Marty had some of the best production in the early 90s. I loved the use of bells, timpani, heavy guitar, and reverb/flanger on the vocals on a lot of his work. It really stood out even when I was 5 and hearing "Tempted" on the radio. And I still think it holds up a lot better than most other 90s production tricks. Hard to believe that Tony Brown produced his albums, since he was usually dependable but rarely creative.
The only other artists I can think of who had even remotely similar production styles are The Mavericks, James House, and George Ducas, but they all came around the time Marty stopped having hits.

I need some more time to think about this, but I will say Marty is one of my favorites.
Also, I seem to be in the minority in that I really like "Honky Tonkin's What I Do Best", lol.

^ To me, HTWIDB just seems like Marty and Travis were trying a little too hard to make "The Whiskey Ain't Workin' 2.0" and didn't quite pull it off. It just didn't seem as "natural" as their other duets.
