Same as the other thread, only the other way around. What songs charted higher than they should have?

Any song that debutted high and then dropped out.

I Don't Mind(#11). I don't know if it was pure streams, but I never heard this at all on radio or hear about this getting good sales

I Don't Mind got some spins on pop radio as well as a lot of spins on urban, so that song actually reflects it's chart performance.
Britney Spears' "3" or "Hold It Against Me" certainly didn't feel like #1 hits since I barely ever heard them on the radio.
D4L's "Laffy Taffy" certainly did not feel like a #1. I didn't even know about it's existance until 2 years after it hit #1.
I won't be counting Vine hits in the equation for the most part since a lot of people actually do end up hearing and enjoying the songs and the radio gives them constant spins. However, T-Wayne's "Nasty Freestyle" hit the top 10 with hardly any radio play on urban.
"Harlem Shake" is the obvious one.
Juvenile's "Slow Motion" was probably a big surprise to me after finding out that it was a #1 hit. I've heard the song, but I didn't know enough people loved it for it to be a #1 hit, it certainly didn't feel that way.
Next's "Too Close", aside from it being well remembered and still played in the R&B circle, was probably the most anonymous year end #1. And it was only #1 because of the Billboard chart rules back then. Even though it was still big on it's own and crossed over to pop that year as well, the general public doesn't remember that song. The group itself is barely remembered at all.
Sisqo's "Incomplete" is one of the most forgotten #1 hits of all time. People only remember him for the "Thong Song". I'm guessing it only hit #1 because of Sisqo's momentum with the "Thong Song".
Montell Jordan is the "This Is How We Do It" guy, so to learn that he had a couple of other top 10 hits with "Get It On Tonite" and "Let's Ride" was a suprise to me, they certainly didn't feel like top 10 hits.
Jason Aldean's "Dirt Road Anthem" was a top 10 hit. That alone was a surprise to me, given most country songs usually have to sound like pop to reach the top 10, not to mention it was never played on pop.
Trey Songz' "Say Aah" and "Bottoms Up" didn't feel like top 10 hits.
Black Eyed Peas' "Imma Be" did not feel one bit like a #1 hit.
Vanilla Ice's second hit, "Play That Funky" music, is remembered by no one, so yeah, that didn't feel like a top 10 hit at all.
Marky Mark actually had a second hit as well with "Wild Side". Again, that did not feel like a top 10 hit and like "Play That Funky Music" isn't remembered by anyone that wasn't a fan, nor does it get any recurrent spins, even on 90's stations.
Nelly's "Grillz" was a song I was surprised to see being a #1 hit. Is his most forgotten #1 hit and at that point, people were kind of starting to get over Nelly.
Lupe Fiasco's "The Show Goes On" was the most surprising top 10 hit to me. Most rap songs with a message normally don't peak very high. So it was surprising and at the same time, refreshing to see it in the top 10, even though it didn't really feel like a top 10.

Nellys Shake Ya Tailfeather I think is more forgotten than Grillz. I never hear that on radio anymore at all and when you ask people what Nelly songs they know and like they all say Hot In Here, Dilemma, and Ride With Me. Even Just A Dream is remembered well. Grillz can at times still play on radio but rarely, meanwhile SYT I never hear on radio at all.

Lady Gaga - The Edge of Glory (#7 in France ; #3 in the US) Tbh I thought it was a flop until I see how well it did in the charts. Michael Jackson - You Rock My World (#1 in France ; #1 in the US) That song was #1 everywhere yet nobody remembers it, which is a shame cause it's one of his greatest songs. Justin Timberlake - Mirrors (#15 in France ; #2 in the US) Never ever heard it anywhere here. Shakira f/ Wyclef Jean - Hips Don't Lie (#1 in France ; #1 in the US) I still can't believe it's her most successful song. I always felt like Whenever, Wherever, Underneath Your Clothes or even Objection were bigger hits. Katy Perry - Hot n Cold (#2 in France ; #3 in the US) I Kissed a Girl was still huge when this song came around so I guess that's why I don't remember it being that big. Madonna f/ Justin Timberlake - 4 Minutes (#2 in France ; #3 in the US) Always felt like Give It 2 Me was bigger but that wasn't the case apparently

Too bad because you're f*cking annoying. I'm not lying for the record. Unless you lived in the late 90s or is a die-hard R&B fan, no one remembers this song.

What? Too Close was huge? yes, it was #1 for 5 weeks in the Hot 100 and was a top 10 airplay hit in 1998. It also gets recurrent spins on urban stations.

Especially when you've proven over and over that you seem to be incapable of understanding that the point of the chart is meant to showcase those songs at that time. How they're regarded or remembered afterwards is absolutely irrelevant.

Hot n Cold is one of Katy's staple songs and IMO deserved to hit #1, not the other way around.
If anything, "Waking Up in Vegas" hit #9 and it's one of her most forgotten songs.
Some Others:
Mariah's "I Don't Wanna Cry" (#1) Joe's "Stutter" (#1) Aaliyah's "Miss You" (#3) Allure's "All Cried Out" (#4) Missy Elliot's "Hot Boyz" (#5) Justin Timberlake's "Summer Love (#6) Toni Braxton's "You Mean the World to Me" (#7) Janet's "You Want This" (#8) Coldplay's "A Sky Full of Stars" (#10)

PSY - Gentlemen (#5) and Hangover (#26). He hasn't done too bad on the charts for someone who is supposedly "one of the biggest one-hit wonders of the decade" for Gangnam Style.

Pop radio is just one contribution to the landscape of what determines a hit song. Even then, I do believe it reached #2 or top 5 or something on pop radio and had a pretty long chart run.

Yes, but it only had that chart because of Billboard's rules, there were songs that were much bigger than that one, and it didn't really feel as big as those songs. Not to mention is not well remembered by the general public other than R&B fans, therefore the song didn't feel as big as the chart reflects.

Ok, but you can say the same about almost every song ever. Pick a song from the 60s that isn't by the core classic rock artists and most people would have forgotten them. Same thing with the 70s, 80s, 90s. And then think that your perception is one of millions, no, billions of points of view. I remember Too Close as well as if it were playing on my speakers at this very moment and I literally know no other song by Next. Does that mean Too Close was second only to My Heart Will Go On in terms of 1998 hits? You're speaking from your own point of view, and that's fine. But to say the song "isn't remembered" because you don't perceive it as such after nearly 20 years is incorrect.
