This is the only record I have ever liked from her. So its a step up its still vocally nasally annoying but at least the production is different. And its kind of a bop. This is the song Arianna should have recorded it would have been even better with her vocals. Regardless I support this record. Why is everyone saying ariana should have recorded it. Meghan wrote this song. It's about her. It's like saying oh I loved piece by piece by Kelly Clarkson but Leona should have recorded it. Because it's what Since U Been Gone was to Avril Lavigne. It executes her signature sound better than she's been able to construct herself thus far.

Because it's what Since U Been Gone was to Avril Lavigne. It executes her signature sound better than she's been able to construct herself thus far. I was trying to think of a way to put it into words, but "it executes her signature sound better than she's been able to construct herself thus far" is exactly what I wanted to say. For me personally, this is kind of the reason why I respect Meghan as an artist more than Ariana, and why I believe artists in general should be more involved in the writing process. Look what you can create if you are!

100% on the train that this is the Ariana Grande song she didn't know she was supposed to make. I also agree with that prior phrasing being the perfect way to describe it.
This is so addictive.

Can we start a running tally of the late 90s/early 00s songs this sounds like? I've got:
-Willa Ford: I Wanna Be Bad -Stacie Orrico: Stuck -Destiny's Child: Jumpin Jumpin

When I first read some of the preliminary lyrics, I thought this would be a really stupid song, but when I actually listened to it it sounded catchy. I actually like this! Definitely better than DFH in every aspect.

I personally love the Max Martin 90's vibe of the verses and the incorporation of the bridge into the final chorus, such a thing he would do with Britney, BSB, and Nsync. I love everything about this record.

This reminds me strongly of something from the late 90s or early 00s, but I can't think of it. It does slightly remind me of "The Call", but I'm not sure if that's what I'm thinking of.
Personally, I don't like the rapping part of the chorus. I think it would have been much better if it were just the singing part of it. Overall, I really like this. I didn't really like any of the singles from her last era (or really, her album), but there is something about her that I like, but I don't know what. I think this is a huge up-step for me though.

I'm rooting for this to go #1 in the coming weeks. Any word on a music video?

I think it is a pretty safe bet this will be a number 1 song. Every other pop star best get out of the way or they will get hit by a speeding Mtrain.

I hear Destiny's Child on this. Going to give this time but first few listens leave me unimpressed.

I love how I come in here and see so many people talk about the late 90s/early 00s vibe the song has. Because that's EXACTLY what I thought when I first heard it. Glad it wasn't just me.
Even reminds me a little bit some tracks of P!nk's first album... "There You Go" and "Most Girls"

The more I listen to this, the better it gets. I hope the throwback style doesn't hold it back from succeeding as it deserves.

This genuinely feels like a cross between Pink's "There You Go" with a Destiny's Child song.
What a combo.

Personally, I don't like the rapping part of the chorus. I think it would have been much better if it were just the singing part of it. I didn't like the rap bits at first either, but even they are becoming catchier with each listen. I love the late 90's/early 2000s pop feel that this has. The vocal arrangement is wonderful and the beat/production is great. The song is sonically very dark, which is how I like my music. It will be interesting to see how this does. I hope it smashes and see no reason why it won't. I think it's her best song to date.

Why is everyone saying ariana should have recorded it. Meghan wrote this song. It's about her. It's like saying oh I loved piece by piece by Kelly Clarkson but Leona should have recorded it. Artists sell songs they wrote all the time, so I'm not sure I understand why it matters that Meghan wrote it. To answer your question, it sounds like a song Ariana would song, and some people just prefer her voice. This song comes across better performed by someone else because it kinda the opposite of All About The Base. I prefer this song over any of her past releases. Its fun and it will probably go top 10 on pop cause its catchy and I much prefer this sound over the 60's sound that she used to much on her past era. I am very interested to see how this does and what the video is like.

I definitely hear Stacy Orrico "Stuck" and Five "When the Lights Go Out". Yes! This sounds more like "Stuck" than any other song previously mentioned. I knew it sounded like something, but I just couldn't place it. This better be a smash to make up for how little "Stuck" did.
