This may sound silly but when i heard the name of the album: best of dance ROCK.I assumed it would be rock tunes remixed into dance tunes i know that sounds just a wee bit docile but it was my first impression! lol.

The title is totally misleading. I got this information from someone at Robbins last night.

Perhaps it is a tad bit misleading. Personally when I think of "dance-rock" I tend to think along the lines of "Somebody Told Me" by The Killers, "Start The Commotion" by The Wiseguys, "Jerk It Out" by The Caesars, "Walk Into The Sun" by Dirty Vegas, etc.
All that aside, the tracklisting looks decent. I wish they'd put out more unmixed compilations like this, I don't like browsing the various artists section of the dance CD's to only come across nothing but mix CD's one right after the other.

All the Robbins Entertainment CDs that are unmixed are the "Best Of..." ones. Those House, Trance, and Mixshow ones are all mixed. Avoid those. The mixing used to be really horrible. Also, Water Music Records makes some really good unmixed ones that have remixes of songs that you can't buy as commercial CD and vinyl singles.

They're on the right track with being unmixed, but the title is definitely a misnomer and the selection isn't all that great - some older stuff here that's been on other comps.

What a great track list! This will be the first dance CD I've bought in a long time. Question though: For those songs that don't say, are these the radio edits or full length tracks? I'm glad they choose to keep it unmixed. I do like mix CDs, but they shouldn't be the ONLY way you can buy dance compilations.
I don't get the "Dance Rock" name either. They're pretty much all straight up house songs.

I found the answer to my question. The Circuit City website has all the track times along with the names:
1.Chewing Gum - 3:55 (Annie) 2.Hear My Name - 3:27 (Rockwell, Spalding / Van Helden, Armand) 3.Call on Me - 2:48 (Prydz, Eric) 4.The Switch - 4:41 (Planet Funk) 5.Shine - 3:12 (Lovefreekz) 6.Get It On - 3:07 (Intenso Project / Scott-Lee, Lisa) 7.All Night Long - 3:54 (Lasgo) 8.You Make Me Wanna - 3:20 (D'Empress / Vee, Tommy) 9.Flashdance - 3:57 (Deep Dish) 10.Utopia (Where I Want to Be) - 6:21 (J., Mia / Stereo Star) 11.Be My World [JJ Flores Mix] - 3:59 (Milky) 12.Da Hype - 3:02 (Smith, Robert / Junior Jack) 13.Push Up - 5:43 (Freestylers) 14.Right Stuff - 3:23 (Psycho Radio / Anderson, L.C.) 15.Cut Right Through - 3:47 (Cicada)
It's only $14 bucks there too!

Circuit City has some good prices! I have 5 of the songs on the collection and the rest sound good too. I may get the collection.

I bought this last night. I really, really like it. I should have never clicked on this thread, because now I want to go waste my money on a bunch of other "Best Of..." CDs. :)
Question for Disco Dude and anyone else who might know: Do any other American dance labels offer unmixed compilations like this? Does Ultra?

I bought this last night. I really, really like it. I should have never clicked on this thread, because now I want to go waste my money on a bunch of other "Best Of..." CDs. :) Question for Disco Dude and anyone else who might know: Do any other American dance labels offer unmixed compilations like this? Does Ultra? The answer is yes! Water Music makes some pretty good compilations. I have bought a good number of theirs. At Circuit City, the prices are pretty good for these. Or you can order directly from their website or Amazon.com. The ones that have the word "Pure" in the title usually are unmixed. And some of the "This Is..." ones. There are samples available so you can hear what the songs sound like. As much as I like Ultra records, I feel that they could put out some unmixed compilations instead of the mixed ones. The mixes are good, but sometimes they feature songs you just can't find anywhere else, and you want them in an unmixed form. And there is another label based in the UK that makes some really good unmixed compilations. That's Hed Kandi. There's have a lot of songs you may not have heard yet, but they are quite good. The Disco Kandi and Twisted Disco ones are good. You can PM me and ask for some recommendations. I like unmixed ones too. But the "Best Of..." ones are good general compilations. Their quality is consistently good and it saves you a lot of time and money in searching for and buying the import singles and stuff. And besides, the mixes they choose usually are the popular ones.
