^That really wouldn't count, as it's more than album sales determining the ranking on the multi-metric 200. Hence, why the Album Sales chart is the best continuation for tracking such information (and for historical comparisons).

Hence, why the Album Sales chart is the best continuation for tracking such information (and for historical comparisons). I agree that it's apples to oranges, but I think it's still necessary to point that distinction out since the way BB has it set up, the multimetric 200 is, by title at least, the same chart that was once album sales only. If you ask 'what's the lowest selling #1 in the history of the Billboard 200?' it's difficult to give a straight answer.

Streams for Drake actually dropped a lot if a 57% increase on album sales only translated to a 8% gain on SPS.
Good numbers for Frank Ocean, although personally I don't see the appeal.

For music briefs that I run in our newspaper, when I'm talking about peak positions, I write "Billboard's album sales chart." That way, it covers historical, as well as the current Album Sales chart. At some point you might want to acknowledge changing times though. As fewer and fewer albums are actually sold each week, it should become more and more clear that the most popular album in the country may not necessarily be the one that sold the most. With the rise streaming-only releases, those will clearly sell zero but will most likely register on the popularity chart (which is what the BB200 currently is and was historically as well) Side note: 'Views' is the current record holder for fewest sold in a week while occupying the #1 position at 15,684 on the 8/13 chart

Gary, an album is an album- taking information from each individual track and adding that info together (which is represented on the current 200-position chart) does not necessarily equate to an overall album's popularity, as some tracks may overwhelmingly fare better than others. But I get what it represents on Billboard 200 as it is now. When talking about historical info, we're nearing two years of the BB 200 since TEA and streaming entered the mix, and it's fitting to compare performance on the chart for titles that have charted on it in that time frame.
For anyone wanting to look at sales performance only, no matter the current state of sales, Album Sales and what the Billboard 200 (and all of its incarnations) was, pre-Dec. 2014, are the charts to look at. That should go without saying, but... :)
That is a decent showing for Lindsey Stirling- and there was worry that HITS didn't provide an estimate for her at first.

Yay Dolly gets another top 10 album!!! Would be awesome if she had been in the top 10 the same week as Barbra... Two female artists over 70 in the top 10 would have been quite a feat!

Depends on which top 200 you are talking about. On the BB200, Dolly Parton is not in the top 10. On the pure sale chart Dolly Parton is #6

Don't know yet. I would assume 11 or 12 since the top 10 article that came out Sunday did not list this album but it seems to be listed here on the SPS chart at #10
