboard-200-chartJanet Jackson Earns Historic Seventh No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 ChartBy Keith Caulfield | October 11, 2015 3:30 PM EDT Janet Jackson debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart with her new album, Unbreakable. It marks her seventh chart-topper and makes her just the third act to achieve No. 1 albums in each of the last four decades. The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Oct. 24-dated chart (where Jackson is No. 1) will be posted in full to Billboard’s Web sites on Tuesday, Oct. 13. Unbreakable -- which was released on Oct. 2 -- arrives atop the chart with 116,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Oct. 8, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, the set sold 109,000 in pure album sales. Unbreakable is Jackson’s first studio album since 2008’s Discipline, which also debuted at No. 1. Jackson previously led the list with All For You (2001), The Velvet Rope (1997), janet. (1993), Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814 (1989) and Control (1986). Among women with the most No. 1 albums, Jackson has the third-most leaders. Only Barbra Streisand (with 10) and Madonna (eight) have more. Streisand and Jackson are also in rare company: along with Bruce Springsteen, the three performers are the only acts with No. 1 albums in the last four decades: '10s, '00s, ‘90s and '80s. Streisand most recently topped the tally in 2014 with Partners, and also collected leaders in the '00s, '90s, '80s, '70s and '60s. Springsteen, like Jackson, has claimed No. 1s in the '10s, '00s, '90s and '80s. Springsteen has a total of 11 No. 1s. (Notably, Streisand is the only act with No. 1s in the last five and six decades.) Unbreakable is also Jackson’s first independently distributed album, and it was released on her own Rhythm Nation label through BMG. The set also starts at No. 1 on the Independent Albums chart. Jackson’s new album was led by the single “No Sleeep,” featuring J. Cole. The track became her 40th hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (peaking at No. 63), and has spent seven weeks at No. 1 on the Adult R&B Songs chart. Somewhat unusually, Unbreakable hit No. 1 without the benefit of a single press interview by Jackson to promote the album. Although Jackson been quiet with the media, she’s been on the road with her Unbreakable World Tour since Aug. 31, released a music video for “No Sleeep,” and made an appearance on the BET Awards to accept the Ultimate Icon Award (June 28). Unbreakable leads a relatively quiet top 10 on the Billboard 200, where only three new albums bow in the region. The calm comes after two straight weeks where the top 10 saw seven debuts. The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind the Madness climbs 5-2 with 73,000 units (down 11 percent), Drake and Future’s What a Time to Be Alive dips 2-3 with 65,000 (down 39 percent) and last week’s leader, Fetty Wap’s self-titled album, falls to No. 4 in its second frame with 64,000 (down 50 percent). Tamar Braxton starts at No. 5 with her latest album, Calling All Lovers, bowing with 43,000 units ( 38,000 in pure album sales). Her last studio effort, 2013’s Love and War, debuted and peaked at No. 2 with 114,000 copies sold in its first week. The entire top five on the Billboard 200 are R&B/hip-hop albums -- the first time the region has been dominated as such since the Jan. 13, 2007-dated chart. That week, Omarion’s 21 led the list, followed by Akon’s Konvicted, the Dreamgirls film soundtrack, Nas’ Hip Hop Is Dead and Young Jeezy’s The Inspiration. Taylor Swift’s 1989 is nearing a full year in the top 10, as it spends a 50th week in the region (rising 7-6 with 38,000 units; down 8 percent). The album has yet to depart the top 10 since its debut at No. 1. Thomas Rhett’s Tangled Up slips 6-7 in its second week (just over 32,000 units; down 58 percent), George Strait’s Cold Beer Conversation is down 4-8 ( 32,000; down 63 percent), Luke Bryan’s Kill the Lights rises 13-9 ( 30,000; up 4 percent) and Don Henley’s Cass County falls 3-10 ( 29,000; down 67 percent).

www.metalinsider.net/columns/metal-by-numbers/metal-by-numbers-1014-clutch-wage-psychic-warfare-on-the-chartsMetal By Numbers 10/14: Clutch wage Psychic Warfare on the chartsPosted by Matt Brown on October 14, 2015 Metal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top metal sellers and debuts of the week. If you take a look at this week’s edition of Metal By Numbers, you’ll notice a few things. First, that we have a lot of debuts (as has been the theme these past few weeks). Second, the Notable Sales section is significantly shorter than normal. And third, some rank numbers are missing for certain albums. Normally, this column relies on a specific set of charts with specific information every week. However, this week a different set of charts were used, meaning things will look just a bit different from you may be used to. Rest assured that these numbers are all still accurate, so go ahead and celebrate three metal albums in the top 20. Notable Debuts:Clutch, Psychic Warfare (Weathermaker) #11, 25,850 sold As you’ve no doubt heard, Clutch’s eleventh studio album marks the band’s best debut yet. Sevendust, Kill The Flaw (7Bros) #18, 17,750 sold The band’s eleventh album manages to outdo last year’s acoustic album, which debuted with around 15,000 copies. Trivium, Silence In The Snow (Roadrunner) #19, 17,450 sold Trivium’s seventh studio album clocks in with a debut similar to 2013’s Vengeance Falls. Queensrÿche, Condition Human (Century Media) #27, 13,800 sold Two weeks following Operation: Mindcrime’s new album, the Geoff Tate-less version of Queensrÿche (or the non Operation: Mindcrime version, if you will) release their new album that debuts about on par with 2013’s self-titled effort. The Winery Dogs, Hot Streak (Loud & Proud) #30, 12,700 sold The sophomore album from the super trio outdoes their 2012 debut album. Deafheaven, New Bermuda (ANTI-) #63, 7,450 sold Sunbather was a bit of a sleeper hit, so naturally Deafheaven’s third release was going to end up being their biggest debut yet. For Today, Wake (Nuclear Blast) #67, 7,000 sold The band’s sixth album gets a solid debut, though it doesn’t quite outdo the sales of their previous releases. Children of Bodom, I Worship Chaos (Nuclear Blast) #92, 5,725 sold Bodom’s ninth album doesn’t outdo its predecessors in the US, but it’s their fifth number one album over in Finland. Fit for an Autopsy, Absolute Hope Absolute Hell (eOne) 2,725 sold The band’s third album marks their best debut yet. Kylesa, Exhausting Fire (Season of Mist) 1,625 sold The seventh album from the sludge metal act gets a solid debut. Denner/Sherman, Satan’s Tomb (Metal Blade) 890 sold The legendary guitar duo of Mercyful Fate have teamed up once again for this EP Notable Sales:Five Finger Death Punch, Got Your Six (Prospect Park) 10,525 sold Got your 16% drop. Shinedown, Threat To Survival (Atlantic) 9,925 sold Threatened by a 29% drop. Iron Maiden, The Book of Souls (BMG) 5,450 sold Did you ever think you’d see Minions and Iron Maiden in the same sentence? You have now. Disturbed, Immortalized (Reprise) 5,175 sold A 7% drop isn’t so disturbing. Bring Me The Horizon, That’s The Spirit (Columbia) 4,900 sold For whatever reason, the album title just makes me think of this Monty Python scene. Slayer, Repentless (Nuclear Blast) 4,775 sold Slaying a 25% drop. Chris Cornell, Higher Truth (UMe) 4,375 sold Still high after a 19% drop. Breaking Benjamin, Dark Before Dawn (Hollywood) 3,750 sold A 10% tumble. Parkway Drive, Ire (Epitaph) 3,700 sold A second week drop of 74%. Hollywood Vampires, Hollywood Vampires (UMe) 2,050 sold A 31% drop. Ghost, Meliora (Loma Vista) 1,975 sold This picks up a small 5% boost. Atreyu, Long Live (Spinefarm) 1,400 sold Living witha 33% drop. Halestorm, Into the Wild Life (Atlantic) 1,450 sold A slight boost of 4%. Scorpions, Return To Forever (RCA) 1,375 sold Return to a 19% drop. Lamb of God, VII: Sturm Und Drang (Epic) 1,325 sold Still holding out for an Angra/Lamb of God/Megadeth tour. Just sayin’. Bullet For My Valentine, Venom (RCA) 1,275 sold Over 45,000 sold. Slipknot, .5: The Gray Chapter (Roadrunner) 1,250 sold This dropped off last week, but at week 50 an 11% boost has brought it back up. Pop Evil, Up (eOne) 1,225 sold Up by 5%. The Black Dahlia Murder, Abysmal (Metal Blade) 1,200 sold This drops by 79% in week two. Metal Allegiance, Metal Allegiance (Nuclear Blast) 920 sold A 30% drop. Not metal.

Great debut for Janet and without any promo this week!!! Did she not do much promo because it's an independent release? Doesn't the label normally pay for stuff like that so maybe that's why she didn't do much? She can get on any show she wants I would think. Maybe money is the reason she didn't do much promo???? (oh and I know Janet isn't broke" LoL

The former, first issued in 1982 and McCartney’s last No. 1, returns to the Billboard 200 at No. 56 (8,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Oct. 8, according to Nielsen Music). Meanwhile, its follow-up set, 1983’s No. 15-peaking Pipes of Peace, comes back at No. 70 (7,000 units). Both albums feature singles that topped the Billboard Hot 100, and both are duets: Tug of War’s “Ebony and Ivory” (with Stevie Wonder) and Pipes of Peace’s “Say Say Say” (with Michael Jackson) spent seven and six weeks at No. 1, respectively. One of the bonus features on the Pipes of Peace reissue is a new mix of “Say Say Say,” with previously unheard vocals from McCartney and Jackson, where they switch lead vocals on the track. The remix was serviced to radio on Oct. 2 and accompanied by a new video, directed by Ryan Heffington (who choreographed Sia’s “Chandelier” clip). On the Catalog Albums chart, Tug of War makes its first appearance on the list, bowing at No. 1 (8,000 sold). Pipes of Peace also pops on the first time, at No. 2 with 7,000. So far, nine McCartney and Wings albums have been reissued in the Archive Collection series, and all nine of them have reached the top 10 of the Catalog Albums chart. Three of them have hit No. 1: Tug of War, Wings Over America (2013) and Ram (2012). — Sevendust, Kill the Flaw - No. 13 — Sevendust is part of a parade of rock acts the arrive in the upper reaches of the Billboard 200, as the band’s latest effort, Kill the Flaw, bows at No. 13 (21,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Oct. 8, according to Nielsen Music). Kill the Flaw is one of six new rock albums start in the chart’s top 30, and marks the second-highest charting album for the band. Their top-charting set — out of 13 so far — is 2010’s Cold Day Memory, which debuted and peaked at No. 12. — Trivium, Silence in the Snow - No. 19 — The metal band collects its fifth consecutive top 40 album with the debut of Silence in the Snow at No. 19 (18,000 units, of which 17,000 were pure album sales). The group’s highest charting album is 2011’s In Waves, which debuted and peaked at No. 13 off a 22,000 sales start. The new set also starts at No. 3 on the Hard Rock Albums chart. — Joe Bonamassa, Live at Radio City Music Hall - No. 77 — The singer scores his record-extending 15th No. 1 on Blues Albums with the chart-topping bow of this set (6,000 sold). It also launches at No. 77 on the Billboard 200 with 7,000 units, and marks his 14th charting title. — Muse, Drones - No. 95 — Sales of the album increase by 147 percent (and enable its No. 95 reentry) thanks to a concert ticket/album bundle offer with the group’s current tour. This is the highest rank for the album since the July 25-dated chart, when it placed at No. 61.
