because she really did show so much promise as an artist. Did somebody say Promise? Let our ears, minds, and hearts be cleansed!

because she really did show so much promise as an artist. Did somebody say Promise? Let our ears, minds, and hearts be cleansed! That was intentional, as Promise will always be her best song. Sadly, the only other songs I liked from The Evolution were Like A Boy (another classic) and Get Up. But, wait, as I am looking at the deluxe version on Apple Music, I stumbled across a song called Addicted. I really don't know why that was not on the standard CD.

And this is why some of us in this thread refuse to settle for mid when she’s given us timeless classics.

She was trendsetting back then.
I think the commercial failures of Fantasy Ride and Basic Instinct really made her a lot less adventurous with music.

I'll never forget all the drama around Fantasy Ride and the stories about the different versions of the album or whatever. The final project turned out solid and I actually liked it more than her first two. Actually, looking at the track list, it MIGHT be my favorite.
1. Fantasy Ride 2. Basic Instinct 3. Ciara
But those albums are fantastic. Least amount of filler and the slow jams are spicy and not soggy.

I wanna say something that maybe looked at as controversial or maybe not but imma hold off right now. Fact of the matter is Ciara also regained that back after Fantasy Ride and Basic Instict. Those missteps may have affected her confidence(I'm not even too sure about that, she gave us some of her best performances here and great bops) but more so creativity and she gained that backed. Hell she popped out on Wake Up, No Make up doing all the trap, rab & B thingy mainstream R&B girls were all trying to do and went off on Sweat (That's my damn song, wish we would've gotten a video) she used to always take some kind of risk whether it worked or not.
There are few things at play that weren't then, which is why we maybe getting the out put were getting.

Ooh...I forgot about Sweat. That coulda fit nicely on Ciara. I just added it to my playlist for a party I'm having in November!

Fantasy Ride and Basic Instinct were very underrated. They had full bops.

That's a really good question! Same with her and Polow, though, to be fair, what has Polow done lately? Decided to revisit Ciara's catalog (or at least my top 3) and yeah, I stand by my assessment of Fantasy Ride. I think the version we got was a perfect balance of urban and pop, something Ciara seems to have struggled to achieve since, honestly. It was my first skip-less Ciara album. I'll have to revisit my other faves Basic Instinct and Ciara to see if I place them over FR, but for now, FR definitely remains my favorite Ciara album. I remember putting in WORK to those slow jams when the album dropped. Ciara (self-titled) comes VERY close to being perfect, but she had to go ahead and include that second Nicki track, which could have been swapped for Backseat Love for another skip-less album. Remove Turn It Up from Basic Instinct and we are left with a tight, perfect 10-track album. While I don't LOVE Pucker Up on Fantasy Ride, it's still fun and silly, at least.

I can't get in to "Speechless" on BI, the single-note hook is not to my taste. But I agree those three albums are her strongest period.
I do like Beauty Marks a lot, but I skip the Macklemore collab and the title track, otherwise I love everything else.
EDIT: Now that I look at the tracklisting for Jackie, it suffers from the same issue where I chop off "Jackie (B.M.F.)" and "I Got You" and pretend they don't exist.

I love how people can interchangeably swap out several of her projects over the others. Shows she has a solid discography, the way the "Jackie" album has grown on me over the years is CRAZY. I love that album now, not perfect and if she was going to go the "mother" route I wish she fully committed to it and not dabbled with it but I love it still. It contains may favorite single from her with DLWML.
And her and The Dream relationship is weird, it's not beef no more, but their not gonna work with each other anytime soon I don't think.

I love pop more than anything so I will always gravitate toward that so Ciara and Jackie are up there for me but also I will always be nostalgic over Goodies so that one is in the top three.

I miss Ciara x The-Dream. Great chemistry. Is there beef between them ? Why did the stop working together? I remember Dream was doing an interview and when discussion came up about him working on Ciara’s new album (Basic Instinct), the interviewer told Dream that people felt that this upcoming album was a make or break it for her career and if he agreed, and he responded with yes. That of course went everywhere on the blogs and Ciara said she understood what he was saying. But I always wondered if she felt a way deep down and just played it cute publicly. She’s very well media trained after all lol. Active Aggressive Polow’s production is all over the Jackie album. So do with that what you will 💀😭.

LOL my best friend LOVES I Got You because it reminds her of how she feels for her son. I can do without it. B.M.F. was cute. The horns on Speechless is what got me, but I really do think that The-Dream was her best producer, outside of a few tracks (Intern Puke's Tell Me What Your Name Is, Polow's pre-Jackie contributions, mostly.)

But The Dream said or did something after this as well about her that was like "nice" some kinda compliment or shoutout he gave Ci that let me know they moved past it but not working together. I can't recall where it was maybe twitter or some interview.

I guess as an OG fan whats really pissing me off is that I dont really think she makes mature music for Adults...... to enjoy
Which is why I really believe after the Self Titled era......she lost alot of OG fans/GP fans.
on top of that, pop leaning records when Urban Music was on the rise, and your audience is majority urban.......was a choice.

Chile do you like anything I do. Trust me I’m a fan but I’m not a delusional one. Even you know some of the work she has been putting out isn't her best....... I will say this - Ciara can and has done much better than "How We Roll", and if this is what CSquad is championing on as a new career defining song, we've got some major issues with quality and accountability. An averagely good radio single should not send her entire fanbase into a frenzy. Not fans who've experienced the greatness that is "Oh", "Promise", and "Like A Boy" etc in real time. I also feel like Ciara is caving to social media pressure and not challenging herself anymore. She looked and danced amazing in her video, but she keeps regurgitating her old moves and isn't trying anything new with her vocals. And now people can continue to use the drag that she hasn't grown musically or visually, when that was largely untrue until this new era and batch of singles. I'd rather her try her hand at new styles of music and dance at the risk of alienating some of her fanbase than fall into a predictable rhythm of releasing the same songs and getting accused of being stagnant

Forgot about DLWML! I also debated about putting Go Girl and Work in there.
She has a great videography that it’s hard to narrow down a top 3.

1. Dance Like We're Making Love (I am still obsessed with the dance between her and the male dancer. So hot!)
2. Promise (Iconic.)
3. Ride (WHEW.)
