This is one awesome album. Everything is so country.
"Can't Turn You Down" reminds me of an old school John Michael Montgomery song. Could surely see that being a single, along with "Dirt On My Boots". "All Time High" is tired lyrically but extremely catchy and full of violins/steel, which I love. Cowboy Hat" is a complete earworm, "Paycheck" sounds like a huge smash along with "Night Shift". "Out of Style" is a great way to start the album, love that beat. "She Ain't In It" is George Strait-esque. The title track is amazing as well.
Lucky Tonight and Heartache on the Dance Floor are probably near the bottom of my list but I still enjoy them.
Could go lots of different ways for the singles. Really don't see one song excluding maybe Out Of Style that wouldn't get good radio play. For the 2nd single I'd go with either Cowboy Hat, Night Shift, or Paycheck. I think it's gonna be one of Night Shift or Heartache on the Dance Floor.

This album is exactly what I expected...awesome. Pardi didn't let down at all. I really hope this catapults him into solid B-list, or even A-list status. This kind of music deserves to be on the radio. Here's my guesses on the singles
2. Cowboy Hat: this screams hit to me, and would keep momentum going with tempo
3. Heartache on the Dance Floor: this one is insanely catch, with tempo too. Would be good for early 2017
4. She Ain't In It: they have to give this a shot at radio, and if the previous two songs get him Top 10, they could afford to take risk.
Having said that, I LOVE Paycheck for some reason, it's very catchy (maybe because today is Friday, it's sunny out, and I got paid today too LOL). It could also be a single
Honestly, they can't go wrong here, he makes every song so relatable and undeniably "country". The only song I didn't care for was "Lucky Tonight", which seems to be consensus with most reviews I've read.
I really hope Pardi, Chris Janson, and William Michael Morgan can really break out and become stars

I think Paycheck, Heartache on the Dance Floor, Night Shift, and Can't Turn You Down are all hits. Cowboy Hat might turn people off with the lyrics, though it's insanely catchy.

In the words of Jordan Rager on Twitter "By God Jon Pardi i just dropped some damn country music on y'all today." This is by far my favorite album of 2016 so far. "Cowboy Hat", "Night Shift", and "Paycheck" would be huge hits in my opinion. That guitar solo at the end of "Night Shift" ROCKS. I could just listen to that solo on repeat. Really hoping "Night Shift" is the next single. I would be ecstatic. "She Ain't In It" like others have said is an absolute gem. Something slower for single number 3 would be awesome but I think they should go with tempo next to keep his momentum going.

This is definitely my favorite album of the year so far. True, genuine fun country songs that don't have to settle for the same schlock we constantly get fed over and over again. Songs like "Head Over Boots", "Cowboy Hat" and "Heartache On The Dance Floor" show that not every uptempo song needs to be about dirt roads and trucks. "She Ain't In It" is probably my favorite song of the year so far. It really reminds me of "Suffer In Peace" from last year, a song that just makes me stand in my tracks because I'm in awe of how good the song is.
My picks for singles:
1. Head Over Boots
2. Cowboy Hat
3. Heartache On The Dance Floor
Keep the good tempos coming to build up some momentum this era. He struck gold with "Head Over Boots", and I don't want to see him waste his potential by releasing something riskier.

This is the kind of music Dustin Lynch should be making. Luke Bryan's first album was similar to Pardi's stuff too. Thank god for this guy. Can't stop listening.

Man this album is excellent top to bottom. His debut may have been slightly deeper (less filler at least), but this is still an outstanding record. The album samples lots of different styles, but the fiddle and pedal steel is prominent and glorious throughout. Unless William Michael Morgan gets to release a full length album this year, I'd say this will be my favorite of 2016. She Ain't In It is just fantastic, probably the best thing he's recorded to date (and Missin' You Crazy was my favorite song of 2012). I doubt he can release it as a single, but there's plenty of other great choices here. I'd probably go with Heartache On the Dance Floor next, then Can't Turn You Down after that. Cowboy Hat and California Sunrise would work good too, or even Night Shift. I just hope they don't screw up the single choices like they did on his last album (in which case they would go with Dirt On My Boots and All Time High). Here's how I'd rank the songs:

California Sunrise
Can't Turn You Down
Heartache On The Dance Floor (the melody is more contemporary then I usually like, but this is insanely catchy and a big hit waiting to happen)
Cowboy Hat (just love the melody, even if it is just a country version of T-Shirt)

Dirt On My Boots (catchy to be sure, but way too contemporary and bro inspired for my tastes)
All Time High
Paycheck (I'm surprised so many want to see this as a single, it strikes me as pure filler and I don't really care for the melody)

His voice improved a lot from his debut album. There's no way he could sing All Time High 3 years ago. Kinda hearing a little bit of Troy Gentry. Anyone else?

Early thoughts from both sales and reviewers (internet and in person) would lead me to push for "Cowboy Hat" next. I very much would approve of this. The only thing that makes me hesitant and I'm saying this because I know this was brought up either in this thread or the Listening Party but "Cowboy Hat" is basically a country-er version of "T-Shirt" except the girl in Pardi's is obviously wearing the guy's cowboy hat and in Rhett's the girl is wearing the guy's t-shirt. "Night Shift" would be awesome. I actually work the night shift but only for a few more days as I'm starting a new job, so I was excited for that song. Turns out the song isn't actually about working the night shift haha but I obviously still enjoy the song. "Paycheck" would be good too. The only thing I don't like about "Paycheck" is the lack of country instruments. It's very guitar driven but it still sounds way more country than many things you hear on the radio. The only song I wouldn't want is "Heartache on the Dance Floor". But I feel like one of the four songs I mentioned will be the next single. |

If I haven't said it yet...Fantastic album! Perfect mix of Old School meets the new. I do hope they pick the right singles this time though. Last album cycle he lost a ton of momentum right after Up All Night. I see Cowboy Hat, Night Shift, Heartache on The Dancefloor, Can't Turn You Down, She Ain't in It, Lucky Tonight, and California Sunrise all being great choices for a potential release (yes, that's practically the entire record!). For the fan that may not like Heartache on the Dancefloor, I certainly understand why, however please view it as a necessary evil. All in all this record is one of my favorites so far this year. Hope Jon Pardi can continue to climb up the ladder!

While I'm generally more of a fan of stuff like FGL, this album is actually pretty good. I don't like his voice that much, but I like the music.

He desperately needed to knock it out of the park with the lead single following a couple flops from his debut album, and my goodness, "Head Over Boots" has been a grand slam. I've been listening to this album (and shamefully singing along, haha) all week on my way to and from work. Funny thing is, I was not that much into his last album so I was not even planning getting this one, but after having "Heads Over Boots" as one of my top tracks this year, I decided to give it a chance... Best decision!
Hopefully this becomes a great era for Jon.

Late to the party...
This is the best Mainstream album of the year (so far). Good use of country specific instrumentation which is a much needed breeze of fresh air to the genre.
Skipped no song and listened through the album in full. No single song turned me down. (Well, "Head Over Boots" is starting to get really boring).
My bets are that they will release "Dirt On My Boots" as the next single with "Lucky Tonight" following up.
