Here's my predictions for this year's ACM Awards. I'm going with a couple upsets/surprises: Entertainer of the Year: Eric Church (I think this is finally his year) Male Vocalist of the Year: Chris Stapleton Female Vocalist of the Year: Carrie Underwood Vocal Group of the Year: Little Big Town Vocal Duo of the Year: FGL (hopefully Maddie & Tae make it more of a competition next year) Album of the Year: Traveller - Chris Stapleton Song of the Year: "Girl Crush" - Little Big Town Single of the Year: "Burning House" - Cam Vocal Event of the Year: "Raise 'Em Up" - Keith Urban featuring Eric Church Video of the Year: "Burning House" - Cam New Male Vocalist: Chris Stapleton New Female Vocalist: Cam New Vocal Duo: Maddie & Tae Would be easier for Church if he was actually touring this summer

It's always interesting to see which of the nominees get the most campaign ads (around the time of final voting) from the labels and groups that support them. So far I've seen advertising for Jason Aldean (Entertainer, Male Vocalist), Chris Young (in Monday's BCU there was an AEG Live ad noting his 4 nominations and the support from WME and Sony), Keith Urban (Vocal Event and Song of the Year for "Raise 'Em Up"), Eric Church (Entertainer, Male Vocalist, Album of the Year for Mr. Misunderstood, and Vocal Event and Song of the Year for "Raise 'Em Up"), Dierks Bentley (Male Vocalist, Video of the Year), Parmalee (New Group of the Year), Brett Eldredge (Male Vocalist and New Male Vocalist), Sam Hunt (Album of the Year for Montevallo, Single of the Year for "Take Your Time"), Chris Janson (New Male Vocalist, Single of the Year for "Buy Me A Boat"), Dan + Shay (Vocal Duo of the Year), Jana Kramer (Female Vocalist), Kelsea Ballerini (Female Vocalist and New Female Vocalist), and Cam (her ads make note of all 4 of her nominations).
I've also seen ads from Country Aircheck and on the Music Row website for Carrie Underwood (Female Vocalist), Rascal Flatts (Vocal Group of the Year), and Eric Paslay (Song of the Year for "She Don't Love You").
Aldean is really the only Entertainer nominee that I've seen ads for. I definitely haven't seen ads for Garth and Miranda, although it's possible that the lack of new music from them is why there haven't been any ads. Regarding Female Vocalist, again, I haven't seen any ads for Miranda, and none for Kacey Musgraves either (as noted above, there have been ads for Carrie, Kelsea, and Jana). Regarding Male Vocalist, I haven't seen any ads for Chris Stapleton lately, although he's still getting plenty of media buzz and he's also the most-nominated overall.
I haven't seen any advertising for Thomas Rhett, who has nominations in the New Male Vocalist category, the Single of the Year category (for "Die A Happy Man"), and the Album of the Year category (for Tangled Up). Out of the Vocal Group nominees, Rascal Flatts is really the only one that I've seen advertising for. Same goes for Duo of the Year...I've only seen ads for one nominee (Dan + Shay) so far.
The interesting thing is that I haven't really seen much (if any) advertising for the artists/songs that I think are favored to win. While I'd love to see Carrie win Female Vocalist (she's far and away the most deserving), I'm guessing WME will still push Miranda Lambert to a victory there. I think Chris Stapleton will win many of his categories (including Album of the Year), I think Little Big Town will win Group of the Year, I think Florida Georgia Line will win Duo of the Year (although I wouldn't be surprised to see Joey + Rory snag it either), and I think "Girl Crush" will probably win the Single and Song categories.
Although perhaps it isn't interesting that I haven't seen advertising for the artists that I think are favored to win. After all, it only makes sense for the artists who are underdogs to put out advertising to try to sway voters to vote for them. I'm certainly not saying that none of the advertised artists can win and that all of the categories will be won by artists who didn't have any advertising...rather, I'm simply pointing out the advertising I've seen. It's something that may or may not be interesting :)

It would be really interesting what voters do with Joey + Rory. Imagine the emotion if they won and Rory Feek went on stage to accept the award on behalf of his wife. I'm not sure if voters let emotions get involved in those types of things, but if it did, this could be a good case to study.

Now that I have Chris and Tim confirmed, just need a Maddie + Tae performance and all will be well with the world. Also, dajross6 I expect Joey & Rory to win Duo of the Year, which may come as a shock to some. Maybe I shouldn't be as confident but they made such an impact with their blog and positive outlook, and their album has sold VERY well around the time people were voting so there is actual merit to them receiving the award. Been wrong before, but I will put it this way. If you get a tribute to Joey prior to the Duo award being announced, they are not winning. If there is no tribute, they will win. Just my personal opinion.

I'd love to see Maddie and Tae do a full length performance. I hope Luke does "Huntin' and Fishin'".
I was hoping Brad would debut a new song but maybe not...

Hmm, other than Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney, who are very much still current popular artists, there really aren't any "veteran" performers yet... Usually it seems they try to throw a bone to at least one veteran artist. I could see Reba or George Strait, if either of them decide to premiere a new single. Or I guess Loretta Lynn, but that would be really surprising! Of course, Martina is probably the most obvious choice. "Reckless" is still basically a brand new song, and an ACM performance might boost the song's digital presence a bit (and build some hype for her new album on April 29th!!! ) And, I would LOVE to see Maddie & Tae perform too. That would be a perfect addition to the lineup! And it just might give "Shut Up And Fish" the boost it needs to pick up steam and move towards the top 10.

Not really THAT surprising for a couple reasons (about Loretta), I think. First, she has new music out for the first time in ten years, I could very well see the ACMs figuring out some kind of collaborative thing including Loretta. Second, she's Loretta Lynn... She's literally one of the oldest living legends left of the genre... They'd be foolish to deny her the opportunity to perform new music. They could also use her performance to promote the TV special they're airing later; which is being headlined by Carrie Underwood and featuring a bunch of country women. I have to imagine they'd at least be interested in having Loretta involved with that? God, I'd hope so!

One vote for Loretta Lynn to perform a track from her new album!!! Yes, the only thing though is it might be difficult for her to get Vegas, but it'd be great. Honestly, just an all legend show. George Strait, Reba, Alan Jackson, Brooks and Dunn, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, The Judds, Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson, etc.... Just all of them, that's it.

Maybe, but she's been all over the country promoting the album so I don't think travel is too much of an issue for her. I know for a while it was because her health was in question, but she seems pretty healthy as of late.

But honestly, if she got a performance slot, I would definitely consider myself surprised Lol. Just like I would be shocked if they decided to give a solo performance slot to Willie Nelson. Or Bill Anderson. Or Connie Smith. They are legends, but in a way they are almost TOO legendary to have a place in modern awards shows. I'm not saying that is the way it should be, but it is kinda the way that it is. Of course, any of those veterans might be invited to take place in some kind of collaboration. Which I agree would be very nice :) But I just don't see any of them ever getting a solo performance at the ACMs or CMAs anymore. I think a solo performance would go to "veteran" artists who are still a little bit relevant, like George, Reba, Martina, Lee Ann, etc.

I decided to skip the ACM's and watch opening night baseball. I figured why listen to singers/songs that I hear on the radio all the time. If I remember correctly the first hour last yr was all performances. It just not worth 3 hours like it used to b when I was younger.

Katy Perry - Dolly Parton duet added. Wow!! :O That'd be one of the last guesses I would have had. Also am I the only one that's annoyed by the fact that non-country performers perform at these country music award shows, it just annoys me for some reason I can't explain.

I usually try not to comment on things like this but I can't help it this time. Hopefully it doesn't cause problems or blow up in my face. This is simply my opinion and nothing else. Honestly I can understand why Katy is dueting with Dolly (ratings, etc ) but at the same time I can't help but to give a judgemental look at the ACM's. Why? Because they are honoring the movie 'Coat of Many Colors' on the award show and one of the main actresses is a country singer who has won several major awards on the show (songwriter/single/duo/new artist, etc). I guess I would have loved to see Jennifer do something with Dolly since she played a big part in the movie that is being honor. Heck, I would have taken any female country artist more or less to sing with Dolly over Katy. Like I said, I get why they paired Katy with Dolly for ratings. For the record, I'm somewhat a fan of Katy - mainly of Teenage Dream singles and a few others - so it's not a matter of me being anti-pop/outside artist.
