I just happened to realize this, but there are 4 EDM/Dance songs in the Hot 100 top 10. It seems to be quite a good year for EDM songs! :)

As EDM stands for Eletronic Dance Music, isn't a little redundant to say EDM/Dance? Honest question, not trying to be snarky.

Is there actually anyway to know the sales, streams, etc. for a song on the Hot 100? And why do I feel that the Kworb's airplay AI is different to Radio Songs?

Is there actually anyway to know the sales, streams, etc. for a song on the Hot 100? And why do I feel that the Kworb's airplay AI is different to Radio Songs? Billboard uses Nielsen Music which uses very different calculations from Kworb, especially for airplay. The general rule of thumb is that Nielsen's airplay AI for each song is usually 75%-80% of Kworb's estimate.

Is there a reason why Don't Mind is falling so fast?

EDM is the main form of dance music right now in terms of popularity, but saying "EDM/Dance" is a way to highlight the main form but also leaving room for other types of dance music.

Neither song has really had any promotion or video though. Once that happens, there's a minute chance that one of the songs may crack the Top 10. Both "Controlla" and "Too Good" should make the year-end list regardless.

And I agree they would make the top 10 with a music video, but I don't think they're going to get any tbh. Audio videos on Youtube at least would be nice, I think people are only allowed to put covers/remakes on Youtube atm and those don't count to the Hot 100.

Despite how well Views has been doing, Drake's rollout for the album has been terrible. He really needs to hire a new marketing team.

I suppose it’s cool to argue that chart statistics matter, but they only really impact some artists so much. All of his singles have gone Top 2 at his core radio formats. His album is basically the most relevant record released this year. A few extra coins for chart points/statistics is probably just, eh, to him.

Drake will still be Billboard's #1 artist, but he could be doing much better.

The Drake and Adele situations could just be a side effect of streaming/sales for monster albums. 25 didn't have streaming but sold nearly 8 million copies in 2 months, which doesn't leave a lot of room for growth or legs. The same for Views and its insane streaming numbers...how do you target a single to an audience that already sought the song out and had been playing it regularly for months? Granted there are things the marketing teams could have done better (timing of videos and live performances) but I think we'll see blockbuster albums having a huge first month or two then losing steam.

The Adele comparison is a good one. Both artists went on autopilot with their singles after the lead track. I don't really know the rationale. Perhaps there is a growing record label mindset that promoting singles is not really necessary anymore?

Perhaps there is a growing record label mindset that promoting singles is not really necessary anymore? I could see that being the case. We know how they felt about singles in the 90s...but if this does become a trend it will be weird to see huge, highly anticipated album eras essentially over (promotion and singles-wise) in 2-3 months. Giant bursts then quick flame-outs.

I think artists should just release a new song every three months and after a year release an album just to bank on it. I'm tired of artists releasing an album and after 2 songs they either have a feature on the next single which isn't the album version, or they release a whole new song all together. Making fans who still buy physical copies to either repurchase the new version or have to download that one song. Maroon 5 did it twice back to back albums. Katy Perry, Jennifer Lopez, etc. So either they need to bring physical singles back for us old schoolers or don't bother at all with full albums. It will keep more money in my pocket instead of theirs.

It's funny about 25 because it sold so much so fast and then it couldn't really sustain any kind of momentum. And it's like 8 million people bought 25 because they loved 21, not so much that they actually loved 25. It was more a "my mom loves Adele, I'll buy her this for Christmas." Which is ironic, because despite the monster sales, the album had no major impact really and might be forgotten altogether besides the lead single. If you guys didn't know the sales figures for 25, how successful would you say it was?

She has a current hit single with "Send My Love" so I am not sure why some of you keep claiming the album didn't impact after "Hello." It's also still top 10 on the Billboard 200, so it's not like the album has disappeared.
