She’s really about to be back at the Oscars. While the movie’s reviews are good-not-great, it sounds like she might be a serious horse in the Best Actress race. Screened to a SAG nominating committee this week, and was met with a standing O.

The ultimate awards prediction site www.awardsdaily.com/2021/08/06/predictions-friday-best-actress-and-the-meteor-that-is-jennifer-hudson-as-aretha-franklin/Predictions Friday – Best Actress Driven by Jennifer Hudson as Aretha Franklin by Sasha Stone August 6, 2021 “My Best Actress pick for this year – number one with a bullet – has always been Jennifer Hudson. The reason being — her own story, that she was called upon by the goddess herself, Aretha Franklin — and above all, that voice. The movie would have to be really terrible to dampen the fact that Jennifer Hudson’s voice is somehow on par with Aretha Franklin’s.”

JHud and Carole King were on the cover of Variety recently. Maybe adding a little steam to the Oscar prospects since they were on the cover of a major Hollywood trade magazine and have "Here I Am" from the movie as a potential Best Original Song.

Movie was OK (and ended WAY too early in her career, LOL), but JHud was strong.

How is it a true biopic when the movie covers her life only up until 30? The movie touched on her being a civil rights activist, so showing her sing at Obama's inauguration would have been a more powerful ending. What about her weight struggles? Her marriage to Col. Taylor? Her father's (the pedophile pastor) injuries and death?

Great to see her potentially getting highly nominated/awarded for her Aretha.
I really hope she will release another album at some point.

I’m gonna hold off too.. hearing good things about Jennifer’s acting but not so much the movie itself. Sounds underwhelming.

Hudson did act well but it often felt like I was watching Effie’s Big Break rather than Aretha. It should’ve been an unknown lipping to Ree’s vocals.

Honestly I thought her performance in Dreamgirls was good but the only thing remarkable about it was her voice; I feel like the way the character's story sort of aligned with her own made the whole arc of her awards season too good for voters to pass up. This feels like it's lining up in a similar way and I'm curious to see if it yields the same results. Haven't seen the movie, but from the couple of things I've seen JHud in I just don't see great acting from her. She's capable and solid and if there's a musical component her voice is so incredible it elevates it, but idk, I'm always a bit surprised by the level of acting praise she gets.

I think people equate looking lost with wide-open eyes or the ability to cry or yell on cue as award-winning acting.

Hmmm just saw the movie, it was good not great. For something that ended too early in her career it wasn't worth 2 hours and besides I didn't learn anything new. The movie made the genius miniseries look epic (and I'm not crazy about the miniseries)

I would go see her live if she took Aretha’s music and the RESPECT soundtrack on tour. She needs to make that happen.

Coming from someone who was/is in acting her acting is honestly damn good she definitely shines in musical roles but she does damn well in non-musical roles also.

Coming from someone who was in plays from 7th - 12th grade and watches a lot of movies, Jennifer Hudson is a mediocre actress. Good, young singer tho!

Lee baby you wrong tho Cute response, but unfortunately, facts are facts. That Oscar win was the result of a highly effective campaign, nothing more, nothing less. JHud is loud and dramatic, so she has promise, at least! dbhmr, as someone who stans for the GOAT actress, what do you think?
