Ciara: "Here to perform her single, 'Whole Lotta Woman'." So "Whole Lotta Woman" confirmed as 2nd single? When Carson introduced her on The Voice, he said something along the lines of "performing her new single Medicine..." - so I wouldn't read too much into it yet. Hopefully we'll get official word this week or next.

Interested to see what 2018 brings us Kelly fans. The Voice starts on Feb 26. I would love a Grammy performance of sorts + SNL before then, single announcement any day now, and I presume we'll get a tour announce in conjunction with a performance on The Voice.

wondering when will we finally get information about second single
As i work in a record store, when i was playing Kelly's song, i think most people asking about is I Don't Think About You, 'who sings this?' then they will buy the record afterward, i would totally think this song will work out perfectly in Europe/Asia and everywhere else, Her vocal is the music, is the lyric that connect with people, the melody is so strong and the vocal is really delivering, which is completely different case compare to PBP, which is lyrical driven
i really looking forward to see IDTAY become single one day, it has to happen. I think she needs to break the general rule, like first 2 single have to be up-temple, because she is no longer the radio darling, then she needs to create the moment to make a song become THE MOMENT in TV
If she can't translate Medicine into a really good live, i think it better off as fan favorite or underrated song off the album something like that

Hopefully they'll look at the current sales of Medicine and WLOW before making the choice. With both of those having some pretty big performances, neither are really selling super well. For me, the single has to be either Heat or I Don't Think About You. Can't imaging anything else having as much potential to do well and also sell the album.

WLOW fits with current trend of #Timesup for woman power, but that needs a BIG video to support with it with HER Squad too i meant powerful people in it, if they can't make that happen i think we can forget about it, also the Men won't like it

I took a step back from this album for a while and then realized that when I want to listen to something catchy, Heat is the song I go to. It's really plain as day. It seems like Atlantic's initial instincts were for Heat to be 2nd and I think there's merit to that. It gives one of the best first impressions of any of the songs on the album. If they end up going with Medicine or even WLW that's cool, but Heat without a doubt sounds like the biggest smash here.

Yeah, the more I listen to the album, the more I both like "Medicine" and doubt its radio potential more and more, unless it was coming off at least one big hit. "Heat," "Meaning Of Life," and "Would You Call That Love" seem like the best radio bets. I don't see it for "I Don't Think About You" much either, but understand why people are drawn to it, and it could work down the line. Still, I think it'd be better to just perform it once on some big-ish show as a "promote the album" strategy, rather than giving it an actual single push.

She needs to release one of the ballads.... they are just much stronger than ANY of the uptempos. Don't You Pretend, Cruel, Meaning of Life, I Don't Think About You. PERIOD.
Heat, Medicine, Love So Soft.... they're so weak compared to what pop is serving. I don't understand the stubbornness in making any of those happen.

I've gotten the impression that she favors Medicine, and I would be inclined to trust her instincts if she had sold the hell out of it live, like she did Piece by Piece (and Because of You), but it doesn't seem like she has much of a connection to the song.
Also this is something I could not disagree with more. Pop is not serving anything strong at the moment. Whether or not any of these are strong enough to cut through the drowsy mumbles and tired rap songs dominating is another matter.

Definition of anecdotal, but fwiw when I was in the car with my mom and sister during the holidays, WYCTL came on and they both remarked, unprompted, how much they really like the song. My mother cannot stop saying how much like a black woman Kelly sounds on the album lol, but she made that remark regarding WYCTL in particular, which made me rethink my earlier reticence about it being a single this early in the era (b/c it is very pop/radio bait in a way that the rest of the album is not and I wouldn't want its success to deter her or Atlantic from a more soulful path in the future). Maybe it's more soulful than I gave it credit for? If they wanted a radio hit, WYCTL was the only obvious choice. But I think this era is more about balancing her desire to recenter her brand with extending the album's shelf life as much as possible, which made Heat or Medicine the two most optimal choices on paper. That said I'm with 14887fan rn that Didn't I deserves more attention. I'm trying to recall why I didn't think of it as single potential right away b/c it feels so overlooked to me now. Re: uptempos vs. ballads, I think all of the uptempos are great, just not necessarily on trend. With that said it would have been a nice switch-up if they went with a ballad next, especially for going into winter.

The problem is the album is full of songs that could be huge if pop radio weren't over Kelly and the streaming public didn't find her so completely uncool. Which makes every single move tricky until something hits. Because this should be a good problem to have, but with so much riding on very uncertain success, it actually makes choosing among strong single contenders really challenging.
Like, they could reasonably go: Heat-Would You Call That Love-Meaning Of Life (like us, pop!)
or
Meaning Of Life-Medicine-Go High (a song for everyone!)
or
I Don't Think About You-Medicine-Meaning Of Life (show off the album)
or
Whole Lotta Woman-Heat-Didn't I (this is my sound now and it's fucking fun)
So I just disregard anyone thinking they have THE ANSWER because...I don't think such a thing exists with this album and this artist at this stage in her career.

I am a little more hopeful because free streaming won't matter as much on the Hot 100 now that we are in 2018. She still does okay on iTunes, she will have The Voice as a promotional vehicle, and both she and Warner can hype the hell out of whatever the next single is at radio. "Medicine" hit me immediately, so for me it was the "obvious" second single choice, but I know others felt that way about other songs.

I could totally be wrong and it's probably like everything else I say based all on me but I can totally see "Didn't I" being the best choice to draw in the GP towards the album from a radio or streaming perspective but people like total shit and I can no longer determine what works like I use to because I don't follow trash.

I know a lot of folks here discount IDTAY but I love that song and can't help to think that it would be a huge hit. I would love Heat as the next single followed by IDTAY. I think it's incredibly relatable and her vocal on it is otherworldly.

I know I'm in the minority but I don't really like 'Medicine'. One of my least favorites on the album. Whatever she puts out though, I hope it gets another great video like 'Love So Soft' did.

Medicine was instant for me, probably the catchiest uptempo on the album in my mind. That said I think everything besides WYCTL and maybe Go High is a roll of the dice as far as contemporary radio is concerned.
I don't know if you would call this pessimism... It's not for me because I'm not at all sad about it... but I see Kelly as at that "15 years on pop radio" mark that singles the end of big chart success for most female singers. I kind of see anything that happens this era outside HAC as a bonus. And I don't care at all. LOL
I was really only hoping for the lead single to do well enough to launch the album and keep her on the radio during the holidays. Now that that's over...
She's going to be on the Voice all season so she'll be around promoting for that, and that will help sell some more albums. Plus she's going to go on tour... she has a deep enough bench of hits that the tour should sell well. And the album is fire. I'm looking forward to more performances of the songs, because we all know she kills live.
I said all that to say I don't actually give a crap what the next single is. I'll root for it to do well but as long as something is on HAC while she's on The Voice I'll be satisfied. I am officially a low mainentance fan at the moment. Heh.

I really hope she gets a spot to perform on the Grammys and performs whatever her second single may be.

I love AIEW as an album, but it's not a faved Mainly cause Kelly herself isn't even the biggest fan of this record, imo it felt very forced on her after My December Kinda why my heart and soul still lies with My December, it's like a more raw & rock version of Breakaway and more influenced by Kelly herself, since she was involved on every track's writing I still also admire Kelly's personality especially during that era, as she handled all the controversy so well and stayed true to herself Kinda why she is one of, if not, THE best personality in music industry

It has been said many times and many ways, but the three bonus tracks from that album — "Tip of My Tongue," "The Day We Fell Apart" and, to a lesser extent, "Can We Go Back" — are three of the best bonus tracks in the history of bonus tracks.

There’s a Meaning of Life banner (along with other older albums from P!nk, Niall Hiram, Harry Styles, Sam Smith) on the front page of iTunes this week - no idea why, but cool!
