Whether or not she ever recognized this about herself, Kelly is a brilliant natural comedian. So I think a lot of her appearance on The Voice will be a hoot.

Yikes. That’s an uncomfortable omission. Like...very uncomfortable. Maybe it’s because she’s on ‘The Voice’ and ABC isn’t interested in featuring their competition? IDK. Very weird. I doubt there’s animosity. She’s never been explicitly anti-Idol; she’s just been vocal about her contract being forced because she won.

What makes that Idol commercial seem so petty is how needless the omission was. The commercial would not have been awkward at all if they'd just not had the brief 'here are all the stars we made!' section. We don't need to be reminded who Idol's biggest successes are. So going out of their way to remind us, while blatantly avoiding the one who started it all, makes it stand out even more.
But I agree that it's probably not out of personal animosity. IIRC, none of the original executive producers for Idol are on board for the reboot? So there's not even one person at the top of the chain with a personal connection to the show's roots, and excluding Kelly from the promo was merely a robotic business decision; they just don't want to give any accidental promo away to a rival show. If the reboot had aired last season they likely would have left JHud out for the same reason. (And I wasn't expecting Kelly to appear on Idol this year for similar reasons - I can't imagine NBC allowing that.)

I’m actually more surprised about the Daughtry omission than kelly. Kelly’s makes a little sense because of the voice even if it’s a little pointless. So.. to all North American members here:
How REAL is The Voice?
I guess you know what I mean.. in case not: I even went to some auditions for fun and was only seen by producers who used my footage to make me look bad on TV and they made it look like an actual judge saw me and told me I was bad. It was so funny, but I signed their papers. Basically they could do with the tapes whatever they want.
Many reality singing competition shows start real and raw, including AI, but over time, producers take control in most of the cases and tbh AI has looked VERY VERY FAKE and producer-driven in the last years. This reboot looks fake as well and don't even get me started on Pitchy Perry as a judge. (It's funny seeing her mention Kelly's name - she does seem to acknowledge her talent, but it seems like she's not the biggest fan, cuz many labels wanted her to be like Kelly and Kelly ended up nailing 3 of her songs - including Wide Awake)
So what's the case with The Voice?
Do the judges really act like THEY want?

So what's the case with The Voice? Do the judges really act like THEY want? Only a few people make it to the blinds. So I’m pretty sure the producers are ok with the judges turning their chairs for any of the artists they have selected and invited for the blinds. I don’t think the judges have much say in who their advisers are either. I’m pretty sure they would have picked different people. |
