Yeah, doesn't the freeze cause songs to have a little more longevity too? Like this song will fall for the freeze and then it will get crazy gains in the beginning of January. So it really will just depend on if radio stations are able to hold off on spinning WWWY. Which clearly didn't happen with Blank Space/Style last year around the same time.

There's also the fact it'll zoom hugely up AC once the freeze is over too - could add another 15-20 million AI to its total from that alone in the space of a week.

I think late January/early February would be a good time to send "When We Were Young" for adds. It'll likely be top 20 on HAC before then though as it's already #35 and climbing fast there!

I agree that this is already an Adele classic. How do you guys think WWWY will do? Personally, I think that is going to end up becoming her signature song. Any thoughts?

This might sound like a stupid question but when people say the FREEZE, what do they mean?  I know the Christmas music takes over and on some stations it is now all Christmas music like a lot of AC Radio.  Is that the freeze they mean?  Like after the Christmas songs die out on Dec 26, the regular songs come back?

Yes. That is exactly what the "holiday/Christmas freeze" is.

Wrong, actually. The 'freeze', at least as it's known on pop radio, is the time of year (generally the second half of December leading into January) where pop as a format gets sluggish and stagnant. Playlists (I believe) switch to automated as all the PD's go on holiday, plus there's year-end stuff that cuts into the airplay of currently active songs. In previous years it was much more of an actually 'freeze' where everything came to virtually a standstill, but lately for pop it's been closer to a 'chill' than a straight-up freeze.

So I guess the goal is to make it through the next couple of weeks and when Dec 26 comes along get back the airplay lost during the Christmas frenzy.  For people outside of the USA they must not get this Christmas music excess.  One station that we have on at work has about 50-75% Christmas stuff on now but they still play Hello.  Today we heard Taylor Swift's Out of the Woods so I guess that will be a strong competitor for Adele in 2016.

Looks like Hello will go to #1 on the Billboard Dance Club Play chart.  It is the easiest chart to get a #1 so its kind of funny its one of the only charts Hello is not already #1 on.
