32. "Infinite Love" - Sara Evans ft. Todd Chrisley Peak: 3 (So far...) Total Points: 874 Certification: Platinum
This is such a good song! I was like, "WHO?" when I heard Sara was releasing a duet with Todd Chrisley. I was a little skeptical at first when I found out who he was. But I was excited nonetheless because of my undying infatuation with Sara Evans. Then when this song came out I was blown away!! Todd's voice is so strong, and blends so well with Sara's. Although let's be real, she is the professional vocalist here, and she is very appropriately allowed to carry the song. For me, it is her powerful vocals that make the entire song. I swear Sara's voice just gets better with every recording. Her timbre here is so light and dainty, yet unrelenting. The production gives her a perfect amount of reverb as well, allowing her voice to echo and fill up the empty spaces left by the production in the verses, but not be overwhelming. This song is at #3 and still climbing! Can it make it to #1???
Looking back, ain't it crazy that were here? Stronger than ever, and deeper every year.

31. "Think Of You" - Chris Young ft. Cassadee Pope Peak: 1 (1 week) Total Points: 892 Certification: Platinum
One of my favorite songs on the radio this past year! Chris Young sounds great, and Cassadee Pope is an even better addition! She is one of my favorite new artists, and I absolutely love her music. This song was a very welcome hit, because it gave her her very first #1. (And it'll probably be her only #1, let's be real...) I love how Chris Young sings the first verse in a lower register, and then the 3rd voice an octave higher. He has such a versatile voice!! Unfortunately this song is pretty boring production-wise. It got stale to me much quicker than it should have, and I think the biggest reason is the production. Chris Young thrives with a neo-traditional sound, and his modern production lately has been doing him no favors. Fortunately he turns that around with his next single, "Sober Saturday Night", which may or may not still be coming up ;)
We used to be the life of the party. We used to be the ones that they wished they were. But now it's like they don't know how to act; Maybe they're like me and they want us back.

30. "Church Bells" - Carrie Underwood Peak: 1 (1 week) Total Points: 896 Certification: Platinum
One of the most EPIC songs of 2016!! This one was not immediate for me like Carrie's songs usually are, but it has continued to grow on me literally every time I have heard it. The song tells such an awesome and well-crafted story, and Carrie sings the fire out of it! A lot of people have complained about it being overproduced, but honestly I think the production is perfect. The banjo lead-in is so epic, and then the drum beats/bass hits that happen over it are tasty. Then the wall-of-sound approach to the chorus really helps emphasize the tumultuous relationship that the song describes. The biggest disappointment from this song was the live video rather than an epic movie-style music video, but to be honest the live video is super well done, so at least there's that.
Everyone thought they were Ken and Barbie, But Ken was always getting way too drunk.

29. "You Look Like I Need A Drink" - Justin Moore Peak: 2 Total Points: 897 Certification: PlatinumOne of the most forgotten songs of 2016, but I honestly love it! This song is exactly the type of lyrical hook that is sorely missing in music these days. I just love the lyrics to this!!! Justin has never been my favorite vocalist, but he sounds pretty good on this song. Literally the only thing wrong with this song is that country radio held onto it for SO LONG that I just didn't know when to let it go on my chart. It climbed all the way to #2 for me, but I was so sick of it I could not imagine it making it to #1, so I finally dropped it. And then it still stuck around on country radio for like 4 months after that!! So overplay was a huge issue. But all of that aside, this is an awesome song, and if Justin releases songs like this I will have no problem supporting him in the future.I think I know why you won't sit down. You're just dancing around what you came here to do but you're scared to. And all I can think, the way you're looking at me, You look like I need a drink.

28. "Breakaway" - Celine Dion Peak: 1 (1 week) Total Points: 906 Certification: 2xPlatinum
Ironically enough, on my chart full of country music, Celine Dion is the one leading the charge into the 2xPlatinum club!!! This song is also like super old to be charting in 2016, but who gives a fuck. Celine is one of the best vocalists this world has ever known, and when I heard this song, I wanted to chart it dammit! This song is just incredible every way you look at it. Celine's vocal is super unusual for her, but it sounds absolutely haunting. The repeated "go and lay my body down" parts are especially amazing. I am continuously blown away by this lady's talent. To this day she is the only pop singer to have a successful run on my chart, and I would be shocked if she doesn't do it again one of these days!
And if I really wanna change, Then tonight I'm gonna need all of my strength.
If I could break away, Cut the cord for worse or better. If I could turn the page At last, and say goodbye forever. But on the other side of yesterday Beyond the heartache, What if all I am without the pain Is empty hearted?

27. "Head Over Boots" - Jon Pardi Peak: 1 (1 week) Total Points: 910 Certification: 2xPlatinum
This song was such a surprise for me this year. I was not expecting to fall for a Jon Pardi song so quickly. Not really due to any fault on his part, but because of my automatic hesitance to accept new artists. This song was special though. The first thing that caught my attention is the shuffle style. You never hear songs with a beat like this anymore! It is a perfect 2-step song, which you just do not find in country music these days. Throw in the fiddle and steel guitar, and this song is just all-around a perfect throwback. I'm still not sold on Jon Pardi as a vocalist, but if he continues down this traditional path (which he seems to be doing!) I will look forward to see what else he releases going into the future! His new single "Dirt On My Boots" is on my chart now, but it hasn't fully connected yet.
The way you sparkle like a diamond ring, Maybe one day we can make it a thing. Test time and grow old together, Rock in our chairs and talk about the weather, yeah.

26. "I Am Invincible" - Cassadee Pope Peak: 1 (1 week) Total Points: 910 Certification: 2xPlatinum
I feel like I am the only person in the world who likes this song, which is very unfortunate. I think this song is super good! Cassadee definitely does not disappoint vocally. The first thing I noticed is how strong her voice sounds during the "I will fight, I will survive parts", which are kinda low for her. Her low range has consistently been her biggest weakness as a vocalist thus far, so it really stuck out to me that progress was made. But of course she still reaches for the high notes too! This song has some of the most epic high notes she has ever hit! Over time I have decided that her voice sounds pretty thin on the high notes in the 3rd chorus, but I think that is more due to the production than to her actual vocal quality. This song is such a jam for me! The only thing I don't like about it is the cheesy "For my girls. The fighters, the warriors" part during the intro music.
Cracks run through these walls, but they still stand strong. Oh, heart covered in scars, but my fear is gone. Oh I will fight, I will survive.

25. "It Was Love" - George Strait Peak: 1 (1 week) Total Points: 911 Certification: 2xPlatinumOne of the catchiest songs on King George's new album! I so wish this song had been a single instead of the boring "Let It Go", "Cold Beer Conversation", and "Goin' Goin' Gone". I will admit that the chorus melody is a little bit monotonous at first, but after a couple listens there is just something about it that grabs you and pulls you in! Maybe it's the fact that this is a song about a perfect romance that literally everyone wants to have. Even at 64 years old, George Strait is not too old to sing about high school love like this. It sounds earnest and believable coming from him. I love the fact that his voice is still this good considering his age too. This man is like a fine wine! This is the last George Strait appearance on the countdown, but look for George to have a HUGE 2017 on my chart. With all his aforementioned boring singles out of the way in 2016, and no new music in sight, I will now start charting all of the incredible songs on his latest album that did not get to be singles!!! We reigned like the king and the queen of the land. Everyone wanted some of what we had then. Yeah, we were the ones they all talked about, Like we were the fire that would never go out.

24. "Undone" - Joe Nichols Peak: 5 Total Points: 928 Certification: 2xPlatinum
Joe Nichols makes a second appearance on the countdown with his most recent single. "Undone" was a song that immediately grabbed me when I first heard it. Some artists have a knack for finding a happy medium between modern and traditional, and Joe Nichols is one of the prime examples of this. This song does not exactly break new ground lyrically, but the lyrics are very descriptive in a sexy yet clean way, and I really like it. I was appalled the first time I heard the "You know how to make me come" lyric, but the fact that the word "Undone" comes next and is intended to finish the sentence makes it better. I wish Joe didn't leave such a space between those words, because it definitely sounds dirtier than he probably intended it to! Lol! Or else it was completely intentional... Who knows. This song is also super strong melodically. In my opinion it is vastly superior to his earlier hit, "Freaks Like Me".
Undone, like the buttons on your shirt. Undone, showing every single curve. I want you so bad, baby. You know how to make me come undone.

23. "Sober Saturday Night" - Chris Young ft. Vince Gill (supposedly) Peak: 2 (So far...) Total Points: 929 Certification: 2xPlatinum
This is the type of song that Chris Young absolutely knocks out of the park! You can feel the heartache in his voice all throughout the song. I especially love the use of "terrible" and "miserable" in the first verse. Chris also reaches for high notes in this song like only he can. His range is quite possibly the most amazing of all the popular male country artists. Dudes whose voices are naturally low baritones like Chris just don't normally feel comfortable reaching for the high notes the way he does. Yeah, many of them COULD do it, but they just don't the way that Chris consistently does. The production of this song is also much better than the previously posted "Think Of You". THIS is the direction that Chris needs to be taking as an artist! I know he doesn't want to be pigeon-holed into being a "ballad guy", but finding uptempos that are as high-quality as his ballads would be a great way to avoid that.
I feel terrible. Sunlight's hurting my eyes. So I pull the shades and I make my place as black as night. I feel miserable, and I'm missing you and me. Another Sunday morning all alone underneath these sheets.

22. "Daddy's Money" - Brooke Eden Peak: 2 Total Points: 945 Certification: 2xPlatinum
Brooke Eden comes in at #22 with her sassy hit from earlier this year, "Daddy's Money". This song just missed out on #1 back in late May when she got stuck behind Maren Morris' multi-week smash "My Church". Brooke continuously impresses me with her vocals. Her voice is just SO powerful, and constantly oozes soul and personality. Her wall-of-sound production tends to get in the way a lot, but in this song it totally works. "Daddy's Money" took a little bit of time to grow on me, but ultimately Brooke's voice won me over. The song offers nothing much in terms of lyrics, but it is still a fun song.
I ain't takin, I'm makin' my livin'. What's mine is mine; it ain't ever been given. I got it all honey, But I ain't ever had daddy's money, no.

21. "Can't Stop Loving You" - Sara Evans ft. Isaac Slade Peak: 1 (1 week) Total Points: 948 Certification: 2xPlatinumSara Evans just barely misses out on the top 20 with her biggest smash of the year, "Can't Stop Loving You". This song is a duet with Isaac Slade, the lead singer of The Fray, (chicken077 you might find that to be pretty interesting! Lol). Their voices actually work very well together! I particularly love the way Sara's voice sounds on the opening lines of this song. Something about the way her vocals are produced is so polished and modern, but then she says "I try to smother out the embers but I just cain't quit", which totally betrays her country twang. I love that part The chorus may be a little bit repetitive lyrically and melodically, but the verses are consistently amazing throughout the whole song. And the chorus is definitely nowhere near boring despite its repetitiveness. It manages to constantly build throughout the song. Isaac Slade almost feels like an unnecessary addition to the song, because once again Sara is the one who truly shines. But I definitely don't complain about his presence. I just wish this could have been a single on country radio!I try to crush it like the ashes of a cigarette. I try to smother out the embers, but I just can't quit. If there's a way to put it out, I haven't found it yet. Haven't found it yet.
Alrighty, 15 songs to check out tonight!! I've gotta finish this before 2017 ends!! Lol ;) chicken077 , castleoblivion26 , trustypepper , .indulgecountry , Leo ✔ , d3vin44 , someguy , gardyfan , codyj100 , Kanenrá:ke , g8erboi , raylatch98 Any thoughts/predictions now that we are down to the top 20?? 20. "Record Year" - Eric Church Peak: 1 (1 week) Total Points: 950 Certification: 2xPlatinum
Eric Church smashed this song out of the park! Literally everything about this song is wonderful. The first thing I enjoyed about it was its overall brevity. It reminds me of '90s smashes such as "Blue Clear Sky" in that regard. The song is short enough to leave you wanting more, which helped prevent me from getting sick of it when it was on the charts. But my radio is super scratchy where I live, so I fell in love with it even more once I listened to it voluntarily on Spotify on my headphones. I noticed that one part going into the 2nd chorus where the bass has that really cool buzzy effect. It's almost like the strings were allowed to buzz against the frets, but I think it was caused by some kind of effects pedal. Either way, it is freaking bad ass, and I cannot help but turn that part up! Glad to see this song kicking off the top 20 :)
Your leavin' left me goin' crazy. I'm countin' on a needle to save me. I drop it in the groove, And we go 'round and 'round And down in a spiral.

19. "Beautiful Stranger" - Toby Keith Peak: 1 (1 week) Total Points: 962 Certification: 2xPlatinum
This song was the last thing I expected from Toby Keith at this point in his career. At a time where his music is starting to grow stale and boring for me, this song stands head and shoulders above its peers. I love it! Toby's voice is still as strong as ever, and the occasional songs like this that show it off have always been his biggest asset in my opinion. Melodically this song is great, and lyrically it has just the right amount of steam to pique your interest. Toby's vocal deftly reveals the sense of regret the narrator feels at letting the world so frequently come between him and his lover. A passionate, emotional performance is exactly what I have been wanting from Toby, so this song was an easy sell for me. Unfortunately I played it so much that I kinda got sick of it after awhile, but it is still an awesome song. If only Toby would release quality music like this more often these days!
You give in, and the night begins with the red wine kiss. I whisper something crazy about your shoes. You hush me and you crush me with your fingertips. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen this side of you.

18. "Just Add Water" - Terri Clark Peak: 1 (1 week) Total Points: 970 Certification: 2xPlatinum
The closest thing to a classic Terri Clark song that Terri Clark has released in years! She has always had a knack for finding earworms with clever hooks, and this song is perfect for her. The lyrics are simple, the melody is infectious, the production is awesome, and the whole song is just plain FUN. I love everything about it! Definitely the biggest missed single opportunity on her newest album. I still have yet to get tired of this one, and I have played it into the ground the last couple years! I just can't help but love Terri Clark when she releases songs like this.
Whatever puts a smile on your face, Find your happy place And just add water.

17. "80s Mercedes" - Maren Morris Peak: 1 (3 week) (So far...) Total Points: 981 Certification: 2xPlatinumOne of the most immediate hits of 2016 for me. I loved everything about it from the very first time I heard it. I bought Maren's debut album on the strength of "My Church", and "80s Mercedes" was instantly one of my favorites on the album. The vocals are incredible, the melody is awesome, and I especially love the piano/synthesizer combo that starts the song and then continuously drives the production forwards. This song also has the distinction of being the current #1 on my chart. It has held that lofty position for 3 weeks, matching huge hits like "Heartbeat" in the process! It will be interesting to see if this can hold onto #1 as we enter the new year. Either way, the chart run is not done yet, on my chart or country radio, so the song will still gain points, and then I haven't even added the favorites points to the total yet, so this is definitely going to be a top 10 contender in 2017!!! Call me old school but hey, I'm a 90's baby In my 80's Mercedes.

16. "Jesus And Jones" - Trace Adkins Peak: 1 (1 week) Total Points: 993 Certification: 2xPlatinumSurprise! This song that I am sure literally everybody forgot about except for me made my top 20. "Jesus And Jones" is not special in any particular way, but something about it is just so dang catchy to me! I think my favorite part about it is Trace's vocal performance. He has an almost lethargic drawl to his voice throughout this song that for some reason fits it perfectly and elevates it to awesomeness despite its average lyrics and melody. I also enjoy the production, and how it is so guitar-heavy. I honestly love this song so much that I cannot even consider it to be a guilty pleasure because it is just too good for me to feel guilty about it!! Trace has always been hit or miss for me, but this one was a definite hit.Trying to live like my heroes did Is the hardest kind of livin’ there is. Been a tug o’ war since I was a kid between Jesus and Jones.

15. "Heartbeat" - Carrie Underwood Peak: 1 (3 week) Total Points: 1002 Certification: 2xPlatinumUnder the capable auspices of Carrie Underwood, we reach 2 milestones. First, we enter the top 15. Second, we enter the 1000+ club!!!! I am honestly shocked this song did not accumulate enough points to make the top 10. Or, moreover, that there were 14 songs that were able to accumulate more points than this one... Because this is by far one of my very favorite songs of the year! I think it's biggest problem points-wise is that I gave it a relatively fast chart run, so it had less weeks to accumulate points than some of the upcoming songs. But the important thing is, I think this song is perfect in every way! I love absolutely everything about it, especially the vocal performance and production. Carrie's vocal approach is very unique, with the laid-back, behind-the-beat feel that she incorporates into the verses. Throw in the sneaky dobro and steel guitar buried in the production, and I am pretty much in heaven Tonight I wanna drive so far We'll only find static on the radio. And we can't see those city lights, And I love the way you look in a firefly glow. Saying everything without making a sound, A cricket choir in the background, underneath a harvest moon, Standing on your shoes in my bare feet, Dancing to the rhythm of your heartbeat.

14. "Unlove You" - Jennifer Nettles Peak: 3 Total Points: 1025 Certification: 2xPlatinum
One of the most criminally underrated songs of the past year. I am surprised to see it come in so high on the countdown considering the fact that it only peaked at #3, beating a 3-week #1 like "Heartbeat" in the process, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised because this song was on the chart FOREVER. It had a looooong slow rise on my chart, because it had a loooooooong slow rise on country radio and I had no idea when to let it go. Jennifer is one of the most underrated vocalists in country music though, so I definitely do not mind seeing her so high. She sings the fire out of this song, and manages to elevate an otherwise boring song into something spectacular! It's still not something I want to listen to very often, but when I do listen to it I am always super impressed.
If I were 25 I know just what I'd do. I would have already kissed 'Til I was drunk on your lips A thousand times too few.

13. "My Church" - Maren Morris Peak: 1 (2 weeks) Total Points: 1046 Certification: 2xPlatinum
Maren Morris makes her second appearance on the countdown, placing just outside the top 10 with her breakthrough smash debut, "My Church". This song definitely belongs among my favorites from the past year. Maren has all the makings of the next big superstar. Her music is catchy, her voice is pleasant and oozing with talent, she has critical acclaim, and radio seems willing to embrace her. If she doesn't hit it big in 2017, I am going to be madder than a midget in a yoyo contest. The amazing thing is, "My Church" is not even among my favorites on her debut album! "80s Mercedes" placed lower on this countdown because it is not completely done with its chart run yet, but it is on track to completely obliterate this one by like a few hundred points... And there are several songs I want to chart from her debut album still. Yep, she needs to become a huge superstar, that's all there is to it.
I've fallen down from grace A few too many times, But I find holy redemption When I put this car in drive, Roll the windows down, and turn up the dial.

12. "Beautiful Drug" - Zac Brown Band Peak: 1 (1 week) Total Points: 1074 Certification: 2xPlatinum
GUILTY!!! This song is easily one of my favorite songs of the past year Something about the melody and production is just super catchy to me. The lyrics are nothing special, but as a whole the song still manages to win me over. I was super intrigued when Zac Brown Band released their latest album because of the supposed experimentation that they did with genres. I bought the album, and was fully expecting to hear some diverse stuff that was still GOOD because they are all killer musicians, and this song was the first one on the album. Let's just say, it did not disappoint! I loved everything about it immediately, and it became one of my favorites on the album. I was shocked when it got released to country radio though. But while I would normally view such a blatantly non-country song being played on country radio with vitriol, I didn't mind at all because I already loved the song so much. It was just an excuse for me to hear the song more!
Going out of my mind Staring at you. Burning up in your fire that I've fallen into. Got a death wish baby, baby. Don't want you to save me, save me Tonight.

11. "By The Way" - Lindsay Ell Peak: 1 (1 week) Total Points: 1078 Certification: 2xPlatinumLindsay Ell is one of my favorite up-and-comers in the genre. Between her awesome voice and her epic guitar skills, she is the full package! Plus she just has such a strong personality, and so far has proven to be a positive moral example. Not to mention that she is hot as hell ) I would love to see her find success in the music industry. So when she released this catchy little ditty, I embraced it immediately! I thought this would be the song that broke her through on country radio. Unfortunately I was wrong about that, but that doesn't make me love it any less. The banjo driving the production is so tasty, and the whole song just has such a lighthearted feel as she shrugs off heartache in favor of the positive emotions that a new guy is able to make her feel. Hopefully 2017 brings us new music from Lindsay!Thank you Mr. Baseball Cap For standing me up. You left me at the party all alone, And that's where I met Mr. Pickup Truck.

Alright friends, it is finally time to delve into the top 10!!!!!!! Every single one of these upcoming songs meant quite a lot to me this past year. There was some excellent music in 2016, and the forthcoming songs represent the cream of the crop, in my opinion!! (Well, we've been in the cream since like the top 40. But now we're getting to the very best of the cream! Haha you know what I mean). Without further ado, here's #10!

10. "Just Around The Corner" - Martina McBride Peak: 5 (So far...) Total Points: 1083 Certification: 2xPlatinum
Say helllloooooooo to my queen Thanks to the top 5 points she earned in the last week of the year, Martina McBride managed to crack the top 10 with her current single, "Just Around The Corner". This song is very unique, and I cannot help but find new things to love about it every time I listen to it. First of all, it is either in 12/8 time or 4/4 with a constant triplet feel, but it is unusually fast to have that kind of feel for a country song. Her voice also seems a little lower than normal in the verses, but that may just be her owning her age. Either way, by the time we get to the bridge we start hearing more of the high notes that we have come to expect from Martina. And the bridge is without a doubt my favorite part of the song!! When she launches into the "Yeah, yeah, yeah" part right after the 2nd chorus, her voice is crystal clear. Her vibrato seems different on the 2nd and 3rd "yeah"s. The closest person I can compare it to is Sara Evans. For some reason it just sounds really fast and subtle, like Sara's does. This continues throughout the whole bridge, on "clouds", "now but", "there", "up", "front of", etc.. It is so unique and I just LOVE it.
The weight that you've been holding, The faith that's been broken, Ain't broken any longer, And you'll be stronger Just around the corner.
