are all dance-friendly enough to be seeing significant action at U.S. dance radio. I suspect it's been a while since the last time that feat occurred. ;)

Nice trend this year. The biggest shock to me is that Hip Hop, which I've hated since the gangstas took over in '93, is returning to it's dance roots. Ciara, Missy, Outkast, Black Eyed Peas, Neptunes stuff case in point. I never thought it would happen, but glad it did!

I may not *love* Ciara's music, but some of it is great to dance to. And some pretty good mixes have been done. Missy Elliot occasionally does dance songs, but even her hardcore hip hop and rap songs have phat beats and hot basslines which are characteristic of some dance songs. The Neptunes have been tearing it up these last few years also. Last year's Nina Sky and Ciara records have been huge in their main versions. Remixes have been done too, but in their pure forms, they are still good. I see this type of music being in for some time. At least till the end of the summer.

And another one is headed up the Hot 100 at lightning speed -- Rihanna "Pon De Replay".

It's only a matter of days until the Missy Elliot gets added.

Why has "Lose Control" been so hard pressed to be added to many playlists? (at least around NYC?) It's such a hot track, just as good as Missy's other songs, and finally her genre (along with Ciara and others) is finally starting to become "in" with many people.
BTW, LOVING THIS SONG!

The CHR/Rhythmic stations that are mostly hip hop and rap have already added this. The dance station still has not added this yet. They are a little more selective about what songs they add to their playlist.

I wouldn't mind a "Lose Control" remix. Actually, personally, I need one 'cause this song burned on me the first day I listened to it.

There is a thread containing them here at Pulse.

There are songs you can dance to, but they do not contain any dance elements... maybe the Black Eye Peas and that's pushing it. BUt that song is so hideous, I'd rather not associate it with dance. If you guys think that Dance Music proper will make a comeback based on these songs, you guys are mistaken. All of these songs are nothing more than hip hop, with the exception of "Hazel Eyes", which a pop/rock song. The Rihanna song has to be one of the worse songs of the year.

I think "Don't Cha" and "Pon De Replay" are fun, but far from the pure dance music that hit the charts again a few years back, but most notably in the mid-90's.

You have been listening to hip hop. How exactly is "Don't Cha" a dance song? (I'm not talking about the club mixes). It's a hip hop song, plain and simple. It even has Busta Rhymes for Pete's sakes.

Then what about the "he raps-she sings" song from the 90's like the Black Box, Snap!, La Bouche, Le Click, Captain Hollywood Project stuff? So that's hip hop too? This is so silly! Are you seriously comparing the hip hop song "Don't Cha" with Snap!, Culture Beat, etc.?? Are you seriously telling me that "Don't Cha" falls into that category? The Snap!, Culture Beat, La Bouche, etc. songs are dance songs that happen to have rap verses.... NOT rap/hip hop beats. I'm not going to continue this silly arguement. You guys are right, the entire Top 10 is full of dance songs. Dance music is back America!

Back In The Day, Hip Hop BEGAN as dance music, so I suppose that some hip hop IS dance music. "Rappers Delight" (often credited as the first hip hop song) was just a disco song with raps on it. "Planet Rock" and the breakdance craze continued the trend. It wasn't until the 90's that Hip Hop lost it's dance roots and went gangsta. It is beginning to return to it's roots with songs like "Lose Control" by Missy Elliott, and perhaps (since some want to call it hip hop) "Don't Cha" by PCD's & Nina Sky's "Move Ya Body."
