There's a song called "ZEZE" that reached #2 a few weeks ago. I have no idea how it sounds like.

One Week by Barenaked Ladies was probably the worst performing #1 of 1998, placing at #51 on the Year-End, and it kind of baffles me that it went #1, itโs just so out of place next to the R&B, rap, slow pop and power ballads. It had 20 weeks on the chart, but I think it got slightly caught between years, as it was released in September. I still quite like it and remember it.

It had 20 weeks on the chart, but I think it got slightly caught between years, as it was released in September. I still quite like it and remember it. It was definitely very successful, it had a #3 debut, but 20 weeks total is nothing compared to Nextโs 53 weeks, Eltonโs 42 weeks + being #1 on 1997โs year end and #8 on 1998โs year end, and 5 on the decade end, Savage Gardenโs whole year on the chart, Janetโs 42 weeks, and so on. Yes, it was caught between years though, probably at about 14 by the time the year end came out, but Iโm still thinking it was the least successful #1 of 1998, Lately by Divine and Iโm Your Angel by R. Kelly and Celine Dion were both caught between years as well, but proved to be very successful. Iโm not saying the song was forgotten, something as different as that song will surely be as remembered as the other hits of the year, Iโm just stating that it was less successful than the other songs that hit #1 that year.

Plug Walk definitely doesn't feel like a #23 hit Agreed, if we are talking about charting songs right now Sad! doesnโt feel like a #7 hit either. Both of your comments did not age well at all.

two years later, i can safely say Cold Water.
i likely wouldve never know about the song had i not been following the charts, and i cant say ive heard it played or even brought up since it came out. cant believe it came within a few hundred points of debuting at #1.

Justin Bieberโs โLove Yourselfโ does not feel like the #1 song of 2016 to me. Feels like Closer, One Dance, Cheap Thrills, Stressed Out, Sorry, and Hello were all much bigger.

This is 100% just me but both God's Plan and In My Feelings did not feel massive, huge smashes at long periods of #1. I only heard the songs roughly halfway through their chart runs at #1 and no one in my personal circle talked about them at all lol. I don't think I ever heard them on the radio either, and I obviously didn't stream them so the only way I heard about them was through you guys haha. And even still, y'all weren't as interested in those as many other singles being realised at the same time so to me I never felt the massive-ness from either of them lol.

If you lived in the USA in 2018, theres no way that you didnt feel the impact of how massive Gods Plan and In my feelings was.

And yeah, the same thing happened in my country too or at least with "God's Plan". "In My Feelings" is HUGE here but never heard anyone talking about/listening to "God's Plan" at all.

Can confirm, I'm in Australia and while Drake is big here (And I'm sure for plenty of other people here, those songs did feel as big as their charts) for me they were really easily ignorable if not for some of you guys talking about it haha

While "In My Feelings" didn't feel too huge over here, "God's Plan" was absolutely inescapable for a bit, which is exceptional for Australia as we typically don't really embrace rap that much at all, especially in comparison to the US. A great example of a recent hit that I haven't seen anyone care about for about 2 years is "Controlla". That song just dropped off the face of the planet in retrospect, it's been a super long time since I've even thought about it lol

I thought of two other good examples of songs that felt smaller, "Imma Be" and "Break Your Heart". I have heard neither of these on the radio ever, or heard really many people talk about them even on here much haha. The most I've heard about Break Your Heart is how easily it's overshadowed by Dynamite lol.

I don't think Love Yourself felt smaller than its peak but I agree when you say about the #1 song of 2016. I would just add Work on these bunch of songs that felt bigger. And speaking about 2016 hits, I would definitely say Panda didn't felt as an #1 hit.

I know "God's Plan" was huge from being on here but I don't feel like it was huge either. I must have missed it on the radio all the time or wasn't listening to it much then??? "In My Feelings" I felt how big it was for awhile but God's Plan" not so much.

Next's "Too Close", aside from it being well remembered and still played in the R&B circle, was probably the most anonymous year end #1. And it was only #1 because of the Billboard chart rules back then. Even though it was still big on it's own and crossed over to pop that year as well, the general public doesn't remember that song. The group itself is barely remembered at all. why the fu ck you lyin' why you always lyin' mmm oh my god stop fucking lying(I couldn't resist sorry) This song was all over KIIS FM, Power 106, 92.3 The Beat and KJLH. Hell I still hear it on the radio every now and then.

okay so radiohead has had two songs reach the top 40. one is obviously creep, but take a guess at what the other is ,,,, (scroll down for the answer)
it's NUDE. good song, but uhhh yeah, pretty safe to say this one qualifies for this thread

This may be a bit early since it is still on the charts but I would say Lose Control has to be in the conversation. The only reason it reached #1 in the first place was because of how weak the charts were before that very eventful period during spring/summer 2024. Compared to other songs from this year that never reached #1 (Espresso, Million Dollar Baby, Good Luck, Babe!, even Beautiful Things), it felt like it made far less of an impact. What I understand even less is how it is still comfortably in the top ten six months later and above songs like Please Please Please and Hot To Go (which both feel bigger than LC was even at its peak).
