Just one position so far... www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/7378361/chance-the-rapper-coloring-book-first-streaming-exclusiveChance the Rapper's 'Coloring Book' is First Streaming-Exclusive Album to Chart on Billboard 2005/22/2016 by Keith Caulfield Chance the Rapper’s Coloring Book debuts in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 albums chart, becoming the first streaming-exclusive set to reach the list. The independently released album bowed exclusively through Apple Music’s streaming service on May 13 and launches at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 with 38,000 equivalent album units. All of those units were generated by streams of the albums tracks via Apple Music, equating to 57.3 million streams. (Each streaming equivalent album unit is equal to 1,500 streams from an album.) The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new June 4-dated chart (where Chance the Rapper debuts at No. 8) will be posted in full to Billboard’s websites on Tuesday, May 24. Coloring Book will remain exclusive to Apple Music until May 27, when it becomes available to other streaming services. There are no announced plans to release the album for sale. It’s worth noting that while Coloring Book is the first album to chart on the list entirely from streams, Kanye West’s recently released The Life of deleted’s units are almost entirely driven by streams. The album is currently in its seventh week on the list, at No. 20, and in the latest tracking week, 99.93 percent of its units (21,000) were generated by streams. The other .07 percent were album sales. The set sold a handful of copies in the latest tracking frame, and hasn’t sold more than 1,000 copies in a week since its second chart week.

www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/7378360/drakes-views-no-1-billboard-200-album-chart-meghan-trainor-thank-youDrake's 'Views' No. 1 for Third Week on Billboard 200, Meghan Trainor Debuts at No. 3 5/22/2016 by Keith Caulfield Drake’s Views stays steady atop the Billboard 200 chart, as the album racks up a third straight week at No. 1. Views earned another 239,000 equivalent album units (down 24 percent) in the week ending May 19 in the U.S., according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 83,000 were in traditional album sales (down 53 percent). The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new June 4-dated chart (where Views is No. 1 for a third week) will be posted in full to Billboard’s websites on Tuesday, May 24. Views is the first album to spend three consecutive weeks at No. 1 since January, when Adele’s 25 wrapped a seven-week run atop the list (of its 10 total nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1). Views scored another stellar week with streaming services, as the album’s tracks earned 186.1 million streams. That’s up a big 32 percent compared to the previous week (140.8 million). The jump is owed to how the album became widely available to all streaming services on May 13, following two weeks of exclusivity with Apple Music. Views now owns the top three largest streaming weeks for an album: its debut frame (245.1 million streams for its tracks), its third week (186.1 million) and its second week (140.8 million). In fourth and fifth place on that list are the debut weeks of of Beyonce’s Lemonade (115.2 million streams) and Justin Bieber’s Purpose (100.4 million). After only three weeks, Views has accumulated 572 million streams for its tracks. Speaking of Lemonade, the album stays put at No. 2 for another week, tallying 128,000 units for the week (down 37 percent), with another 92,000 copies sold (down 40 percent). Lemonade was the week’s best selling album, and ranks at No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart. Coming in at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 is Meghan Trainor’s second full-length album, Thank You, launching with 107,000 units (84,000 in pure album sales). The set follows her Title debut, which bowed at No. 1 in January of 2015 with 238,000 units and 195,000 copies sold. The new album was led by the single “No,” which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and marked the singer/songwriter’s fourth top 10-charting hit. The album’s second single, “Me Too,” is gaining steam on top 40 radio, and may debut on the new Pop Songs airplay chart dated June 4. Thank You is Trainor’s third top 15-charting effort, following her Title EP (which peaked at No. 15 in September of 2014) and the full-length Title. Rock band Pierce the Veil claims its highest charting album ever, and best sales week yet, as Misadventures bows at No. 4 with 54,000 units (50,000 in traditional album sales). The group’s previous largest week came when its last album, 2012’s Collide With the Sky, launched at No. 12 with 27,000 sold. Rihanna’s Anti climbs 7-5 with just over 44,000 units (down 8 percent), Keith Urban’s Ripcord slips 4-6 with 44,000 units (down 59 percent) and Prince’s The Very Best of Prince falls 5-7 with 42,000 units (down 46 percent). Chance the Rapper’s Coloring Book makes a sizzling streaming-only debut, as the album bows at No. 8 with 38,000 units. The independently released set’s tracks generated 57.3 million streams. Coloring Book was released on May 13, exclusively via the Apple Music streaming service, and marks the first album to chart on the Billboard 200 solely from streams. The set will remain exclusive to Apple Music until May 27, with it becomes available to other streaming services. There are no announced plans to release the album for sale. It’s worth noting that while Coloring Book is the first album to chart on the list entirely from streams, Kanye West’s The Life of deleted’s units are almost entirely driven by streams. The album is currently in its seventh week on the list, and in the latest tracking week, 99.93 percent of its units (21,000) were generated by streams. The other .07 percent were album sales. The set sold a handful of copies in the latest tracking frame, and hasn’t sold more than 1,000 copies in a week since its second chart week. Radiohead’s A Moon Shaped Pool descends 3-9 in its second week, earning 34,000 units (down 81 percent).
Jennifer Nettles’ second album, Playing With Fire, lights up at No. 10, debuting with 33,000 units (31,000 in pure album sales). The singer’s first solo effort, That Girl, debuted and peaked at No. 5 in 2014 with 54,000 sold in its first week. Of course, Nettles is also part of the country act Sugarland, which has tallied six charting albums -- four of which reached the top 10. And, of those top 10 sets, three hit No. 1: Love on the Inside, Live on the Inside, and The Incredible Machine.

Kanye has "99.93%" streaming, huh? It's hilarious that the purchase exclusivity backfired so hard that it made Billboard go way deeper into significant figures than usual.
(Yes, I know Kanye intends for streaming as the future, but in this case more is less, as the small raw sales makes the album look like its got low commitment from fans)

www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/7386050/sia-this-is-acting-billboard-200-chart-movesBillboard 200 Chart Moves: Sia's 'This Is Acting' Returns to Top 40 Thanks to Hit 'Cheap Thrills'5/27/2016 by Keith Caulfield Meanwhile, iTunes spurs gains for Beyonce and Taylor Swift, while new artists Kiiara and Grace continue to climb up the chart. On the most recent Billboard 200 albums chart (dated June 4), Drake’s Views held at No. 1 for a third straight week, while the top 10 welcomed new albums from Meghan Trainor, Pierce the Veil, Chance the Rapper and Jennifer Nettles. The Billboard 200 chart ranks the week’s most popular albums based on their overall consumption. That overall unit figure combines pure album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Now, let’s take a closer look at some of the action on the latest Billboard 200 chart: — Sia, This Is Acting - No. 28 — As the album’s “Cheap Thrills” single collects new fans and motors up the airplay charts, This Is Acting returns to the top 40, rising 47-28 with a 28 percent gain in units (rising to 15,000 for the week). “Cheap Thrills,” which features Sean Paul, earned 20.4 million in airplay audience in the week ending May 22, and is on the verge of debuting on the Radio Songs chart. Meanwhile, the single rises 38-34 on the Billboard Hot 100. — Taylor Swift, 1989 - No. 26 — Sale pricing and promotion in the iTunes Store kicks Taylor Swift’s 1989 back up the Billboard 200 chart, as it jumps 52-26 with 16,000 equivalent units earned in the week ending May 19 (up 44 percent) according to Nielsen Music. The set was up 83 percent in sales (rising to 11,000 copies sold) and vaulted back onto the Digital Albums chart at No. 11 with 8,000 downloads sold (up 212 percent). The set was priced at $7.99 and featured in Pop Hits promotion. — Beyonce, 4 - No. 111 — The same iTunes sale that aids Swift (above) also helps Beyonce, as her 4 album climbs 194-111 with a 58 percent sales increase. The 4 album celebrates its five year anniversary on June 28. — Kiiara, Low Kii Savage - No. 153 — The bulk of the album’s (165-153) total units are owed to SEA, where the track “Gold” is continues to build steam (4.4 million on-demand streams earned in the latest tracking week). For the week, 73 percent of the EP’s units were SEA. — Grace, Memo (EP) - No. 163 — The EP climbs 196-163 in its second chart week, and tallies a 16 percent unit gain (4,000 total units for the week), thanks to the growing popularity of its song “You Don’t Own Me,” featuring G-Eazy. It sold 26,000 downloads in the latest tracking week — its third straight weekly sales gain.
