This is a paste-in of a conversation from the Sam Hunt "Make You Miss Me" thread. It has absolutely nothing to do with Sam's song but I thought it would make a good discussion. [ Hillary also sings the very prominent background vocal on Gary Allan's recording of her song "Every Storm". Her background vocal on "Every Storm" is definitely one of if not the best background vocals on a song I can remember the past few years. Anyways back to "Make You Miss Me" her background vocal is very good on it too. What are your favorite songs that feature prominent background vocals, i.e. They're not so much in the background? It doesn't have to be a famous person singing, just a bgv that stands out. I'll start with a few I like: "Every Storm" - Gary Allan (Hillary Lindsey bgv) "Drink a Beer" - Luke Bryan (Chris Stapleton bgv) "When I Call Your Name" - Vince Gill (Patty Loveless bgv) "Shameless" - Garth Brooks (Trisha Yearwood bgv) "The One That Got Away" - Jake Owen (??? Bgv) "What We Ain't Got" - Jake Owen (Sarah Buxton bgv) "Nobody Wins" - Radney Foster (Kim Richey bgv) Who's got some more? I will keep thinking about it.

This is definitely something to ponder as it could be hard to come up with songs lol.
I'll keep the conversation going by saying pretty much any Zac Brown Band song. They have killer harmonies/background vocals. If you want me to pick just one song I'll go with "Colder Weather".

ZBB - "Goodbye in Her Eyes"
This is an interesting topic, I'll try to think of some more and post a list later on.

Almost all of Rodney Atkins' songs, where Angela Hurt's BGVs nearly drown him out.
I also thought that Patty Loveless's BGVs on "Monday Morning Church" stuck out like a sore thumb; she doesn't even TRY to harmonize with Alan and nearly drowns him out half the song.

I knew you would bring "Monday Morning Church" up, lol. I was surprised that Patty didn't get a credit on R&R and Billboard for "Monday Morning Church" since she is very noticeable on the song. I liked John Rich's backing vocals on "Come To Bed" by Gretchen Wilson; it was prominent enough for a credit but it didn't sound over-powering compared to Gretchen's vocals.

Wow, I forgot what a strong song that is. I've said some mixed things about Gretchen, but she could really nail a stone-country ballad. I just wish more people would acknowledge that and not see her as only the Redneck Woman™. What else I like about "Come to Bed" is John singing the line "Let's put aside our prideful feelings for tonight" by himself. To me, that makes it feel like the man in the song is finally listening to the female's point of view and agreeing with what she's telling him.

There harmonies are always incredible, but a few that they really stand out to me are "Meet in the Middle", "Night Is Falling in my Heart", "Love a Little Stronger", and "Unbelievable"

David Nail - "Songs for Sale" (Lee Ann Womack on BGV) David Nail - "Strangers on a Train" (Miranda Lambert on BGV) David Nail - "Brand New Day" (Aubrie Sellers on BGV) David Nail - "Let It Rain" (Sarah Buxton on BGV) David Nail - "When They're Gone (Lyle County)" (Little Big Town on BGV) Sara Evans - "No Place That Far" & "Better Off" (Vince Gill on BGV) Jo Dee Messina - "Bring on the Rain" (Tim McGraw on BGV) Scotty McCreery - "Carolina Moon" (Allison Krauss on BGV) Luke Bryan - "Tailgate Blues" (Ashton Shepherd on BGV) Brad Paisley - "When I Get Where I'm Going" (Dolly Parton on BGV) George Strait - "A Showman's Life" (Faith Hill on BGV) Josh Turner - "Another Try" (Trisha Yearwood on BGV) Blake Shelton - "Home" (Miranda Lambert on BGV)
This thread definitely made me truly realize that David Nail is a great example of incorporating prominent background vocal features on his songs.

Already said, but Trisha Yearwood's vocal performance on Garth Brooks' "Shameless" is probably one of my favourite on record. Her wail at the end of the song is pretty much perfect.

"Nobody Wins" - Radney Foster (Kim Richey bgv)
Mary Chapin Carpenter does background vocals on that one.
Anyway, Olivia Newton-John on the John Denver hit, Fly Away.

I was confused - Kim sang background on several tracks on that album, including a fantastic job on "Easier Said Than Done", but "Nobody Wins" was not one of them!

Mary Chapin Carpenter was on the chart with her solo single, Passionate Kisses. This was the chart where she and Radney Foster were the closest to each other. Trisha Yearwood - "Let The Wind Chase You" (Keith Urban bgv) Garth Brooks - "She's Tired Of Boys" (Trisha Yearwood bgv) Trisha sings excellent bgvs. Several (invluding me) have mentioned her work with Garth (prior to becoming Mrs. Brooks), but I have also always liked her vocals on Lee Roy Parnell's "When a Woman Loves a Man" She also has good bgvs in her own songs, such as Garth on "Like We Never Had a Broken Heart" and Don Henley on "Walkaway Joe" where he sings higher than she does!

Don Henley also compliments her really nicely on "Inside Out" (and she returns the favor very well on his "Words Can Break Your Heart"). Trisha is such an excellent singer, both as a lead vocalist and a background vocalist.

The Sammi Smith version of "Long Black Veil." Her vocals on the song are replayed in the background, but on a delay. She also sings over recitation of Bible scripture in the background.
