I've said before that WATZ's playlist is nothing short of schizophrenic. But just to give you an example of that, here are some of the ones they still play, or used to play, regularly:
* "Hillbillies" by Hot Apple Pie
* "Good to Go" by John Corbett (that one's showed up a LOT this past year; seems to be a favorite of their new afternoon guy)
* "She Thinks That She'll Marry" by Judy Rodman
* "Shame About That" by Sara Evans
* "My Kind of Music" by Ray Scott
* "Picture" by Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow
* "Billy's Got His Beer Goggles On" by Neal McCoy
* "Hillbilly Shoes" and "Daddy Won't Sell the Farm" by Montgomery Gentry
* "My Give a Damn's Busted" by Joe Diffie (yes, they played his version almost as much as they did Jo Dee's)
* "Gotta Have You" by Eddie Rabbitt (they've been spinning this a lot in the past few months; Shazam didn't even recognize it!)
* "Someday Soon" by Suzy Bogguss
* "It's Hard to Kiss the Lips at Night..." by the Notorious Cherry Bombs (I remember one time when they accidentally played the uncensored version and turned it off once they realized what happened)
* "What It Ain't" by Josh Turner
* "Bob That Head" by Rascal Flatts
* "Still a Little Chicken Left on That Bone" by Craig Morgan
* "Brown Chicken Brown Cow" by Trace Adkins (their now-former afternoon guy used to use one of these three as a rimshot of sorts after telling a funny story he found in the news)
* "Play, Ruby, Play" by Clinton Gregory (a favorite of their night guy in 2005)
* "Barbed Wire and Roses" by Pinmonkey (<3)
* "Burnin' the Roadhouse Down" by Steve Wariner
* "Five O'Clock 500" by Alabama (yep, another album cut; this used to be their occasional leadoff to drive time)
* "8th of November" by Big & Rich (just heard it a couple months ago)
They must've had a copy of Classic Ray Stevens on hand, because I remember them playing the album cuts "All American Two Week Summer Vacation" and "The Bricklayer's Song" a few times.
When WWTH still had actual DJs early in its life (2005-06), they loved:
* "Men Don't Change" and "Love's Got an Attitude" by Amy Dalley
* "Love on the Loose, Heart on the Run" by McBride & the Ride
* "Outbound Plane" by Suzy Bogguss
* "Love Is Stronger Than Pride" and "What Do I Know" by Ricochet (they played all of Ricochet's charted singles from "What Do I Know" to "Blink of an Eye", plus "Seven Bridges Road", when the band performed a concert in 2006)
When I was about 4 to 8, I remember hearing these songs regularly on WKJC:
* "Whatever Happened to Randolph Scott" by the Statler Brothers
* "Power Tools" by Ray Stevens
* "Last Date" by Floyd Cramer
* "Arlene" by Marty Stuart
* "Bonnie Jean (Little Sister)" by David Lynn Jones (this one still shows up occasionally)
* "There's a Tear in My Beer" by Hank Williams, Jr. with Hank Williams
* "New Kid in Town" by Suzy Bogguss
Around 2005, WKJC was crazy for:
* "November" by Emerson Drive (actually made their Top 5 at 5 on Friday night, and it remains to date their biggest aberration by far)
* "It's Hard to Kiss the Lips at Night..." by the Notorious Cherry Bombs
* "Dixie Rose Deluxe's Honky-Tonk, Feed Store, Gun Shop, Used Car, Beer, Bait, BBQ, Barbershop, Laundromat" by Trent Willmon
* "I Love NASCAR" by Cledus T. Judd
* "Hillbillies" by Hot Apple Pie (partly because my sister kept begging their PD/morning guy to add it after hearing it so many times on WATZ)
Currently, WKJC loves to play:
* "Work Song" by Corbin/Hanner (every Monday since I was in my teens)
* "God Made Girls" by RaeLynn (WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYY)
* "How Do You Milk a Cow" by Cledus T. Judd
And they used to open up their farm show with an album cut, "Too Wet to Plow" by Dusty Drake.
WBMI, the classic country station out of West Branch, likes some of the following:
* "This Ain't My First Rodeo" by Vern Gosdin
* "Arlene" by Marty Stuart
* "Let Me Be There" and "If You Love Me (Let Me Know)" by Olivia Newton-John
* "Reuben James" by Kenny Rogers and the First Edition
* "Hillbillies" by Hot Apple Pie
* "Good to Go" by John Corbett (that one's showed up a LOT this past year; seems to be a favorite of their new afternoon guy)
