This is the follow-up to their #1 smash "Lola's Theme". I can't find an audio link.

If it's anything like Lola's Theme then it should be good, although I don't know how they will be able to top that. Im sure they can, because Lola's Theme kind of has a novelty air about it and it gets cheezy after a while, but it's still good.

Anybody have an MP3 for this song? Sounds like it could be a good one!

Here's an MP3. There are a lot less vocals on this one than there were on "Lola's Theme". It's very similar in style. www.paul-farris.com/nctg4.mp3

I have heard a sample of this track already, and I am really liking it :). I wonder how the remixes will sound. It should be coming soon.

That sample posted on here IS a remix. It's the Nocturnal Dub Version and it is not on the Positiva Promo released to DJs around the world. The Nocturnal Vocal has full lyrics, more than the repetetive "Lola's Theme". The original promo edit is not as good as what you've heard on that clip, not nearly as good in fact.

More vocals would make the song better.

bad news if they plan on releasing it as a major release. This mix is awesome, but the original will of course get most of the radio play.

OR, you could be completely wrong, because the only radio play it has received is the nocturnal remix.

Now, if only I could find an MP3 of it or even the single to purchse (good luck to me living in red neck central), I'd be set! :( I thought they said this would be released in January? Because for some odd reason, the Positiva site is now saying March.... strange.

i think i like this song just as much as "Lola's Theme". The music sounds very similar and the diva is the the same as Lola's, i believe. This song has a great melody and should be a pretty nice sized hit.
Long live house music
my favorite song of the moment.

I thought their name was Shape U.K., or is that just for the US releases?

I thought their name was Shape U.K., or is that just for the US releases? In England, they go by the name of Shapeshifters. However, there was band in the U.S. with the same name, so they changed it to Shape:UK for U.S. releases. That's just like what happened with Yazoo (their the ones that did "Situation" and "Don't Go"). For their U.S. releases they went by the name Yaz.

Added at Energy San Fran this week after easily stomping the competition four nights in a row on their First Spin feature. Also seeing decent spins now at C89.5 Seattle and Energy Arizona. :)

Are all their strings and horns synthesized, or do they actually have people playing like disco bands used to?

Are all their strings and horns synthesized, or do they actually have people playing like disco bands used to? I'm a trained classical musician, and it sounds like the real deal to me. But it's getting harder and harder to tell these days. They paid classical musicians to appear in their video: www.virgin.net/music/musicvideos/shapeshifters_backtobasics_hi.html, so hopefully they paid them to perform on the actual record as well! ;)

The video is real hot. By the way, what instruments do you play as a classically trained musician?

By the way, what instruments do you play as a classically trained musician? I play the violin. I can bang out some crude stuff on the piano as well, like the themes to Star Wars, Dynasty, and Dallas!

"Back to Basics" came thisclose to nabbing Greatest Gainer honors at dance radio this week, but fell short at the very last minute to the Killers' "Mr. Brightside." Nevertheless, Shape:UK/Shapeshifters are awarded a spot within the top 25, debuting at #18.

I heard a rumor that Shapeshifters are on a different label here in the U.S. than they were on for their first U.S. single. The debut of "Back to Basics" on Billboard's Dance Radio Airplay chart has the label listed as Nocturnal Groove. I don't know what U.S. label "Lola's Theme" was on, however.
