This is my top 5 albums of the year. Very good. I wasn't a fan of Visions.

The reviews for this (and a nagging friend) made me check it out. Wasn't a fan really, and apparently she isn't of half the album. That sort of "self-awareness" protects her criticisms if she made tracks like 'California' to be intentionally ugly, but at the same time it's still just that: ugly. I can get behind her taking shots at Pitchfork though, lol.
I think the album does too much, but it has a few good ideas. She's sort of playing with that early-2000s West Coast pop rock sound. Art Angels would've been much stronger if she straight up ripped it off. The most successful tracks, 'Flesh Without Blood', 'Artangels', and 'World Princess pt. II' play off of that more, but I kept 'REALiTi' and 'Venus Fly' too. The rest was boring to outright bad.

Love it, love it, love it. I didn't care for Visions but this is one of my favorite albums of the year. "Kill V Maim" is the standout for me. I saw her show on Monday and she killed it (despite having the flu and a boot on her right leg).

Great album. I enjoyed about half of Visions, but this should definitely be the word-of-mouth breakout album for Grimes."Flesh Without Blood," "Kill v. Maim," and "Venus Fly" are the standouts for me. I just missed her concert so I hope she hits the festival circuit this year.

Loving the album, it really gets going after a little meh opening. Kill v. Maim is pure bliss!
Shame that it's sort of flopping on charts. One week in top 40 is not what I expected based on her presence in social media and all the hype it gets.

This is one of the best albums that I have heard this year!
I'm not too disappointed or surprised by the sales. I know this was marketed as "Grimes goes pop," but I mean this is still Grimes and its not really pop. Its way more mainstream than some of her past stuff, but its still not mainstream.

Upon first few listens, I find this album to be so much less polished than Visions, a lot of the beats on this feel so forced. There's the occasional glimmers of past genius on tracks like Butterfly and Kill v. Maim tho. Majority of the tracks sound like they would be a soundtrack on a video game - quite shallow sounding and lacking the atmosphere of past work. Don't know if want.

Video was cool and had some nice scenes but, I kind of expected better for this jam? I think the directing let it down rather than the concepts.
In other news I ended up liking a lot more of the album after repeated listens. <3

New video for "California" out.
The video verson of the song is very different particularly at the beginning, still not enough to redeem it imo.
I wish my favorite artists wouldn't make videos for their worst songs. What about Venus Fly or Butterfly? :'(

She just bulk dropped music vids for Butterfly, Scream, Belly Of The Beat & World Princess Part II. Pretty cheaply done vids but at least it gives more of the album exposure. :)

Video for Venus Fly is out now. It looks pretty fucking cool imo. Some of the most interesting visuals I've seen in a video recently.
