My wife texted me to not look on the Internet ... I immediately knew. Same reaction when jones died
Merle is in my top 3. The greatest songwriter of his generation, across all genres. There isn't even a comparison. He will be missed. Cue the songs that will be put out in rememberance

One of the greatest singer/songwriters of any genre of music, ever. He will be missed. Merle's legacy will never go away though. Rest in peace to a true legend.

I'm bummed. You know it's inevitable, but it doesn't make it any less crappy.

this is one of the worst days of my life Mighty Merle was one of my biggest heros im losing my mind right now
currently blasting out the Hag, and will do all day. its still killing me to know he's gone. i never met the man or saw him live. but, i've always felt like i knew him threw his brutally honest songs. i have always considered Merle to be a part of my family. i ain't gonna be good for a while. it hit me like a ton of bricks and still can't believe it.

To say we lost a great one would be an understatement. Rest in peace, Hag. Your life has spoken volumes across all sorts of generations.

RIP Merle! It is so clear how many people you inspired and what a great talent you were. So glad I got to see Merle live in Denver 2 years ago. He will live on through his music.

Didn't get a chance to say anything yet, but RIP Merle. I was driving in the car listening to country radio on Wednesday when I heard the news. Shame that his health took a turn because he'd been touring and seemed to be doing alright until recently.
