You can now buy "Love Can Go To Hell." This is great. I love that this sounds nothing like the version Ashley Gearing recently cut and released to secondary radio. Two very different takes of the same tune, and both are excellent. I like the more lively tempo and production of this rendition, but Ashley Gearing's vocal performance on her ballad version is pretty damn killer.

Once again, this song is "On the Horizon" on Sirius.

Brandy's first top 40 hit as an artist, after 11 weeks on the Billboard chart (42-39* this week with a slight AI loss).

Dang, this song is amazing! Even better than "Stripes" for me, and I really loved that one. Brandy Clark is great. We need more like her in mainstream country music, for sure.

Wow. "Girl Next Door" has the highest dislike on Bullseye Callout, as well as the highest fatigue -- roughly 31% on both -- which means 1/3rd of the surveyed listeners don't like this one. Its neutral is really low too, which pretty much means this one is a "love it" or "hate it" type track on that research service.
Despite the poor research on that call-out, I think Warner's done a very good job promoting this one to radio. Its gained over 100 spins and 1.2 million in Mediabase audience the past three weeks -- sitting at #40 on Billboard and #42 on the rolling chart; given the high competition in 2016, that's really noteworthy, especially for a new female artist to mainstream radio. I don't think this song will make the top 20 and top 30 is a real stretch unless this research improves. Its not high enough to register on the Mediabase call-out.

Just heard this on Pandora. I can definitely hear the parallels to Kacey Musgraves.

Its neutral is really low too, which pretty much means this one is a "love it" or "hate it" type track on that research service. I've known about the research for a while now, and I'm honestly not surprised at all. Brandy's music isn't the kind of music that's gonna appeal to most mainstream country radio listeners. I expect her album to sell better than quite a few recent albums from new male artists (who've had radio hits), though. Brandy's fans are the kind of country fans that radio isn't catering to. It's the same with Kacey Musgraves and Sturgill Simpson (mostly his first 2 albums). There are a lot of people that like the old-school country sound, and artists like Musgraves, Simpson, and Clark will sell a lot more albums than guys like Canaan Smith and Granger Smith (lol, two Smiths), but the people that like their kind of music aren't getting surveyed by any of the callout services. In short, a lot of radio listeners aren't gonna like Brandy, they wouldn't like Sturgill, and quite a few of them already don't like Kacey, but yet those artists have more fans than a lot of the new male artists that are able to get airplay.

Since country radio won't give her the airplay she deserves at least folks such as myself will continue to immensely enjoy playing the heck out of her scintillating CD.

I never listened to her first album 12 Stories but this song is pretty good and I honestly think we are heading towards having a female resurgence in country music. I don't know if we will ever get back to the dominance of the 90's and before when we had multiple sole female acts in the top 10 but we are getting close.

I do wonder how much longer "Girl Next Door" will last. Since this has now gone two weeks without a bullet, I do think the end is near as Brandy has poor research and I just can't imagine radio supporting this much longer.
I heard this for the first time a couple of nights ago on "Kickin' It With Kix" (hosted by Kix Brooks) after an interview with Brandy and she seemed like one of the most humble and nice people in country music.

They got 8 new adds this week, so they'll push it as long as possible.

I do think this'll rebullet but I have a feeling this song along with Jordan Rager are nearing the end soon. But getting 8 adds certainly helps but I see this lasting a month at the most.

Did they shorten the song? That sucks. She sounded great though.

Did they shorten the song? That sucks. She sounded great though. Appears so, but I don't think this is the first time I've seen that with this particular talk show, so it may just be a thing that particular program does. I don't know that with 100% certainty though.

I'm not sure it's the sound. The lyrics are fairly polarizing and can come across to a significant degree as a putdown of women who may not see themselves in the way the singer is describing herself. The song sets up one of those phony comparisons that you are (supposedly) either trashy and real, or fake and a barbie / girl next door. The video in particular goes in a pretty offensive direction with the woman shown in chains as if these days vast numbers of women are all bound to housewife duties a la the 1940s unless we fall into the trashy category which is honored in the song. And the video is a bit dissonant when supposedly Brandy is messy and real but she is nicely made up with a fine hair style lol.
THere is a lot I like in this song, but there's plenty that is off-putting hearing it over the radio including the retro-feminism aspect. It sounds like Betty Friedan singing country in 1965. Just my two cents.

I don't know that with 100% certainty though. They used to have a 2 minute limit for performances, but that was back in the Regis & Kathie Lee days. I imagine it still could be similar though.

"Girl Next Door" got 9 more adds this week, which gives Brandy 17 adds over the past two Mondays.

Brandy Clark admitted on Taste Of Country Nights, that her three dream collaborations would be her with either Eric Church, Jamey Johnson and Kacey Musgraves. She also said if she had a duet with Kacey she'd want the song too be really meaningful and deep! Brandy has great taste in music in general, and she keeps it country so consider myself a fan. Also sabre14 you noted that this got 17 adds the past week, yet, almoat all this week has been negative for "Girl Next Door". That doesn't make any sense.

Most of them were Cumulus and the spins have been extremely minimal. 17 adds are still great but the stations that have already been spinning Brandy's song have to convert it for it to go further than what it's already done (top 40).

I think "Girl Next Door" might be about done now for real. Brandy has lost close to 200k in audience since the beginning of the Billboard week, in fact Brandy has lost close to 300k in audience the past month, so Brandy hasn't really been moving all that much. It's also really important to note that Brandy has to rebullet on BB as she just hit 20 weeks and lost her bullet last week.
With this song down to #42 on BB, and also at #37 on MB as of today (factoring out recurrents) and being in that range for about a month now. Brandy probably won't last a whole lot longer on the charts.

Shame that this one is done and that it only just scraped the Top 40... though OTOH, I think this one making the Top 40 at all is still a pretty good accomplishment given Brandy Clark's country radio star-power (or lackthereof) and the fact that it sold pretty poorly. I can't wait to see what they release to radio next though (assuming that they try with another single, which I definitely would like to see them do but who knows).

I can't wait to see what they release to radio next though (assuming that they try with another single, which I definitely would like to see them do but who knows). I agree with all of this. On one hand, I'm disappointed that this barely scraped the top 40. But, on the other hand, it hung on for a very long time, and I wouldn't have though Brandy would have had a top 40 hit even 6 months ago. So that's something, I guess. If they try another radio single, I'm not sure what it should be. Some of the ballads, particularly "Homecoming Queen", "Three Kids No Husband", "You Can Come Over" and "Since You've Gone To Heaven" are phenomenal, but I can't really see 2016 country radio touching any of them. "Broke" is by no means my favourite track from the album, but it's a good song, and I wonder if it would be the most radio friendly and best chance at some more airplay.

Sad it's done but as you guys are I'm happy for a top 40 placement.
As for second single I personally want "Love Can Go To Hell" but I think the best choice is "Broke". Really any of these songs would've been hits about 10 years ago but they're all going to struggle at this time. At least they put out the worst song first and now they can only go up in quality! (And I loved "Girl Next Door").
"Since You've Gone To Heaven" would win song of the year awards if released though so maybe put that out and work the awards circuit next year. Especially the Grammys

I don't see "Girl Next Door" re-entering and breaking out for a top 30 peak or anything but the label still might try and hang in there for another week or two to re-enter the Billboard chart and keep it afloat on Mediabase. We'll know more in the next 2-3 days. It's all but done though, I agree.

Especially the Grammys I love both songs (LCGTH and Broke) but I disagree about them being hits 10 years ago. Maybe for a different artist, but not Brandy. Country radio is still very hesitant of playing an LGBT artist and 10 years ago it was even worse.

I'm so thrilled I got to hear this on the radio once lol. This is an excellent song and should have done much better. I'm not surprised it didn't, though.
