Didn't see him mentioned, but didn't George Strait have few singles that didn't chart before Unwound? Seems like I've read that somewhere..That was before I was born so yea lol Yes, three. "I Just Can't Go On Dying Like This" "That Don't Change The Way I Feel About You" "I Don't Want To Talk It Over Anymore" None of them were on an album at the time though. They weren't heavily promoted and they were 2-3 years before "Unwound" was released on MCA Nashville.

So we actually know what they sound like, unlike a lot of pre-career singles by familiar artists!

Keith Urban qualifies if you count his two singles in The Ranch.

Keith Whitley "Turn Me to Love" (with Reba no less) #59
"A Hard Act to Follow" #76
"I've Got the Heart for You" #57
He finally broke out in 85 when he took "Miami, My Amy" to #14
I've thought about this a lot. Many of the legends of country music would have never made it if they were dropped after the first few flop singles like they are today. There wouldn't have been a George Jones, Hank Williams Sr, Willie Nelson , Waylon Jennings or Ronnie Milsap, or scores of others.
