An album cut off Mariah's iconic, highly successful comeback album The Emancipation of Mimi. Mariah wrote this with James Poyser of the Roots. It's a love song bearing elements of both neo and retro soul and is arguably the biggest vocal performance of the album. In fact, at the New York listening party for the album in 2005, after playing "Mine Again," a journalist said, "Whoa, the return of the voice!". Mariah's team liked this phrase so much, they decided to use it in ads for the album's launching campaign. It really seemed like she hadn't belted a ballad in its entirety since the 90's and was probably on vocal rest for days before and after recording "Mine Again". Also, for a track that wasn't a single it seems to have somewhat survived, with artists like Sam Smith and Ryan Adams citing it as an example of Mariah's superb artistry. Most fans seem to be divided on this song, but I love it. The vocal are, again, killer and I love the lyrics and the subdued production. Bonus:

Her vocals on this are great, but I always found the song really boring.

I love this, just a classy f**king song. After CB, listening to her sing like this was such a relief. My only quibble, that last "maybe" where her voice cracks is so harsh, I cringe every time.

This is tied with WBT as the best ballad on the album.

The songwriting is on point. Great production too.

Possibly my favorite song from that album. Incredible vocal. Great lyrics and melody.

I listened to a podcast about TEOM and one of the hosts praised the intro to this song and said you already process some things before Mariah even starts singing!

What I would have given to see Mariah perform this song when the album was released. I know it probably would have been difficult for her to perform even then, but oh what a pipe dream. It's just so classic.

I was obsessed with this when “The Emancipation Of Mimi” album was released. I still like it and can’t believe I’m going to say this, but the top of her range belting through out the whole song is a little much.

I still like it and can’t believe I’m going to say this, but the top of her range belting through out the whole song is a little much. I think that was one of my biggest knocks on songs like this and Stay the Night. Her belting seemed very forced. I would like to see a reimagined version of this and Stay the Night that have a more organic sound overall. It seemed like she was reaching on parts of the song to make it more than it needed to be.
