Not going to listen to this now because I've ordered it and I want to be surprised when I get my copy, but I'm really anticipating this. Hard to believe it's been 13 years since her last proper studio album.

Listen to the album once. Didn't like it at all. Sounds pretty bluesy and far too laidback at times. At least it wasn't up to Wy's lofty standards exemplified in her first 3 solo albums.

I've only listened to about half of the album and the only one I really care for is "Staying In Love." Her voice doesn't seem as bold on this album as her previous ones. I know that Wynonna and Cactus did an interview that was put out recently describing how the album came to be. Cactus suggested that she needed to branch out and expand her style. It's too different for my taste. I was kind of hoping we would get something more of an "in your face" type of deal...like, "No One Else On Earth."

On the whole, not as enjoyable as the first two ballads that were made available. I do prefer the ballads to the uptempos, particularly those ballads that are a little more country than blues.

Listeneed to the CD a second time today. Still don't get most of the songs. Agree the ballads are the best -- but still they don't have the "wow" factor a la "She's His Only Need," "Loved By Grace" etc... They are more bluesy ballads with an elusive melody. It's too experimetal. "Jesus and a Jukebox" is the countriest song and it's my favorite. "Things I Lean on" is my second fav.
A big disappointment considering that Wy hasn't had a studio album of new material in more than a decade. She should stick to Tony Brown and not her hubby.

Loooooove the original of "Cool Ya'" that was done by Andrew Ripp, but her version definitely lacks the energy of it. Also kinda peeves me that Curb seems to be trying to erase Andrew's version of the song and passing off the song as a Wynonna original (even though she denied that to me).

I actually liked the album as a whole. Probably not as much as any of her other studio albums, but that being said, I still did like most of it. I guess I went into it not expecting a really country album, based on some of the comments here, so it was as jarring for me. I hope she doesn't decide to make blues music her entire focus for the rest of her career, but this album itself is nice, and I can see myself listening to it for awhile.
Initially, my favourite tracks are "Cool Ya" (but then I'm not familiar with the original), "Staying In Love" and "Things I That I Lean On". I'm not a huge fan of "You Are So Beautiful" and "Choose To Believe", but I probably need to listen to them a bit more.

Debuts at #14 country, #162 on the top 200 with 5000 sold. Congratulations, Wynonna Judd!

Are those numbers considered good? 5,000 sounds very low, or is it?

Are those numbers considered good? 5,000 sounds very low, or is it? Yeah those are pretty low numbers. I think with a little more promo or awareness she probably could've sold a bit more though but the album really seemed like a long time coming and then all of a sudden there it was. Obviously radio wasn't going to be on board so there was little to no point in trying anything on that front, but this release definitely was rather low-key and I'm sure a lot of people aren't aware she even released a new album.

I'm a life long Judd and Wynonna fan. I only like a couple songs on here, those being the 2 ballads that came out before. This one I hope grows on me more. 90s Wynonna was still the best.

Took a listen to this today for the first time. Upon first listen, I actually really like this album. I don't think I've heard a single thing from Wynonna besides "No One Else On Earth", so I didn't know what to expect.
No, this isn't a country album, at least not primarily. Like many others have already said, this is very bluesy/rocking. Now for me, Blues and Rock are my favorite genres outside of Country so I really enjoyed a large part of this record. That being said, I agree with the consensus that the country ballads are the best things here, and perhaps are what truly transcend this album to great in my eyes.
I have to say, the only track I wasn't really feeling was "Staying In Love", mostly for lackluster lyrics, but I seem to be in the minority here haha.
Upon first listen (meaning I have to give it more listens as with any true album review), I give it a light 8/10. For Country, probably a 5.
Standout Tracks: "Cool Ya", "Things That I Lean On (w/ Jason Isbell)", "Jesus and A Jukebox", "Choose To Believe"

Do you think Wy will be drop by Curb considering the low numbers?

Do you think Wy will be drop by Curb considering the low numbers? I doubt it, tbh. Curb couldn't have been expecting much in the way of sales from this (but I agree that the sales are disappointing and lower than expected).
