Good LAWD. The scenes where she's dancing in the hallway with the breakthrough braid. What other female is bringing that level of heat? NONE. Can't she at least give them a chance?

It is free on TIDAL (I wonder if this and ANTI are their attempts to rebuild their image. eh.): tidal.com/us/store/album/57034907 tidal.com/us/store/album/57034934As for the song, I much prefer her pop and R&B material, basic as that might make me, but agree with Corin on the video's imagery. lol @ "I might get your song played on the radio station" though. Not this format!Got an e-mail with this along with a free 90 day re-activation of my Tidal account :kii:

I'm sure they aren't afraid of this blocking them on any chart that they care about. Who said anything about charts? I'm talking about the level of commitment, fierceness and charisma she brings to her performances. No other female in the game is close.

I love this. She constantly makes music relevant to her culture, her upbringing and presents it in an powerful uplifting way. I love how she can take a positive message and just slay it with swag.

This won't even get sent to CHR. But she has a big pop smash coming tomorrow which is what they'll be banking on.

Pandering. I do like it though.
Really confused about the praise for the video. Really boring and the 90's VHS aesthetic is played out.

As an artist, this is absolutely not an excuse. For someone to take your work that you invested your time and money into without compensation shy of a shoutout is insulting. The "exposure as payment" myth is just that, a myth, and giving credit after the fact, without prior permission mind you, is still a violation of intellectual property. Melina can f**k off. Edit: I don't expect anyone to actually care (or know) about the ins and outs of that business, so this is more of a personal rant.

This (a rip-off of some kind) always happens with Beyoncé's eras. Like clockwork almost.

I was reading on Twitter that the documentary is owned by some production company that allowed its usage. That may or may not not be a fan's spin, but you'd think Melina would know better by now if that wasn't the case.
One of the director's also said that they were asked directly and declined though which is a little off-putting, but not that big of deal either.

This is absolute trash. I like Beyonce overall, but this sounds like some second rate joke song you'd see explode on Vine. She should be doing much better than this crap this far into her career IMO.

This video is going to fly over so many people's heads Is not the video...which is indeed great visually and serves as awareness on the black lives matter movement. Her lyrics are what bother me. I feel like the imagery doesn't match it. She still an amazing talented artist and will still get my coins as I'm a fan of hers. You win the Common Sense Award. As I have said in other threads, the song is a fun ratchet bop like 7/11 where she talks about how great she is but I am not going to sit on it and spin it into something else. As an African-American, I understand all too well that #BlackLivesMatter but, to be honest, if anything, this song sets the movement back. The video is a different story. I'll still bop along and mean mug to the song but yeah, 7/11 2.0

Both he and the director stated that there were talks about using the footage, but they ended abruptly with Abteen saying no, he wouldn't allow it. Sundance Channel apparently owns the documentary because the directors sold it, so it's not their property anymore. *SundanceTV, and no, it doesn't look like they do.

This is a still from the video: Didn't notice that the first time. Sundance Channel became SundanceTV; I assumed they'd use that in the intro but it may have been before the change. If that's the case then the director/producer are playing dumb, but their tweets lead me to believe they didn't sell full rights to Sundance. The way films are picked up by major production companies that debut at Sundance leads me to believe that may be the case, but we probably won't know for sure either way. Still doesn't change the fact that Melina using the footage without the consent of the director is pretty tasteless.

I like this a lot, but I also really enjoyed "7/11," too. The music video is fantastic as well.

I get certain undercurrents from you guys whenever Beyoncé (or Rihanna) doesn't release something with pop sensibilities. I see the same posters who trash songs like this and 7/11 on their knees slurping up mediocre, pop nonsense as if it were gold standard sent from above.
Riding the waves of popular sound is ok only if it blends into your idea of the current pop landscape. Who cares if something may sound "dated" in the future. 98% of music will. Is that something that's necessarily bad?
