If SYT becomes the official #2 song of the year, this would be the second time in 5 years the artist had missed out on back to back #1’s (JB in 2016-2017). If BL is the #3 song of the year, then it would also be the second time in 5 years where one artist occupies 2 positions in the top 3 of the year end. Don’t forget about Ed the following year, when Perfect fell short after SOY blocked Despacito in 2017. Honorable mention: Post had the #2 hit in 2019 (Sunflower) and 2020 (Circles). So based on this trend, Cold Heart will be #2 on the 2022 YE chart.

There's been a top ten single titled "Stay" every four years for the past decade. Rihanna's in 2013, Zedd's in 2017, and Laroi's in 2021.
All three also finished in the lower half of the YE top 20. (2021 hasn't been confirmed yet, but it'd require a massive upset for Laroi's Stay to do any better than #11)
I'm interested to see if the trend holds up in 2025, as unlikely as it is.

Adele entries with '30' album tracks
Billboard Global 200 Singles of This Week (December 4th, 2021)
#19 To Be Loved
#21 Cry Your Heart Out
#25 Hold On
All these positions numbers are the same numbers as the titles of her previous albums

In this case it would be the third time then, and if BL falls short to G4U or Mood then it would still be the third time in 5 years that one artist has 2 positions in the top 5 as Post Malone had Sunflower and Wow in 2019, as well as the Bieber domination in 2016.

I hate Perfect, worst hit song of the past 5 years IMO, but it's still charting in 2021 on recurrents. It has a crazy legacy

It has a crazy legacy I always thought the parallels between Thinking Out Loud & Perfect are interesting. TOL was release in late 2014, became the 2nd biggest hit of 2015. Perfect was released in late 2017, became the 2nd biggest hit of 2018. Both are slow paced ballads that peaked during the winter.

It has a crazy legacy What's even crazier is that the last 3 YE #2's (Perfect, Sunflower, and Circles) were still charting on recurrents as late as the 11/6 chart week. Maybe after Christmas when SYT goes recurrent could we get 4 YE #2's in a row on recurrents.

A coincidence from the fresh Year-End releases:
"All I Want For Christmas is You" of Mariah Carey's Year-End position for 2020 and 2021 is basically "Young, Dumb, & Broke" of Khalid's Year-End position for 2017 and 2018 but flipped (the former is #67 --> #78, the latter is #78 --> #67)

The bottom two songs on the 2021 YE (Drinkin’ Beer. Talkin’ God. Amen. and Todo De Ti) both debuted and exited the Hot 100 on the exact same weeks as each other (debuted 6/12/2021, exited 10/30/2021).

Between the Billboard Hot 100 and Canadian Hot 100 Year-End, both of their #86 features a different song from Drake's "Certified Lover Boy", with the US being "Knife Talk" (with 21 Savage and Project Pat) and Canada with "Fair Trade" (with Travis Scott)

Dua Lipa and The Weeknd are obviously next to each other on their big 2021 hits at #1 and #2 but as well as their minor hits Take My Breath at #89 and We’re Good at #90.

This year's #5 and #13 are Olivia Rodrigo songs that are stylized in lowercase ("good 4 u" and "déjà vu" respectively) While last year, it is occupied by 2 songs that are stylized in all uppercase with DaBaby ("ROCKSTAR" and feature on Jack Harlow's "WHAT'S POPPIN'")

Speaking of 34 + 35, here's some "comedic" #69 YE placements:
-Gimme That (06') -The Time Of My Life (08') -We Found Love (11') -Paradise (12') -Shower (14') -Natural (18') -I Like It (19') -Hard To Forget (2020)

Sicko Mode just above Fair Trade in the Global 200 2021 Year-End. Was it a "Fair Trade" for Drake not to get formally credited in the former to get Travis Scott featured in the latter?

The 2010s artist of the decade list is bookended by the artist with the most solo Top 10s (Drake was #1) and the artist with the most overall Top 10s (Paul McCartney was #100).

A couple of coincidences I just noticed in the Year-End 2021 Hot 100 Artist chart. Canadians are back to back to back, with Drake at #2, The Weeknd at #3 and Justin Bieber at #4. The other one is that Lil Baby is at #15, followed by Dababy at #16.

Post Malone and Travis Scotts first song on Billboard debuted at the same week, Middle of September 2015, Antidote and White Iverson. They both had hits with that song and then they disappeared for a few months, and everyone thought they both were 1 hit wonders and would never have a hit again.
Now we are in 2021, both of them are one biggest names in the urban community.
Both Post and Travis would break through again a few years later with Sicko Mode and Congratulations. Both of them released a few songs after Antidote and White Iverson but they did not chart well, so everyone thought that they were done.

Exactly half of the top ten, top twenty, and top fourty this week is Christmas songs. Perfectly balanced. (It's bound to become unbalanced again next week.)

Songs titled Family Affair reached #1 on the Hot 100 thirty years apart in late 1971 (Sly & the Family Stone) and in late 2001 (Mary J. Blige).

Both Usher and Ne-Yo had the same mentality in the end of 2014 into the winter and spring of 2015. Having songs about strippers that became hits, featuring Juicy J. She Knows and I Don't Mind.

Lorde's "Homemade Dynamite" remix flopped, peaking at #92 on Hot 100 in September 2017.
However the three artists featured were all new artists that ~exploded~ (pun intended) in popularity right after: Post Malone, SZA, and Khalid.
Post Malone released "Rockstar" the same week the remix was released. SZA earned her first lead top 10 five months after it was released with "All The Stars". Khalid earned his first lead top 10 hit a year after it was released with "Love Lies".
The rest of their careers are history.

All I Want For Christmas Is You bookended 2021 charting by being #1 on 1/2 and 12/25. Oddly enough, those are the only weeks that Save Your Tears did not chart in 2021. In addition, SYT is the first song in post-UGC era to log 52 weeks on the chart without a Christmas song being #1 during any week of its run. (The last song to do that was Sunflower, which left the chart after 53 weeks, just a few weeks before AIWFCIY went to #1 the first time.)
