www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6731005/selena-gomez-scores-her-second-no-1-album-on-billboard-200-chart-revivalSelena Gomez Scores Her Second No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 ChartBy Keith Caulfield | October 18, 2015 Selena Gomez achieves her second No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart, as Revival opens in the top slot. The set was released on Oct. 9 through Interscope Records and starts with 117,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Oct. 15, according to Nielsen Music. The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Oct. 31-dated chart (where Gomez is No. 1) will be posted in full to Billboard’s Web sites on Tuesday, Oct. 20. Of Revival’s first-week units, 85,000 were in pure album sales, which also makes it the top selling album of the week (and her second-largest sales week yet). It debuts at No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart. Her last studio album, 2013’s Stars Dance, was her first No. 1 on the Billboard 200. It started with 97,000 in album sales (her best sales week ever). Revival is also Gomez’s first album for Interscope, after charting four studio efforts and a greatest hits set for Hollywood Records (between 2009 and 2014). Revival was led by the single “Good for You,” featuring A$AP Rocky, which became her first No. 1 on the Pop Songs airplay chart (known as Mainstream Top 40 on billboard.biz). It also climbed to No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 -- her highest charting single so far on that tally. The album’s latest single, “Same Old Love,” is climbing both lists: it was bulleted at No. 21 on the Oct. 24-dated Pop Songs chart, and rose 48-38 on the Hot 100. Behind Gomez on the Billboard 200 is rapper The Game with the debut of The Documentary 2 at No. 2 ( 95,000 units; 83,000 in album sales). It’s the seventh top 10 effort for The Game, following Blood Moon: Year of the Wolf (No. 7 in 2014), Jesus Piece (No. 6; 2012), The R.E.D. Album (No. 1; 2011), LAX (No. 2; 2008), Doctor’s Advocate (No. 1; 2006) and The Documentary (No. 1; 2005). The new Documentary 2 set is the first of a two-part release for The Game, as he issued The Documentary 2.5 on Oct. 16. The rest of the new top 10 is fairly quiet, save for a third new entry in the region: country singer Jana Kramer’s Thirty One at No. 10 ( 22,000 units; 18,000 from album sales). The effort is Kramer’s second studio album and marks her first top 10, surpassing the No. 19 debut and peak of her self-titled 2012 debut. As for the rest of the top 10: The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind the Madness slips 2-3 ( 77,000 units; up 5 percent), Fetty Wap’s self-titled album holds at No. 4 ( 53,000; down 17 percent) and Drake & Future’s What a Time to Be Alive dips 3-5 ( 49,000; down 25 percent). Taylor Swift’s 1989 is steady at No. 6 ( 37,000; down 1 percent), Luke Bryan’s Kill the Lights climbs 9-7 ( 31,000; up 5 percent) and Janet Jackson’s Unbreakable drops 1-8 in its second week ( 30,000; down 74 percent). Thomas Rhett’s Tangled Up falls 7-9 with 27,000 (down 16 percent).

HITS' numbers for Unbreakable were off even more this week than last. It probably stands at around 135,000-136,000 in album sales for its first two weeks.

OOOH go Janet! 2 weeks in top ten! I predict it getting at least 15-20 weeks in top 100.

Stories is bombing horribly... The lack of a hit single is really hindering its success.

And there's no potential hit single on the album.. the only song I sort of like is the one featuring Zac Brown

I'm glad that Unbreakable is still in the Top 5 on most of the album charts!

Not sure about Sia and Creedence but for the others, there was a 69 cent sale for songs from each starting last week on Google Play: The A Team & Lose Yourself were part of that and they no doubt boosted TEA for those albums.

^That's why the Billboard 200 is hella boring now. Same old albums each week... Plus, they benefit from SPS. Every time they're at #190 or something I start to have hope that they'll leave... only to rise again lol (FFDP, ASAP, Wiz, M&RL in this case, which I have no idea why as the albums aren't on the catalog chart and the singles have peaked.

There are at least two errors in the charts this week. Firstly, how is Dream Your Life Away #96 on Top Album Sales but not on the Billboard 200? (it spent a while on the Billboard 200 before when not on Top Album Sales) (it has more sales and SPS than Rob Thomas' "The Great Unknown", which was on the Billboard 200) That album hasn't been on the chart since August where it magically disappeared for a week on all the charts only to reenter Rock and Folk Albums the following week. Secondly, tobyMac's This Is Not a Test topped the Top Christian Album chart but is neither on Top Album Sales nor Top Current Albums (yet Lauren Daigle could stay). I emailed Billboard about this but they didn't respond. areyoureadytojump can you write an email to Billboard about this?

www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6738422/josh-groban-stages-half-million-us-salesJosh Groban's 'Stages' Hits Half-Million in U.S. SalesBy Keith Caulfield | October 23, 2015 Josh Groban earns his ninth half-million-selling album, as Stages tiptoes past the 500,000 sales mark in the U.S., according to Nielsen Music. The album sold another 4,000 copies in the week ending Oct. 15, bringing its cumulative total to 502,000. The showtunes-filled album is Groban’s most recent effort and was released on April 28. Groban’s best-seller remains Closer, which was released in 2001 and has moved 6.1 million copies. He’s had three more million-sellers: Noel (5.8 million, released in 2007), his self-titled debut (5.2 million, 2003) and Awake (2.3 million, 2006). Stages has only seen one of its tracks reach the singles charts: “All I Ask of You,” a duet with Kelly Clarkson, reached No. 32 on Pop Digital Songs. (“All I Ask of You” was originally from the stage show The Phantom of the Opera.) Groban’s previous album, 2013’s All That Echoes, contained four charting songs: “Brave” and “I Believe (When I Fall In Love It Will Be Forever),” which reached Nos. 13 and 18 on Adult Contemporary, and “E It Promettero” and “Un Alma Mas,” which hit Nos. 14 and 16 on Classical Digital Songs. Groban’s currently on tour through Nov. 4. A TV special drawn from his tour -- Josh Groban: Stages Live -- will premiere Nov. 28 on PBS. The concert comes shortly before Noel makes its debut on vinyl, as the Christmas album will bow as a double-LP on Dec. 4.

That overall unit figure combines pure album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Now, let’s take a closer look at some of the action on the Oct. 24 chart: — Kane Brown, Closer - No. 40 — Unsigned country singer Kane Brown continues to stride up the charts, as his self-released Closer EP vaults 161-40 on the Billboard 200 and steps 10-8 on Top Country Albums. He also bows on the Billboard Artist 100 at No. 93. Much of Brown’s popularity has been driven by his homemade performance videos on Facebook. A clip of him performing Lonestar’s “Amazed” has amassed 6.9 million views on the platform, while another video of Brown singing along to his own “Used to Love You Sober” single has collected 11 million views. He has 1 million followers on Facebook, though just 29,000 followers on Twitter. Brown is managed by Jay Frank, founder of the music and marketing analytics companies DigSin and DigMark. In August, Universal Music Group (UMG) named Frank to the newly created position of senior vice president of global streaming marketing, while UMG acquired stakes in both DigSin and DigMark. Closer climbs on the Billboard 200 -- breaking the top 40 for the first time -- with 9,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Oct. 15 (according to Nielsen Music). It tallied a 133 percent unit gain for the week. Since the EP’s release in June, it has sold 18,000 copies, with the bulk of its sales coming in the last three weeks (13,000). 97 percent of its total sales -- which are strong in the south central region of the U.S. -- come from downloads. — Various Artists, Now 55 - No. 23 — A $6.99 sale price in the iTunes Store prompts 62 percent unit gain for the album, as it zooms 41-23 with 17,000 units (all from pure album sales). iTunes discounting also aids Elle King at No. 27 ( up 38 percent in sales). — R. City, What Dreams Are Made Of - No. 25 — Rising duo R. City jumps onto the Billboard 200 at No. 25 with their debut album What Dreams Are Made Of (16,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Oct. 15, according to Nielsen Music). The duo — brothers Theron and Timothy Thomas — broke through as an artist in 2015 thanks to their No. 6-peaking Billboard Hot 100 hit “Locked Away,” featuring Adam Levine. The brothers have previously written numerous Hot 100 hits for the likes of Miley Cyrus and Rihanna. — W.A.S.P., Golgotha - No. 93 — Rock band W.A.S.P. returns to the Billboard 200 for the first time since 1989, as its new album Golgotha bows at No. 93. The group was last on the chart with The Headless Children, which peaked at No. 48 (April 29, 1989) and spent its last week on the list dated July 15, 1989. — Jess Glynne, I Laugh When I Cry - No. 110 — As the album’s single “Hold My Hand” reenters the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 94, her album rebounds 151-110 with a 12 percent unit gain. The single maintains its bullet at No. 28 on Mainstream Top 40.
