If you were a Country recording artist, which current Country artist would your music sound like?
Now, even though I'm a big fan of artists like Gary Allan, Sara Evans and Big & Rich, my music wouldn't sound like theirs. They're great at what they do but that wouldn't be my identity.
My lyrics, instrumentation and subject would probably be very similar to Greg Bates. Traditional leaning but contemporary enough to notice my influence of growing up in the 90's and 2000's.

I've thought about this a lot. Haha.
I'd want to an artist similar to Jason Isbell for a few reasons.
1) My favorite aspect of country music is strong lyrics, specifically in sad songs. And he is the king of lyrical depth right now. 2) My music would sound very intimate and acoustic. Just me and a small band. 3) I'd want to be able to release whatever I want without pressure from my label or radio. My music won't be shaped by outside forces. 4) Even though I don't have radio support, I have a dedicated, diverse, and large fan base. My album sales are stronger than most artists with radio support. 5) Critics freakin' love me. 6) My music is timeless and will be remembered, unlike some artists currently getting multiple #1 hits.

This question actually crossed my mind the other day lol. But lyrically and instrumentally hands down I would sound and sing like a mix of Sturgill Simpson, Brothers Osborne, and Eric Church. A few years ago I probably would've said a little Alan Jackson mixed in with some George Strait, Mark Chesnutt, and Dwight Yoakam.
If I was a female artist I would be Maren Morris with some Cam and a dash of Lee Ann Womack.

David Nail is the first artist that comes to mind then influences others.

Vocally I would sound more like the Josh Turner and Chris Young range of things. I love the way Joe Nichols has meshed neo-traditional sounds and modern elements. That's probably where I would fall in the spectrum.

I pretty much echo everything zjames said. I'd probably go with Dwight Yoakam. He couldn't get arrested at radio, but he's still making music, so he counts as "current" in my book. I'll admit that I wouldn't want to make the same music over and over again for my entire career, and I like how Dwight is very versatile and can be both very traditional at times yet very "progressive" at other times (yet in a tasteful, artistic way). That's probably what I'd aspire to be.

I'd be some mixture between Chris Isaak, Thomas Rhett and then to balance things out, a really traditional style. I'd like to think I would make some hardcore traditional songs, and at the same time, in the same album, something much more poppy.

Even though I would still say Greg Bates, William Michael Morgan would be another strong example.
