Why does 103.5 KTU in NYC suck?

I just read through the other thread, top 103 songs in 2005 for 103.5 KTU in NYC, and was amazed to see people felt the same way I did ------ that KTU sucks and doesn't support real dance music. All they play are old freestyle and disco songs, and they refuse to play more Trance, Euro, House, etc. Half the music they play is old music they play every single day! Their top 103 didn't surprise me at all.
Well the feeling is mutual. I've boycotted them since the late 90's. You know, back in 2000, I've contacted insiders in the radio industry to tell them how disgusted I was with KTU.
Here is a letter I wrote to one radio executive:
But as you guys know, 92.7 FM went out of business, and has become a Spanish station. 92.7 FM played really good Trance/Euro songs. I honestly think that as long as corporations own and run most of NYC radio, there will never be a decent radio station here. I believe in a theory that most New Yorkers aren't into dance music simply because they aren't exposed to it. If z100, KTU, etc only play rock, pop and hip hop, they really wouldn't know what they're missing out on with good dance music. DHT and Cascada shouldn't be the only dance songs people know about, there are so much more
Here is another letter I wrote to a radio producer in 2000, yet some of the things I mentioned are still true today about KTU:
I posted this on the internet as an open letter, and other people who agreed with me wanted to start our own NYC dance radio station, even if it were illegal. No one ever got around to it though....
What does everyone think about NYC getting a new dance music FM radio station? Is it too late, especially now that satellite radio is taking over, and iPods filled with dance songs?

Give me a break!
I said this once before, but I'll say it again. KTU is CRAP, they are a
dance-wannabe station. Their producers are confused...in their minds they think
like "we are a dance station, but we aren't really a dance station. Let's just
play some old played out freestyle song over and over again everyday to make
everyone happy."
KTU is like a 10 track CD on repeat mode, they never play the latest dance
songs. They play the same old songs they have over and over again, expecting
people to actually like it. I bet if I turn on KTU right now, I'd hear Snaps!
Rhythm is a Dancer or some other played out song. These idiots at KTU play it
everyday as if it's new a song! Are they retarded or something?
The only reason why they played Shannon "Give me tonight" it was an old cheesy
freestyle version which they overplayed so much before, and that gives them a
reason to play this version. If there were no previous mixes of this song, they
wouldn't have played it
I don't know about you guys, but I've boycotted 103.5 FM KTU already. Want a
better dance music station? Go for 92.7 FM....it's a Long Island station, so
you need a powerful FM tuner to catch it, especially if you are in Queens, NY.
They play MUCH better dance music (and a better selection) than
KTU.....although they do play a lot of alternative rock, but I don't mind. They
play tons of dance in the evenings..

In respose to all this talk about 103.5 FM WKTU in NY, well, the station is
more like a Top 10 radio station, not a Top 40 station. They barely play any
good songs. KTU sounds like a 10 track CD on repeat mode, repeating all the
time. I could swear that one day I heard songs like Eiffel 65's Blue played
once every hour....Don't they have a bigger selection of music so they don't
have to repeat the same songs all the time? Also, why must they play old music
all the time? Yes, it's good for a REAL dance music station to play oldies, or
"old school" dance music every now and then, but KTU plays it everyday as if
its new music!!
KTU played Alice Deejay eh? Since I don't listen to their cheesy station
because of their lack of support of REAL dance music, I haven't heard Alice
Deejay on it as yet. Do you guys know if the song is on their top 8 at 8? I
think they played Alice Deejay because they're starting to experiment with
dance music again, but yet, they still won't fully support it. They used to
experiment in the past with Euro-NRG songs, such as Playahitty's "Summer is
Magic", Ondina "Dance into the night", etc. They're still
experimenting......although their station is still crap! They are just playing
Alice Deejay because their ratings are low.....
I think i'm going to take Mr. Tony Santiago's advice and start my own radio
station, especially one of those "Low powered 1-mile radius" ones, but it'll
only transmit within Queens NY. Perhaps one day .......::sigh:::
