Why bother? The song has been #1 for 9 weeks.
It should have been out 3 weeks ago.

The song still gets 30 million streams weekly. Ugh, this is going to push it to 40-50 million.

Lord help us its coming for the record It looks like this week the Closer and Starboy will be within 10k points. Closer should end with 11-13 weeks, no record. But GOAT can happen or Love Yourself record.

Maybe they will change their wording. Is 10% of the time rare? Do you only count songs that went to #1? Or do you count all songs to ever chart? If it's the latter, rare is correct. If former, maybe not. In the history of the Billboard charts, only 33 songs out of every song to ever chart has lasted 10 weeks at #1. Very rare!! Statistics are a fun thing, you can make them say anything you want. Another way on this same stat. Since 8/16/1992 chart when Boyz II Men spent the 1st of 13 weeks at #1, there have been 31 instances. This is the 1265th chart week since the first Boyz II Men #1. 366 weeks have been filled by just 31 songs or 29% of the time! It is still a good feat, but at some point, the word "rare" needs to be changed. After next week, if you look at the past year, 58% of the time, the #1 song has been a 10+ week #1. What was once "rare" is now actually occurring more than half of the time.

Go Closer! At least it's not like One Dance where the talk of music video never materialized during its #1 run

If Closer's music video is good, it will be hard for Starboy, 24K Magic and Don't Wanna Know to beat it. 12+ weeks will be possible.

If this kind of song had been around since the beginning of the year or so, it would've been Uptown Funk all over again in running away with the charts and easily getting Year-End #1. Mike is BAD, let's hope you're right... At the rate it's going it looks destined for Greatest of All Time, but it'll depend on how well it holds after it leaves the #1 spot.

Greatest chart performance of all time? Doubtful.
Can't see it spending 7 more weeks at #1 either but anythings possible. The video will help it for a week and a half then it'll go back to normal then start dropping.

No one's reply talking about it until it gets at least 13 weeks, which isn't insane. Also the music video is gonna be a pretty big bump on streaming. The thing The Weekend is barEly doing better on with a MV and audio. So it should help a bit more than a week.

I'm okay with Closer snatching One Dance as the longest #1 of 2016 but after that it needs to go.

It's a smart move for them. Drake could have done the same with One Dance and he would probably have stayed for a couple more weeks at #1. (But we got Cheap Thrills after One Dance so I'm not complaining).

Lord help us its coming for the record I think it'll still fall just short at 14-15 weeks (maybe even less) I think at that point the video hype will have worn off enough for either 24k Magic or a big debut to overtake it (yes I still maintain that Starboy's chances at #1 are dead now)

Im thinking a conservative prediction rn is 12 weeks. But if the MV comes out and it goes massive it could definitely threaten 15 weeks imo.

What is there to give a boost to the sales and streams of the current contender for #1s? "Closer" isn't eroding, and even more so those songs aren't gaining any ground except a little at radio. What are people seeing to make them think something would take over soon, regardless of the video now dropping?

What are people seeing to make them think something would take over soon, regardless of the video now dropping? My thoughts exactly. 24k Magic isn't close to peaking yet so that's I think that one has a chance at dethroning Closer. But it's really a hit or miss at best, I'd say. And even if it does happen, it won't be until December (maybe late November when it's coming close to catching up in points, provided it gets a decent boost from a TV show performance at that time). I do hope to see a new number one soon though (even though Closer is one of my favorite songs this year). Also, should it stay at #1 this week (I think there's practically no doubt it will), it'll tie One Dance for the longest reign in 2016.

I wish In The Name of Love did better
My long shot wishes are for Little Mix's Shout Out to My Ex and James Arthur's Say You Won't Let Go to breakthrough on the Hot 100. Little Mix is unlikely but I think Say You Won't Let Go is a strong song and has the appeal of Thinking Out Loud/Love Yourself. It's already charting on Spotify US so who knows maybe

I really don't see the music video to Closer doing really anything to its points outside of a spike for the release week when people check it out. It's already the #1 song on YouTube from the lyric video. All the video will do is either steal the views from that or simply not get very many views at all. The only thing that can come from the video is if it's a viral sensation (a la Call Me Maybe, Gangnam Style, Chandelier, etc), but based on their previous videos... nah, probably not.

Making a video meme-y could work too. That's what worked for "Hotline Bling".
