I usually try not to comment on things like this but I can't help it this time. Hopefully it doesn't cause problems or blow up in my face. This is simply my opinion and nothing else. Honestly I can understand why Katy is dueting with Dolly (ratings, etc ) but at the same time I can't help but to give a judgemental look at the ACM's. Why? Because they are honoring the movie 'Coat of Many Colors' on the award show and one of the main actresses is a country singer who has won several major awards on the show (songwriter/single/duo/new artist, etc). I guess I would have loved to see Jennifer do something with Dolly since she played a big part in the movie that is being honor. Heck, I would have taken any female country artist more or less to sing with Dolly over Katy. Like I said, I get why they paired Katy with Dolly for ratings. For the record, I'm somewhat a fan of Katy - mainly of Teenage Dream singles and a few others - so it's not a matter of me being anti-pop/outside artist. I think if they would have Katy at least have her not only with dolly, but Kacey musgraves since she and Katy have worked together and sang together on cmt crossroads. And I really wish Jennifer would get added so we can get a performance of unlove you.

Yes for Dolly performing!
What the hell with Katy with her?!?
I'm intrigued, but scared at the same time. I assume they won't reduce Dolly to singing one of Katy's bubblegum song. Just sing a Dolly song.

I just heard on ET that they will be dueting on "Jolene."

I just heard on ET that they will be dueting on "Jolene." If reaction to Jolene is favorable and the sales and streams for it are off the chart, the following will happen: 1. Jolene will top the mongrel chart. It will be the first #1 for Dolly Parton on any country chart since her duet with Brad Paisley on When I Get Where I'm Going (2006). It'll be Katy Perry's first #1 on ANY country chart. 2. Parton, at age 70 will be the oldest female with a #1 record. 3. Parton will have the longest gap of #1s between 1971's Joshua to 2016's Jolene. 4. With Perry's star power, if it tops the Hot 100, it will be Parton's third on that chart following 1981's 9 To 5 and 1983's Islands In The Stream with Kenny Rogers. Just food for thought. New Artist Award nominees finalized: theboot.com/kelsea-ballerini-chris-stapleton-old-dominion-2016-acm-awards/

They're just performing a song together on the awards show. I highly doubt that it's going to be released as an actual duet to digital retailers, which is what would have to happen for Katy Perry to receive credit for anything. It's certainly possible that it receives a nice sales spike (Dolly's original recording, ofc.), but it's not going to be like what we saw with Chris Stapleton in the fall or anything, lol.

Well, when it comes to New Artist Of The Year. I think it's safe to say who will win (and who should win). So the choices are arguably in my opinion one of my least favorite bands in country music. A critically acclaimed artist who has a ton of momentum. Then we have Kelsea Ballerini, the pop-country artist who has now scored two back to back #1s. I do think that Chris Stapleton will win, but I could see Kelsea Ballerini getting it as well since she has a good amount of momentum (despite terrible album sales, and mediocre at best single sales), the only one who I don't think will win is Old Dominion (thank goodness!)

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I didn't think those are *finalists* for a singular New Artist of the Year Award. I thought those *are* the respective winners for Best New Male, Best New Female, and Best New Group.

Yeah, it used to be that they were thrown into a collective "New Artist" category (they did that in 2013 for instance with Brantley Gilbert, Jana Kramer, and Florida Georgia Line, with FGL winning New Artist), but I haven't seen anything that suggests they're doing that again.

I believe you're right. I think Kelsea Ballerini, Chris Stapleton, and Old Dominion are done as far as winning anything in 'new' categories are concerned. I looked at last year's thread and the top three nominees went on to the next level (winning Best New Artist, won by Cole Swindell). The only thing I see is that they've stopped making the New Artist category a fan voted thing.

If Little Big Town is performing that probably means they have a new song to premier since I can't imagine they'll perform "Girl Crush" again for the award show for the same award show two years in a row!

New Additions:
Kelsea Ballerini's performance will feature Nick Jonas
Trombone Shorty is performing with "one of the showβs biggest acts." (This is presumably referring to a group, as earlier in the press release, it says he'll be performing with "surprise artists")
Tom Hiddleston and Maddie & Tae are presenters.

No Brad? I'm hoping this means he's resting and new music isn't ready vs the alternative of Old Dominion, Thomas Rhett, and Brett Eldredge beating him out of a performance slot.

But would Dierks perform something other than his single on the ACM broadcast? I would prefer it in this case, but the safer play would obviously be to perform "Somewhere on a Beach." And I suppose that it's not out of the question that Trombone Shorty would actually join him for "Somewhere on a Beach."

Even though they're currently significantly more relevant? I mean, I don't like OD or Thomas but I completely understand why they're performing and why Brad wouldn't be... kanimal Trombone Shorty was also announced as guesting on Dierks' new album today, so it's possible there's a surprise number that also includes Dierks.

What would she perform? She hasn't had a hit in quite some time, and she doesn't have any new music ready to go yet. Also, what's up with Nick Jonas getting back-to-back performances at the ACM's? Talks about random, lol. He performed with Dan + Shay last year.

Hey jhomes87 do you think that Little Big Town will perform a new song or will they have "Girl Crush" again . Also I really wish Miranda Lambert would perform but since she doesn't have any new music (hard to believe considering how long she's been off the radio) it makes sense.

Old Dominion gets a performance slot over Miranda/Lee Brice/Kip Moore/Brothers Osborne/Randy Houser. Hilarious.

Old Dominion gets a performance slot over Miranda/Lee Brice/Kip Moore/Brothers Osborne/Randy Houser. Hilarious. I don't care for Old Dominion, but like... they legitimately had a bigger presence on country radio in the past 12 months than literally all of those artists. Brothers Osborne is literally the only other one in your list that would make much sense to be giving a performance.

Old Dominion gets a performance slot over Miranda/Lee Brice/Kip Moore/Brothers Osborne/Randy Houser. Hilarious. In the current universe, there is no way that Old Dominion gets a performance slot "over" Miranda Lambert. The producers want the biggest names performing, so if Miranda weren't performing on the ACMs, it would be because she chose not to. As it happens, per the article that carriekins linked, she is performing a cover of ZZ Top's "Tush" with Billy Gibbons and Keith Urban supporting her. As for the rest, in addition to the valid points carriekins and .indulgecountry have made about Old Dominion having established more current radio relevance than several of the artists that you named, they also won the New Duo/Group category this year at the ACMs. I would have voted for either Brothers Osborne or Maddie & Tae over them, but the category having gone the way that it did, it's reasonable that they get to perform. In this Music Row summary of the producers' ACM preview, it appears that ACM CEO Bob Romeo put emphasis on the efforts this year to showcase a crop of new breakthroughs, citing Sam Hunt, Chris Stapleton, Cam, Kelsea Ballerini, Thomas Rhett, Brett Eldredge and Old Dominion. Throw in what I believe is Chris Young's second ever major awards show performance and the roster for this year's ACMs does look pretty different from that of recent years. Of course, the nominations were likely designed to make that happen (I mean, how the heck else do Chris Young and Thomas Rhett get nominated for their mediocre-at-best albums when albums from Kacey, Carrie and Ashley were eligible?). Personally, I find the new crop as Romeo cites it pretty bland outside of Chris Stapleton and Cam (and Sam Hunt, as much as I don't consider him country). But I hope that The Powers That Be's interest in showcasing the new carries over to next year when the likes of Maren Morris and, again, Brothers Osborne and Cam will hopefully factor into industry nominations.

ACM's have confirmed that Duo of the Year will be presented prior to the telecast, which means a likely FGL win, not Joey & Rory unfortunately.
However, the ACM's will honor Joey Martin with a tribute during the show.

I wish Kacey was performing not presenting... It could boost the album a bit. Without radio play it would be the next best thing to promote the album in some way =(
