Well I'm now convinced that Stressed Out ain't getting to #1. Oh well, I'm happy it made it this far anyway; hopefully it holds out long enough to make the year-end top five! Fixed.

Doesn't seem like Taylor releasing New Romantics as a 7th single is a good idea, especially how OOTW flopped, which itself was pushing the envelope in trying to extend the era. Also unusual to release a bonus track as a single from a deluxe version of an album (not a re-release). I can't think of this being done before. Now, now now... "Flopped" is too strong of a word. It got to #12 on the Top 40 Mediabase chart. Not good for Taylor's standards, but it is the 6th single. It's not going to get digital sales because the album has sold 4.8 million copies. We need to stop labeling everything a "hit" or "flop." There is an in-between.

Any chance for Rihanna to be #1? I'm ready for the meltdowns on Facebook. There could be a small chance, but I doubt it. Since the video cokes out today though, I think it has a good chance at #1 on the 3/12 chart. I am too amused by this not-really-a-typo

I don't know if it's been done before, but I think it makes sense. In theory "NR" would have a better chance of doing well in downloads and streams as fewer people own it versus something like "OTTW." Having said that, I agree it has little chance of doing well since it seems like the era has run its course.

Yeah that'd be even better! It could be the Counting Stars of 2015/2016 Now, now now... "Flopped" is too strong of a word. It got to #12 on the Top 40 Mediabase chart. Not good for Taylor's standards, but it is the 6th single. It's not going to get digital sales because the album has sold 4.8 million copies. We need to stop labeling everything a "hit" or "flop." There is an in-between. yeah but it's pretty bizzare for OOTW not to reach top ten when all five of the previous singles reached #1. That's just my opinion. You must be referring to Mediabase's chart then. Because in the Hot 100, Style and Wildest Dreams only reached the top 10.

Riri gets her 14th #1 without the video. Video will likely give her a good few weeks at the top spot then!

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! @ "Work"
Unrelated, I'd like to see a combination chart of sales and streaming WITHOUT airplay, just to see what it looks like.

It's a sad commentary on our culture today that something as redundant and mundane as "Work" is the #1 single. It's easily among her worst singles. Meanwhile the terrific "Stay" couldn't get to #1.

And the funniest part in this imo is that I can still see her having a #1 hit as early as this spring if she ever delivers that song. Even if it isn't the greatest thing ever. Just as Rude Boy ended up hitting #1 over Lady Gaga at her peak after a slower period, Adele and Bieber won't hold her back from the pubic (hell, her biggest hit came at the height of 21) if she just has that track. The whole planet is pretty much willing to let her move on with whatever other s**t she wants if they just get that "eh eh eh eh". It's not even March. Congrats! I shall see myself out.

Mariah is still way ahead as a lead artist, but if you are counting #1s with any kind of credit here is an interesting way to look at it:
Mariah hit 15 #1s within 11 years of charting ("TGIFY" hit #1 in 2000, which was her 11th year of charting) Rihanna just hit 14 #1s within 11 years of chart (her first single charted in 2005)

Billboard does not distinguish lead/features when it comes to crediting #1s. There's going to be MANY butt hurt posts after this but Rihanna has 14 #1 hits, period. She's just FIVE hits away from stealing the title and shes not even 30 yet! FYI jenglisbe this post was NOT directed towards you or anyone in particular.
