The occasional lengthy number one is cool but it gets dull when the average is 5-6 weeks. It's also boring when the same songs being played in September were the same ones being played in May. It was always more exciting to me when more songs and artists had a shot at number one, as opposed to now when a song reaches the top you know it's likely going to be there for awhile and no other song in the top ten has a chance. You can only thank streaming (mostly) for this. Look at Watch Me, it's still top 20 on YouTube.

Yeah, digital sales sped up the chart because there would only be so much time a song could spend at the top. At some point, sales drop due to there being only so many people left in the market who haven't bought the song. With streaming, people can just keep listening to the same song for weeks on end.

To counter this (even though I prefer a faster chart turn around), is that digital sales measure how much interest is in the song (thus the one click buy), it doesn't measure how much the audience likes the song like streaming + radio does. Someone buys a songs on ITunes and we have no idea how many times they played it (which streaming + radio tracks) or how large of an audience hears the song (which radio attempts to gather). I think streaming is a more accurate measure than sales of determining what is the biggest song of the week. I would love to see one day how many times a person is playing the song once they buy it and incorporate it into the Hot 100. I know it's possible with ITunes but I'm not sure for the other outlets.

That isn't a counter in that icefire9 didn't say otherwise to your point. You are making separate points. icefire9 was saying there is more longevity on the charts because streaming has led to songs hanging around. That in and of itself is true in that streaming has shown people listen to popular songs for a long time. That doesn't mean icefire9 does or doesn't like streaming, and in that post icefire9 certainly didn't make a claim as to whether streaming measures popularity or not.

Cold Water is so generic-sounding.. yet it takes 2-3 times lead on iTunes. Make Me... is such a good song, yet it fades out quickly and cannot even debut top 20

Predictions: Rank | Song | Sales | Airplay | Streams | Points | 1 | Cheap Thrills | 115 | 145 | 13.0 | 38,100 | 2 | One Dance | 55 | 155 | 17.0 | 35,800 | 3 | This is What You Came For | 65 | 120 | 18.0 | 34,200 | 4 | Can't Stop The Feeling | 85 | 145 | 10.5 | 32,700 | 5 | Don't Let Me Down | 45 | 120 | 14.5 | 29,100 | 6/7 | Ride | 55 | 105 | 11.5 | 26,200 | 6/7 | Needed Me | 40 | 80 | 16.5 | 26,200 | 8/9 | Panda | 25 | 35 | 19.5 | 22,500 | 8/9 | Don't Mind | 40 | 85 | 11.5 | 22,500 | 10/11 | Send My Love | 50 | 90 | 8.5 | 21,600 | 10/11 | Rise | 135 | 15 | 6.0 | 21,500 |
* Finally a new #1 and much deserved for Cheap Thrills. * Rest of the Top-5 also looks pretty set....TIWYCF should move up to #3 with a great chance at #2 next week. * However, in the lower half there are some close battles. Ride and NM look to continue their close rivalry, while Panda which has been free-falling recently might slip below Don't Mind. * It would be curious to see where Rise debuts. ATM it looks to debut at #10 or #11, but if it can get 7-8M streams (which is not impossible), it might debut as high as #8.

Haaaaaaaaaaaaate "Rise" and don't want it to debut in the Top 10, but I suppose the only silver lining is that a hearty debut would push Taylor Swift's buttons, so I'd be all for that.

Looking at the streams and sales of "Cold Water", it looks like this song may be primed for a Top 10 debut next week if not #1.

Supposedly the new iPhone is coming out the week of September 12th. Maybe she'll release her song to coincide with that or the event announcing it, didn't Drake do something like that?

Looking at the streams and sales of "Cold Water", it looks like this song may be primed for a Top 10 debut next week if not #1. If not #1? How so? We aren't even 3 days into the sales week and "Cheap Thrills" is already getting 75% of the sales of "Cold Water." Depends on how much it was able to sell in those first few days and how well its streaming holds up. Currently, its ahead of CT on Spotify. Airplay may be the saving grace to keep CT on top. It's a bit too early to make a precise prediction, but it's going to be a nice battle between the two for the week.

I know streaming accounts for more compared to airplay and sales, but what is the ratio exactly? Anyone know?
