"One Dance" now has a combined 22 weeks at #1 in the US and the UK (9 in the US, 13 in the UK) - the record, unless I'm missing something, is 23 - for "Everything I Do (I Do it For You)" (7 in the US, 16 in the UK).

Isn't UK chart moving really fast? How many songs have passed the 10 week mark atop since the day one?

One Dance is like Uptown Funk of UK chart.. Still don't understand its attraction at all.. It sounds like a short demo rather than a complete song, and it's just a little catchy and not catchy enough. The piano sounds mechanical and the sample cheesy and lazy just snapped right on. Production-wise it's very cheap and the lyrics and his performance are both really bland. Too Good is a much better song imo and I'm glad it's climbing the chart.

I've always found the UK singles chart so fascinating.

So putting aside that Locked Away anomaly last year, I think we have the lowest #1 seller, lowest #2 seller, lowest #3 seller, and lowest #4 seller since 2006. Sad.

Yeah, but you have to look at the other side of it - the continued proliferation of streaming, which will probably be a much better business model for the industry long-term.

The #1 race is about to get very exciting soon, with Bruno, Katy, Britney, and Sia potentially all competing for it at the same time.

Isn't UK chart moving really fast? How many songs have passed the 10 week mark atop since the day one? The UK chart used to move REALLY fast, yes. But it moved slower after downloads were included (although record companies did organise themselves to get as many #1s as possible so if you look at only the #1s and not the rest of the chart it seems faster than it really was in the download age), and now that streaming has been included, it moves even slower. It seems to move at a similar pace to the Hot 100 now. :(

I dont see Britney will take over #1. She is done. It's possible She pulled off two debuts at the top mainly powered by very strong sales There is a chance it can happen if she tops iTunes And by the looks of it, it might have a simultaneous release of the song and it's video in one day Plus after the BBMA's, she gotten hype from people again. she should at the very least be able to debut very high.

Hopefully that won't be the case though, I don't want a Pretty Girls v2...something closer to Hold It Against Me though, and then we're talking big money. Though it probably won't last long either even if it does get a high debut. Britney's peak days are definitely over :(

Plus she also has G-Eazy on the song, should give it a good boost. Besides if Fergie can debut in the top 40, Britney can probably debut within the top 20.

The Britney thing all depends on the song itself. Promo is definitely needed but it can't be relied on alone.
The number of times we talk about an artist as having a surefire #1 with their next single, it never seems to correlate with reality. I mean, nobody was saying months in advance that Zayn and Justin Timberlake would be guaranteed #1 debuts, and yet it happened. Meanwhile people talked about Ariana Grande and the last Britney single Pretty Girls as being #1 guaranteed and both underperformed.

Personally I had a feeling the song would be huge when I first watched the video on YouTube the day it came out.

Katy and Bruno are both guaranteed #1's with their leads unless their songs totally suck, or one of them blocks the other. Britney only has a shot if the song quality is great.

I would like someone to collect the receipts from past threads for everytime somebody said a song they'd never heard yet was a guaranteed #1.

There's so many other possibilities too: Gaga, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Lorde, Pink...
What about Taylor Swift? She's released an album every two years since her debut, so she's due now again. Unless it's been confirmed she won't release one this year?

I'm hoping she waits a while.

The singles from 1989 lasted a lot longer than past Swift albums in terms of mainstream success, so yeah this era lasted longer and I'd anticipate her having a longer delay before her next release.

And Brunof has been number one with his debut singles for the last 2 albums have all been number plus his return with uptown funk have all been number one source it's more likely than not that those two are pretty good bets.
