This iconic smash was released July 28, 1979 and peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for one week and eventually reached platinum in sales. The song earned him his first Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. The video was also his first as a solo artist.
I can't think of a better song to kick-off his adult career. It's just awesome in every way.

I like it, but I much prefer "Rock With You" and "Off The Wall".

The video for this recently was Vevo certified for 100 million views. Pretty great for a song from the '70's!

If you held a gun to my head and asked me to pick Michael's greatest song, I'd probably pick this. Not sure why you'd have to hold a gun to my head to get that answer, but it's what I typed and I'm sticking to it.
Anyway! This song is just epic. That instrumental, his vocal, pure euphoria. If this song doesn't make you happy, if this song doesn't make you get that ass on the dancefloor, if this song doesn't have you trying to hit all the falsetto notes... well, you're just dead inside and no friend of mine.

The DRAMA! I live for it. This song is pretty epic though.

Best song from the Off the Wall era. Heard this song a lot as an old school cut on WGCI, V103, and 103.5's short-lived Jammin Oldies format in my market.
