Surprised no one has started this yet. I just listened to the album all the way and all I have to say is wow that was good. The production is very fresh and contemporary but lyrically Chris is good as always. Lots of love songs on the album but that's Chris's style and it works well for him. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the production by the way I think it sounds great. He didn't completely abandon the steal either as there are some nice touches of it on "Sober Saturday Night". By the way Vince Gills backup vocals sound great. For you musical folks that diminished chord in the last chorus was excellent haha.
As for potential singles I'm with everyone else and I think they'll go with "Think of You". That has hit written all over it plus I don't think Chris has ever released a single that's a duet with a female. Come to think of it I don't think any of his singles have been a duet. I've noticed that recently that male artists have been doing more duets and releasing them as singles. It's definitely a trend. Almost guarantees you a hit.
After that I could see "Alone Tonight" or "You Do The Talkin". My wishful thinking hopes for "Sober Saturday Night" but it's probably "too country" for radio. Maybe Mr. Stapleton can change that :) .
With all of the songs with Alone, Tonight, or both words, (referring to Blake and Luke), this one is by far my favorite. It uses a very common chord progression but it's a catchy song that's got a good hook.
I think they'll be able to pump 4 singles out of this era assuming the trend continues for how quick I'm Comin' Over moved up the charts compared to his last singles.
Realistically I think the next singles will be Think Of You, You Do The Talkin', and to close out the album with Sober Saturday Night. That kind of contradicts what I said earlier but I feel like you got to close out album eras with a bang and that song would do that.
Overall very solid album! I think this album could potentially get him to A-lister status.

This is good, but it's nothing like his first 2/3 albums. "Alone Tonight"....props for originality there....never heard a song with lyrics like that before. *rolls eyes*
I Know a Guy is the best song he's recorded since Neon. Sober Saturday Night (yes, that diminished chord at the end is GREAT) and What if I Stay are also strong. It's better than A.M. but I just wish he had more stuff like /Neon/It Takes a Man/Drinkin Me Lonely, and less Alone Tonight/Heartbeat/Sunshine Overtime.

This literally just sounds like a continuation of A.M. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but I don't see the artistic growth I've been hearing about. This is simply an album full of potential safe radio hits that won't offend anybody minus a few tracks ("I Know A Guy" and "Sober Saturday Night"). Pretty disappointing honestly. As for singles, they can pretty much release anything. I hope they release "I Know A Guy" and "What If I Stay" at some point.

I've only previewed this album, and so I don't have a clear, formulated opinion on this yet. However, I will say that based on those previews that there's really nothing here that excited me, save for a few tracks. "Sober Saturday Night" was the only track that made me stop and go "wow". I agree with what dm2081 said, it isn't bad by any means, but by that same token it doesn't exactly sound good either. Again, this is only an opinion based off of previews, but this sounds like a disappointment to my ears.

Somewhat like Brett Eldredge. Immensely talented, we know what he's capable of (in Young's case, the songs I mentioned above, and in Brett's case, Signs/Raymond) but we end up getting mostly vanilla material.

I have had a chance to listen to the album twice through and then I went back and listened to a select few. I have to say this album is good. But, only that. I had higher expectations for this album. I agree with dm2081 that this album sounds like a continuation of A.M. I really liked A.M. as well, but I was hoping for much more with this new album. That being said there are standout songs on here that will never see the light of day at country radio. Great:- "I Know A Guy"
- "Sober Saturday Night" (featuring Vince Gill)
- "What If I Stay"
Okay:
- "Think Of You" (Duet with Cassadee Pope)
- "You Do The Talkin'"
- "Sunshine Overtime"
- "Callin' My Name"
- "I'm Comin' Over"
Horrible:
- "Heartbeat" (what a lackluster way to start off the album, IMHO).
- "Underdogs"
- "Alone Tonight"
Overall, I was expecting MUCH more from this album. If we could have just had a few more songs like the three under my 'Great' category than it would be miles better. I do not dislike this album, but I am rather disappointed.

Another thing. I can barely hear Vince Gill in Sober Saturday Night. Anyone else feel the same?

really disappointed in this. One of the best male voices in the genre and he records songs that do nothing to showcase that talented voice. Mostly just a bunch of average songs imo

The more I listen to the album, the Cassadee Pope duet is growing on me. I hope that they chose "Think Of You" as the next single. It's sonically similar to "I'm Comin' Over." Plus, the radio attention *might* give Cassadee an extra boost at radio - and I would say she is in need of it right now.
A question about the album packaging: Are the photos just stills from the "I'm Comin' Over" music video? Either they are very similar thematically to the video or they are directly from the video - which DRIVES ME NUTS!

I hope that they chose "Think Of You" as the next single. It is the next single. Scott Borchetta announced it was the follow-up at the CMT Next Women of Country event about two weeks ago.

Great "I Know A Guy" - sounds to me like a Travis Tritt song from his prime for some reason, "Sober Saturday Night" - that's called Country music. "What If I Stay" - little bluesy. "Think of You (feat. Cassadee Pope)" - just love this duet and the somewhat new story of a break-up. "I'm Comin' Over" - just really love this song.
Good "You Do the Talkin'" - actually didn't expect it to be the radio. "Alone Tonight" - Chris makes average better. "Underdogs" - pretty cool song. "Heartbeat" - much prefer this to Carrie's new single (don't hate me Carrie fans!!! lol) "Callin' My Name" - nothing special but I just love the guy's voice on all songs.
Average "Sunshine Overtime" - nothing bad, just average for what he can do.

Love 05 "I Know A Guy" 08 "Sober Saturday Night (feat. Vince Gill)"
Like 02 "I'm Comin' Over" 03 "Think Of You (with Cassadee Pope)" 04 "You Do The Talkin'" 11 "What If I Stay"
Meh 01 "Heartbeat" 06 "Alone Tonight" 07 "Sunshine Overtime" 09 "Underdogs" 10 "Callin' My Name"
A great voice can only get you so far. After the underwhelming A.M., Chris Young once again releases an album with many vanilla and uninspired songs. "Heartbeat", "Alone Tonight" and "Callin' My Name" find him settling into the overdone themes of country radio. "I'm Comin' Over","Think Of You", and "You Do The Talkin'", although far from perfect, show that Chris can be radio-friendly while still carving his own personality into his songs.
The clear bright spots in the album are "I Know A Guy" and "Sober Saturday Night", two songs that encapsulate what most of us have come to love about his music. Chris has shined in slower, more emotional songs his whole career ('Drinkin' Me Lonely", "Flowers", "The Dashboard", "The Shoebox", "It Takes A Man", "The Man I Want To Be" "Tomorrow", "Flashlight", "Goodbye", "Text Me Texas"). He needs to get back to singing the kind of songs that better suit his amazing voice. 2.5/5.0
Single Predictions 01 "I'm Comin' Over" 02 "Think Of You (with Cassadee Pope)" 03 "I Know A Guy" 04 "You Do The Talkin'"

damn this album is so damn bad we've lost Chris to the dark side of bro
there are only 2 good songs here
I Know A Guy & Sober Saturday Night
i do like the vocals of Think of You they play off each other nicely but i hate the production so badly that i can't stand it as a whole
I'm Comin' Over is ok i guess better than any other song i haven't mentioned here but that's not saying much
by far the worst song on here is the first "Heartbeat" this sounds so bad it musta been a FGL reject song
Album Rankings
1 Chris Young 2 Neon 3 The Man I Want To Be Hate both these horrible albums only had a few good tracks between them 4 A.M. 5 I'm Comin' Over

Personal opinions on Heartbeat aside, I would be completely shocked if it wasn't a single.

How disappointing......This isn't even worth a review. The only purely terribly song was "Underdogs", and the rest was generic and boring save for "Sober Saturday Night" and "I Know A Guy". I was expecting a lot more from Chris than this.

I too was pretty disappointed with this, and I'll add to the consensus: "Sober Saturday Night" and "I Know A Guy" are the only 2 tracks here that are legitimately good. Everything else was mostly forgettable. The Cassadee Pope duet isn't too bad either, I guess.
That said, the album is heading for pretty good numbers. Obviously it won't debut at the top of the Billboard 200, what with Bieber and One Direction releasing new albums this week, but Chris Young should take over the top spot on Top Country Albums from Chris Stapleton (still incredible numbers for Stapleton though).
From HITS:
*Justin Bieber (Def Jam) 470-490k Sales, 560-580k SPS *One Direction (SYCO/Columbia) 410-430k, 460-480k *Logic (Def Jam) 100-110k, 105-115k *Jeezy (Def Jam) 80-85k, 88-93k *Chris Young (Sony Nashville/RCA) 55-60k, 63-68k Chris Stapleton (Mercury Nashville) 30-35k, 52-57k *Trans-Siberian Orchestra (Lava/Republic) 30-35k, 32-37k Now 56 (NOW) 27-32k, 27-32k *Kirk Franklin (RCA) 27-32k, 29-34k Eric Church (EMI Nashville) 24-28k, 29-33k Pentatonix, That’s Christmas to Me (RCA) 23-27k, 25-29k *Alessia Cara (Def Jam) 18-22k, 26-30k Carrie Underwood (19/Arista Nashville) 16-19k, 21-24k
(first number is pure album sales, second number is sales + streaming)
A.M. debuted with 53,000 sold in September 2013.

I'm with the consensus on this album. Sober Saturday Night and I Know A Guy are both outstanding (particularly Sober Saturday Night, that's as good as anything Chris has recorded to date), but the rest of the album is thoroughly mediocre.

damn this album is so damn bad we've lost Chris to the dark side of bro Dramatic much? The album isn't quite what I'd hoped for, but it's not nearly as "bro" as A.M. (and A.M. only flirted with bro-ness in the first place, compared with the hardcore bros.) It's not his best, but it's decent, and a move back in the right direction. Glad it's selling well.

General opinion seems to think "Sober Saturday Night" is too country for radio, I disagree there. I think it'd be a pretty big hit if released.

I'm generally siding with Chris Young but this album is one of the biggest disappointments so far this year. Practically didn't like any song.. at all! Three tracks are better than average, but still...

Seeing the comments in here is making me nervous about listening to this. I put it on my Xmas list on the strength of the excellent lead single, the Cassadee Pope duet, and the promise of a Vince Gill-collaboration along with the fact that I love Chris Young's voice (one of my top 3 favorite male vocalists), but after not caring much for A.M. I'm becoming disheartened that he still hasn't bounced back from that...

I'm kind of surprised at all the negative reaction to this CD. I haven't really listened to it more than once through because I keep getting stuck on my favorites. I Know A Guy and Sober Saturday Night are awesome, as everyone has said. The lead single was good. I absolutely love the Cassadee duet and can't wait to hear it on the radio. I've listened to that a ton already and think it's great. The rest I listened through once and nothing stood out to me as bad, but I need to listen more.

This album is fantastic. I'm so glad to have the Chris Young I love back after disliking his last album so much. The first and second singles are his strongest 1-2 punch since "Gettin' You Home" and "The Man I Want to Be," easily. Both are just excellent and were the perfect singles to start off this era. My other standout favorites are "I Know a Guy" and "Sober Saturday Night," which are just absolutely Chris Young balladry at its best. It would literally be his most perfect era singles-wise for me yet if he released those two as the 3rd/4th from this record. As for the rest of the record, everything else is very solid and the uptempo tunes are far better examples of him making more radio-friendly music than what he did with A.M.. "You Do the Talkin'" is my favorite of those type of songs, so if he has to release one of them as a single (which I'm sure he will), then I hope it's that one. Also, the vocal performance on "What If I Stay" is just a total home run. Wow. It's everything that "She's Got This Thing About Her" tried to be (and failed) on his Neon album (one of my least-favorites songs of his ever). "Underdogs" is probably my least-favorite song on the record, and I even really like that one quite a bit. It's still better than probably at least 5 of the A.M. tracks.
